Campbellsville 36 Danville 0

Danville gets running clock'd for the fourth time in the last 5 games.  They are shut out for the fourth straight game.

Ads start district play next week against Leslie County, which might be their last best chance to notch a win and break an 18-game losing streak.

At this point I believe Danville will have two consecutive winless seasons. Beyond that, I think it will be a very long time before Danville actually gets a win. This is perhaps the greatest collapse of a football program in the history of Kentucky. If there is another program that fell into disaster so quickly, I can't think of one.

The worst part of it all: this didn't have to happen.

I think the clock is starting to tick hard on a Danville/Boyle Co. merger. It's sad what Danville has become - both on the football field and even academically. It's a school in trouble. I think the success of the football team was the last thing keeping the school systems separate. I have a few family members who went to Danville and it just really is a shame for that school.

Could it be

2A Danville + 4A Boyle = 6A Boyleville

I'm not sure of the numbers, but Danville isn't super large. It might only kick the "new" system up to 5A. But I'm sure they'd handle themselves well.

Haha I'm figuring 5A too in all seriousness. Just making sure I still had my elementary math skills and fun with the name change.

I'd agree Danville's athletics and academics are struggling but people I've talked to in the county system want nothing to do with a merger, largely because it would pull down Boyle's state academic ranking.

This is important. Boyle has no desire to merge. There is no benefit. These are not two great programs merging. Boyle is great. Danville was great. It is fair to say Danville is a legendary program, but to me great implies current success.

In my opinion, the last hope for a merge that made everyone happy was 2017. Danville had a state title in football, pretty good academics, and great non-athletic extracurriculars including a speech and debate team that won all four state titles (Yes, you read that right. One of the few programs to ever do so. What is this program doing now? It is almost non-existent after being gutted around the same time as the football crisis began). When a merge happens, it will be to Danville's benefit, but against Boyle's wishes.

Danville has lost its identity. The speech & debate program from what I've seen has fallen off because the guy who led it retired and Danville made no attempt to replace him with someone of quality in the building. And we all know here what's happened to the football program.

Recent test scores showed that Danville High was a bottom 10 system in the state. I never thought I'd see the day where that would happen. It's a great illustration of how chaos in athletics can bleed into academics as I think the two go hand in hand. But your point at the end of a merger condition is spot-on. I don't think Danville is at risk of merging because its financially healthy but they need leadership that will take a hard look in the mirror and get to work. I think they've hit rock bottom now and with a new super/high school principal put in this past year we'll see what they do going into 2025-2026.

Most if not all, said above about the demise of Danville and a merge is true. I would think that buildings would play a huge role. BCHS was constructed around 1962-1963. Last I heard with the new school board policy of allowing out of district students in. The building is bursting at it seems. The new middle school which is 5-6 years old cost about 46,000,000. With the addition of the Bate students it would also be full. So, if the merge was to happen not sure where all the students would go. If a merge happened, I think the population at DCA would really increase.

I think DCA is a big wild card in the community that isn't discussed enough. Can Danville/Boyle really support three different schools? DCA's enrollment has steadily grown and their athletics are getting better. They also have football ambitions so that's going to be interesting to track in the years ahead.

I forgot you were still claiming good losses my fault. The moral victories. Pikeville is 2-0 with real wins and 5-0 with moral wins. Pretty good season so far.
