15th Region
#1
We are one week away from the official start of high school basketball.

Haven't seen any pre season rankings as of yet, but what are everyone's thoughts on who will be the favorites to win the 15th?
#2
I'm not informed enough to rank everyone, but Martin County looked like the best team this summer to me.
#3
Betsy Laynes Region to lose

You've been awfully quiet as of late, none of those transfers aside from Curry that you "heard about" actually make it to Betsy Layne?

Not sure who Mike is, but Floyd County superstar must not know anything about 15th region basketball.  I think its Martin County, Pikeville, Johnson Central...then everybody else.

Mike is Mike Howard, Betsy Layne's head coach. Floyd County Superstar has been hyping him up like he is the greatest coach ever and he keeps "hearing" how thanks to Mike being there, Betsy Layne is getting all kinds of players wanting to transfer to play for such a genius of a coach, but he's got strangely silent about that after school started.

Today is the day, October 15th. The official start of high school basketball. Now to March is my favorite time of year!

Solid list for the players. I think the team rankings aren’t that good at all but it’s preseason rankings for a reason and they will look very different at the end of the season like always. Why hasn’t anyone posted these rankings on social media apps like they usually do?

@Bobjames01 was wondering the same thing. I follow a lot of other pages from other areas that cover 14th region, and 16th and they've already released some rankings for the upcoming season. Haven't seen the first one when it comes to the 15th region.

I feel like the 15th will be extremely down this year. We know the favorites and I think they’re favored by so much that there’s just genuinely not as much overall interest. My thoughts on it at least.

I think there are some teams that are not names Martin, Johnson, Pikeville that could put together a run at it.

Seeing a lot of hype out of Belfry and Phelps. Lawrence has at least one kid that can play. What’s around him? Magoffin have anything? It does seem overall interest is down but I know I’m ready for it to get rolling.

@Ice61706 I am ready to get it going also!

Martin Co would have to be the favorite as of right now, then after that its basically wide open. 57th district will be a gauntlet as always, everyone is looking at Martin Co & Central, but don't sleep on Paintsville. Them & JC have a lot in common, both very young teams that mainly consist of sophomores, few juniors and seniors scattered but the main core for both teams will be there for 3 more seasons, and with the games they had last year, the rivalry will just be that more intense in the near future.

58th will be down, not really prohibitive favorite, Lawrence Co would probably be the team, Chandler Thompson is a great young coach, and they play to his identity as a coach, he really gets the best out of his players. Floyd Central lost a lot, returning Spriggs to lead the way was key, but losing the majority of your scoring will hurt them, Spriggs turned into a playmaking guard toward the middle/end of last season, he will have to carry a lot of the scoring load this season, as FC will be relying on a lot of young players. Betsy Layne also lost a lot especially with Andrew Kidd, they do return Pente & Parsons, great guard duo who can cause some problems matchup wise, but behind that they will be in the same boat as FC, big time youth movement up on the hill. Prestonsburg transitions to a new coach, lost a few players due to transfer, this will obviously be the Keathley show, but what kind of supporting cast will he have? Heard a rumor yesterday that Dalton Elliott may come out to play basketball, this would definitely be interesting considering the timing with the football schedule and how deep they go into the playoffs, maybe one of the Pburg folk on here could clarify, again that's just strictly rumor, don't know if it's entirely true.

Even tho Pikeville lost quite a bit, plus a few players to transfer, I'd say they'll still be the favorites to win the 59th, can't count out Valley tho especially a new head coach who will get the best out of his players. East Ridge also with a new coach, don't know a whole lot about their team, but maybe having a young coach is the boost they need.

60th will run through Pike Central, losing a 25ppg scorer in Rigdon hurts, and their #1 playmaker, but returning Jaden Stewart will be huge for them to lead the way. By the looks and sounds, Belfry may be a team that everyone needs to watch out for, they've also brought in a new coach and a few key players through transfer. Phelps will be an interesting team also, everything will go through Weddington who is a sophomore, hoping to see him play at some point this season.

Also have to think about how year 2 of the super region will go down? Year 1 seemed to be confusing to many, then the ran into the issue of logistics & time, especially if both boys & girls teams made it, and few had the issue of both playing at different locations on the same day, so that will be something the committee will have to figure out.

Heard and talked to a lot of people saying that the 15th will be down this year, idk if that to be true or not, but whether it is or isn't, lets get out and watch some games, and support these great young athletes! Can't wait.

Lawrence is gonna surprise people. Perry, Woods, and Fetherhoff are their  key returners. They got a transfer from Ohio that is really good. Kaden Johnson will be the other starter and they’ll be about 8 deep. No seniors will play meaningful minutes. Press and run like normal.

I've always enjoyed watching Lawrence Co since Chandler took over, sounds like nothing has changed over in Louisa!

As long as Chandler is coaching, Lawrence will be there at the end.

Crazy times at Valley close to the season. If the screenshots I read over here in 14th are true today.

Apparently, from whats circulating the current football coach at SV is actively searching for Taylor the new basketball coaches replacement who aint even been fired lol. Before he even started his season….

From the screenshots I have seen, the football coach is contacting people in other regions here for sure, asking for anything on Taylor to cause issues for him.

Stating that he is 1 and done at SV no matter how much he wins when he takes over as principal. The screenshots hint the losses in football season on basketball being a distraction the kids wanting to play basketball instead. Apparently some of his kids are also on the basketball team.

Looked up today Valley had a slow start at 0-6 in football in a bad 1A district. I think they only share like two kids according to the rosters Johnson and Bartley.

Anyway, the screenshots of the messages that are circulating said among a lot of other things that he (football coach) is the principal in waiting in a year or so and he is already looking for Taylor’s immediate replacement no matter what he wins. Valley has had 3 coaches in basketball in 3yrs so something is going on somewhere.

Feel bad for Taylor always worked hard and his kids played hard at LCC. I think he has good support from his players, community, and parents according to people I have talked with at Valley they looked to be on the way back this summer in basketball.

Wish we had got him two years ago but he didn’t come due to his mother’s age and distance we are from him what I was told.

Sucks if he left Letcher to be one and done at a place like SV that was such a storied basketball program. They might be moving in a football direction.

Mathew Taylor has revitalized that basketball program. If the powers that be and/or administration at SV try to run Taylor off then it shows where the priorities are. And it’s not the kids because the kids absolutely love him and hang on to every word and coaching advice he gives them. It’s too early to tell but from what I’ve seen and heard the 59th and the 15th could
be interesting. All I’m saying is that the distance between the bottom and the top are far shorter than before. Should make for some really entertaining basketball this season.

If that is true, then Taylor should just walk away now if he's going to be treated that way. I am sure John Meade would take that job in a second.
