Collins has enrolled at JCHS to participate in summer ball.

Crazy that he is still a student at Betsy Layne for the time being lol

Not saying he isn't going soon, pretty certain that is a done deal at some point

He seemed like a really good player. I hope he gets some court time there. He would have gotten a lot for the Bobcats
Was told one of our guys was joining Floyd Central.

I just seen where D&D posted he was eligible. If Martin County gets one more transfer I believe they have a chance to be considered one of the top two or three teams in the region again this year.

Player who got playing time last year or a young player?

Im going to assume its the Hall kid.
Yes the Hall kid hope he stays but wish him the best if he leaves, kids got a bright future. The Estridge kid will do great at Martin County, he was one I thought could have excelled in our system but he puts in the work so he will excel for Martin County, wish both kids nothing but the best

Thought someone stated Hall was going to Paintsville or Prestonsburg? Or is he going wherever his dad lands?

I've been told that Paintsville is being considered at the top of the list.
Betsy Layne is making a huge mistake if they let Brayden and Mason leave. Brayden will be one of the best players in the 15th Region the next 3 years and if Mason can just get that opportunity to be a head coach at a high school, he will be one of the best ever by the time he retires, unless he moves up to college basketball. Wish both the best, but if this does happen, it shows how little they care about basketball at Betsy Layne High School.

Mason was an Assistant at Alice Loyd, and head coach Betsy Lane middle does he have any other experience?

It was surprising that he was cut loose at Betsy Layne Jr high level. He won nearly every county tourney. His son gave them the outside threat. But he was on the staff at the HS last season, I would've thought it was a good fit to keep some of the Jr High kids from bolting to somewhere else. But they cut him loose there too. So, their best 8th grader is leaving for JC, Brayden Hall is leaving and one kid that played there in Jr high for Mason but refused to play for Newsome and Howard already transferred to another school. Downtown Keeton Brown wont play there either.
I'm told that in addition to Collins, another 8th grade player is transferring after graduation. With a short bench and plenty of court time available, what is the world is happing there?
Is Mason the one that was coaching Betsy Layne middle before Robbie came?

This was the case if only for a brief moment, but this is no longer the case. From what I've heard since I posted this yesterday, more than likely will be Floyd Central.
More to Coaching than wins and losses unfortunately...very similar situation with Derrick Newsome (how you relate to parents/players, lack of communication, poor interpersonal skills goes a long way). Think of the Dr. with horrible bedside manner. "Most" don't want to to see them regardless of how well they can operate.

It's all about building a positive culture, sadly it's tough to do anymore when so many kids are leaving for better or other opportunities.
But I agree, every bit of this goes a very long way.

We will be ok, Mike’s got this, we will be the best team in District this coming season. Can’t let parents run a program, Mason is a good guy but kids have to know who the Coach is and can’t have an assistant going after there head coaches job. Wished Brayden would have stayed but he will do great at Floyd Central, remember who said it first

Yes

Yes he was. Nothing against Robbie Johnson, who is a great coach, but it wasn't broke at Betsy Layne. Like Spud said, politics reared its ugly head. As long as that's prevalent, Betsy Layne will be content winning the District every so often but not being a real contender for any region titles.

If Brayden and Mason wind up at Floyd Central, that should put them as the favorites in the 58th and if that young talent can continue to gel, they have a shot of making noise in the region. At the same time, Alan Moore has been there since what, 2019? He's got the one District title with no region wins and he has certainly had a lot of talent. I would imagine Mason would do wonders there if he got that opportunity.

The problem is that Floyd County can’t get out of its own way. The only county I’ve ever seen that literally couldn’t care less about having winning cultures in athletics. No offense to all the “academic” folk out there but kids and parents don’t transfer because of academics. Make your school a contender on the athletic side and the academics will come with it. Unfortunately our administration is too clueless to understand that concept.

Ok I thought so and yes I knew as soon as Robbie went back to BL the middle school job would be his in short order...

What ever happened with the Pikeville and SV situation?

Keene still at Pikeville. Sykes go back to SV?

Any new players at SV? Has any players enrolled at Belfry?

Not familiar with Floyd county coaches from the past. But do you care to share who was hired and fired for political reasons? There is a few recent ones that are obvious.

Did Ganvin Hamilton transfer back to SV from Letcher? He is pretty good. He was a Dorton kid.

Gavin is back at SV, Sykes and Keene are at Pikeville. These are facts.
