The following is a list of top returning Kentucky quarterbacks heading into the 2024 season.

The junior completed 301-of-434 passes for 4,743 yards and a ridiculous 68 touchdowns. On the ground, Atwell rushed for 695 yards and scored 17 times. Deuce Bailey, Bowling Green: The Missouri State commitment was a tough stop for opposing defenses last season and that's because of his abilities as a dual-threat. Baily finished 2023 completing 171-of-260 passes for 2,507 yards and 34 touchdowns. On the ground, Bailey rushed for 135 yards and three scores, but the year before went for over 400 in 2022.

Luke Pennington, Sayre: If you looked at the last name and did a double take, that’s because the junior’s father played in the NFL. Son of former NFL’er Chad Pennington, the signal caller was literally perfect throwing the ball, with 2,334 yards, 47 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Turning over he ball is a literal rarity for Pennington, very similar to the ball protection displayed by his father in the college and pro ranks.

Blaze Berry, Eminence: The 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback had himself a strong 2023 campaign and returns as one of the best passers in the state. Last fall, Berry completed 203-of-315 passes for 3,567 yards and 40 touchdowns. Look for the quarterback to surpass over 40 passing scores once again this season.

Bryce Button, South Warren: Button wowed folks last fall with his production as a passer and protected the football weekly. The Eastern Michigan commitment ended the 2023 campaign completing 168-of-26 passes for 3,008 yards, 35 touchdowns and just five picks. Also rushed for 217 yards on the ground.

Clay Hayden, Beechwood: Another junior quarterback that had some massive statistcs from a year ago was Hayden. The 6-foot-, 175-pound signal caller was among the top quarterbacks when it came to yardage andtouchdowns thrown. Hayden finished 2023 with 3,490 yards passing and 46 touchdowns to just five interceptions.

Cameron O'Hara, Cooper: When you talk about one of the top quarterbacks in Kentucky, regardless of classification, O'Hara is right up there with the best of 'em. The 6-foot-1, 160-pound signal caller completed 240-of-367 passes for 3,361 yards and 47 touchdowns.

Mario Litmer, Highlands: The other sophomore quarterback in Kentucky that put up some eye popping numbers last season was Litmer. The Bluebirds' signal caller finished throwing for 1,112 yards, 19 touchdowns and just two interceptions this season. Impressive numbers as a sophomore signal caller.

Kade Elam, Corbin: Elam was one of the top junior passers last season, completing 93-of-216 passes for 1,399 yards and 13 touchdowns and just two interceptions while rushing for 155 and adding eight scores. The signal caller has an offer from Eastern Kentucky.

I am not new to football. I think the Duty kid is a great QB but if you are going by the numbers then the numbers just don’t stack up. Duty deserves to be on the list. He has played with Birchfield, Boykins, and Anthony in the backfield and the staff would be foolish not to give those kids the bulk of offensive touches especially with the dominant lines they’ve had during his time at QB. So his attempts, completions, and yards are lower due to the talent the staff had access to. Arm talent wise, he’s right there with the rest at QB (he’ll play D1 baseball as a pitcher at the next level). People who just look at stats are the same goofballs who say LeBron is better than Jordan.

Duty is one of the better QBs in the state. He's isn't leaned upon quite like the others mentioned in that link, but he's big, has a good arm, and makes the right decisions for his team.

“Wins” purely are a team stat. I agree. I could have worded it better but I’ll take a winner at QB who elevated his team with leadership, poise, etc over a stats kid any day and twice on Sundays. Boley, Atwell, etc are all phenomenal HS QBs or examples of them but how many state championships there are is a big divider too. And having a QB who can keep Ds honest is a big big part of a winning team. Don’t want to knock any of the other kids and won’t. But I’ll just stick with having Duty. He’s a baller who deserves to be in the conversation. Period. If all he played were games against some of the other school schedules, his stats would be equal.

So I think we all agree he is a top returning QB for 2024. It's a no-brainer really. For one thing, QBs' record as a starter is absolutely a statistic that is looked at. Big factor for NFL when it's contract ($$$) time. Another statistic is QB rating. Not used in HS but excellent measure of how effective a QB is. Haven't crunched any numbers and not going to, but Duty's completion %, yards per attempt, TD passes to interception ratio etc. is right up there at the top. And the most important stat of all, he's led his team to 3 state championships in 3 years as starting QB.

Holy crap good thing for fact checkers on here! This will be his third year starting, 2-0 in championship games and 3 for 3 overall. Hopefully I can remember how to count to 3 and 4 by the time it's deep in the playoffs.

I didn't see who wrote the article but the freshman qb at Trinity won 5 playoff games last year.

Second point on Pikeville kid. Stats are around 50% of the story on whether a kid is atop qb or not. McNamee CHOOSES not to throw as much as other coaches.
