Belfry used to do the same. Not sure if they do it still. They’d start a week after the KHSAA allowed practices. Never hurt them. It’s nearly a 5 month season if you start on July 10 and make it to the state finals.

It's going to be funny when these kids go to these other schools and their parents can't run the program.. Hager and his staff don't need the distractions from these parents and kids who think they are above the program.. whatever happened to challenging yourself and others on the team to get better. Be the new era of pburg football. But I guess it's easier when mommy and daddy just take them and go somewhere else. IMO they shouldn't be eligible

That generation of kids is gone. Why would you go through a 2-9, 3-8 season when you can go 15 mins down the road and compete for championships

Exactly what kind of championship are you talking about? Definitely not a state championship. District? Don’t really know the rosters of both but didn’t Betsy Layne graduate a special senior class? Are they expected to be able to compete for a region championship this year? Can they be a top 10 2A team this year? I don’t get why the kids are leaving? Brewer was the blame before but now he’s gone and kids are still leaving so maybe he wasn’t as big of a problem as they said. I wonder if they would be leaving if Pburg would have hired the coach from Pikeville.

With the additions to the roster, Betsy Layne should be considered the favorite in their district. They also have a strong chance of making the regional championship round with the sister district being down this year.

If Betsy Layne can keep Parsons and McCutcheon healthy then they can win district and compete for region as well. Bobcats will have arguably the best offensive line in the region and 3 really good skill players. Again, key will be keeping the two I mentioned above healthy. There’s no backup QB and really no backup RB option either.

Prestonsburg is deeper than BL at the skill positions, but the complete opposite on the line.

As an outsider with no inside knowledge of any of the Floyd County programs it’s crazy for me to think that kids leave Pburg for football to play at Betsy Layne. To me it’s about like if a kid left Belfry to go over and play at Pike Central. Pburg used to be on the level that Belfry, Pikeville, and Johnson Central are now. But that was a while ago and none of the kids in school now can remember those days. To them all they know is Betsy Layne has been the top team in Floyd. County. Heck I’m sure most of them don’t remember South Floyd and Allen central being a school. And why are they leaving without ever giving the new coach a shot? Do they not like him and the staff?

Prestonsburg used to be very good. And had several years where they were outstanding and legit title contenders. But they have never ever been on the level of Belfry/Pikeville in point in their program/school history in football consistently (more than a couple years at a time here and there).

It would only be like belfry kids leaving for pike central if pike central beat them twice in a year.
