Ironton, OH at Pikeville 10/4

Ironton, OH at Pikeville. Thoughts?

I've got to go with one of the top 20 teams in Ohio in this one. They usually have a good line along with some D1 talent in skill positions. I hope that the Panthers can keep the game respectable.

I’ve watched Ironton play several times this season and they are explosive at nearly every position. On offense they have playmakers that are capable of scoring in any given play and the defense forces a lot of turnovers. If this was Pikeville 2 years ago I would give them a good chance but this year I don’t think the Panthers have enough to compete with Ironton.

Pikeville is banged up. I don’t know who will be able to play this week or if they will even try to play some of them because the Panthers have a bye week and then district play after this one. I think Ironton names a score and it will be ugly.

Ironton is solid across the board. Will be a tough game for the Panthers.

My dad went to Ironton High School so I've sat in the stands many a time. Needless to say the majority of their fans see Kentucky High School football as comical. I think most of them would be disappointed with less than a 40 point win and see this as little more than a scrimmage and an opportunity for JV playing time. Pikeville is not going to win this game but I sure hope they keep it close and administer a dose of humility to Ironton, Ohio.

I would love to see Pikeville pull off the upset. With A healthy 35, I think they could play keep away and potentially do so. But, with him not being able to handle the work load he has in the past (ie:20+ carries), I don’t think it will be the case. He will be busy as it is on the defensive side of the ball, as will the rest of the Pikeville defense. Ironton has had some good teams in the last couple of years, but I think this team is better than their two state championship teams. More well rounded and better upfront. I hope I am wrong and something crazy happens, but Irontons couch is a bit of a cut throat so I don’t see him pulling back on the reigns…

Calprep projects a 42-3 Ironton win. I hope that I'm wrong, but Pikeville does not have the line to compete with Ironton.
#11
2 things making it even tougher on Pikeville besides the injuries are Pikeville JV beat Ironton JV last year and Ironton lost their first game the other night, by 1 point I believe.
Depends on who plays for Pikeville if it's competitive or not IMO
Calpreps would predict Ironton to easily handle all mountain teams.

Would love to see Pikeville win but this one might get ugly

Ironton lost to a Canadian team by 1 point in a game that Calpreps rated a virtual toss-up. Ironton has easily exceeded the Calprep spread in every other game.

I don't think that it will matter who plays for Pikeville - they are going to take a beating. I do think the Panthers will score more than 3 points.

When was the last time Pikeville had a running clock put on them? Not saying it'll happen, but if Pikeville is as banged up as some are saying and Ironton is as good as they seem, then it's not out of the realm of possibility.

I’m gonna say 2017.

I know Belfry put a running clock on them in 2017.

I think LCA did too.

If Ironton puts running clock on Pikeville, then it will be because the Panthers will play aggressively to win, not to lose by a respectable margin.

Kudos to Pikeville for putting together such a difficult schedule. I will be surprised if they don't win the title again this year.

Ironton puts a running clock on the panther's in this one!

The mountain putty tats will need one of those magical nights from their out of the house and onto the field referees to even keep this respectable. Ironton coach is a jackass. He will try to embarrass Pikeville.

Hope to see Pikeville work on screens and short to intermediate passes to the middle of the field. Thought this would be a battle when it was scheduled but with injuries and other issues being worked on Pikeville isn't where they need to be yet. The most important thing is district play starts next week and everybody is 0-0. The focus will be on the 4-peat and the Panthers will get there, week by week.

Agree. Imo this has been needed throughout the season up to this point. Line is looking better so that should give him time to connect. Pikeville's brutal schedule no doubt will help them get to a 4-peat and having been healed up from those injuries.

Ironton is the only team from Ohio I really follow.  Ever since they played JC a year or two ago.  Plus I fish in the Ironton area often  Smile

Both teams are picks to win their state's class championships.

I'll be pulling for Pikeville!

I witnessed some ironton football players doing the Oklahoma drill on the beach at a campground in Myrtle beach one night this summer. They got some dudes for sure their running back is built different. I would expect pike to put up a good fight tho.
#27
This will not be close. Pikeville has a lot of pride and will play hard. The worry is more injuries due to that very fact. They have several players out and others who will play hurt. This has running clock written all over it and I am sure 1A teams will see blood in the water. But we haven’t seen Pikeville healthy in a long time. Bye week for them next week heading into district play. They get Paintsville after that which should be a running clock game and they can get some rest. I look for them to gain momentum heading into postseason and then we will find out who’s better. Pikeville or Campbellsville.
#28
All of this equals….practice is harder for games for Pikeville! Nothing in their run up to a 1A championship will compare to their regular season schedule- will it?

Pikeville got any kids not playing in this one.
