OSH: Now That Corbin Has a Coach (Apparently), Lots of Questions Remain

Hearing that Corbin swung for the fences but took a foul ball off the tibia and that it might be broken. Figures...

I heard there were a bunch of sad and mad faces today. Supposedly from a really good source, Justin declined the position to take over and is officially removing his name from the old hounds hat. Hart, Jewell and Cox thought there was a chance. I guess Haddix knows hindsight is always 20/20. Who would trust those guys? I want him back but how can you blame the guy?

Next up! Elam or mouser? I think they have to go with someone on staff with the timing of this. Tommy got the last laugh again as he walked away with this surprise. And left the program/kids with no time to get a great coach. It’ll be June 1 before they can officially line this out. Then you have the dead period. Then July practices and 7 on 7s. August Friday nights under the lights will be here before you know it.

Totally by design imo, all of how this, is playing out to do exactly as your saying give it to to Mouser or Elam….Let them go to Knox with Big daddy and see how it works out for them….Get rid of the rest of the blood suckers and let’s finally get back to trying to win football games instead of propping kids and coaches up….Enough is Enough get rid of the rest of the old guard and let’s get serious about hiring a coach and doing things the right way…Did we ever really think Haddix would come back with two of the major players in all this drama exactly in the same position they where when he left, he’s smarter than that, and who could blame him….Cant do anything half way finish the clean up and let’s get back to being Corbin excelling and winning doing what we have to get there….

We haven't won anything in 42 Gee Dee years!!! When is it too late to get back to doing something that you've not done since Rick Springfield was screwing Jessie's Girl?

It really wouldn't hurt my feelings much if Corbin lost every game they played this season, just because these old geezers around here that have ruled Corbin for half a century deserve losing. They don't deserve a winner. Yes, I know that's a bad attitude but after 42 years of wandering in the championship wilderness, I can rightly feel that way and have my bad attitude.

Also, Paul Taylor's mouth keeps writing checks that his ass can't cash!!! Don't you know, stupid man, that if you are gonna go after a prize that hard you better have all your ducks in a row. Does Paul think his warm and charming personality(lol) is all it takes to seal a deal. If I ever was crazy enough to do business with Paul Taylor, I would have to have much more than his word. Haddix is smarter than any of the Yahoos around here.

This song was on the radio the last time Corbin won a state title. How many people under 50 even remember Duran Duran?

David Cox and Steve Jewell should be ashamed of themselves for devastating the football program. History will not be kind to those two guys. They will go down in Corbin history as villains . B. Foley . Ugly, ugly villains.

Things will be no different in this hick town in 2053.   Good ol boy politics will turn a once elite program into one that will be lucky to win one title per century. I'm moving out of this sorry ass county when I retire in a few years. All we can hope for is that these old malignant narcissists eventually die off and a new way of doing things will take hold someday. Keith Richards will probably still be living when Corbin wins another title in football but I doubt anyone else on here will be.

Hungry like the wolf ... appropriate .   I don't think I'm well...   lol

I don't make this claim  lightly but knowing Thomas E. Greer like I have for 52 years, I think it's a claim that has tremendous merit. The timing was odd to say the least. Why not hang it up in January and give Corbin a legitimate chance of landing the top coach it desired?  The answer is is pretty clear. Tommy , the egomaniacal , malignant narcissist sociopath that he is, didn't want the next coach to succeed. Tommy has never been able to handle being upstaged. It was inevitable. Whenever Tommy hung it up, he was gonna do it in such a way that it made getting a top notch replacement nearly impossible.

Tommy intentionally hamstrung the Corbin program. He wanted Corbin to have to look from within to find his replacement. He sabotaged the immediate success of Corbin because that's what his fragile but large, self-delusional ego demands. Tommy likes to crow about that 46-5 record  the past four seasons.  Tommy played six really good teams during that stretch .  He lost five of the six. (Douglass '23 -W) ,  (Boyle '23- L)  ,  (Boyle '22- L)  ,  (John Central '21 - L)  ,  (John Central '20- L ) , ( Beechwood '20-L) .   Tommy did beat up on Hughes(Cincinnati) and Hazard and those tough district foes.

The fact is, Tommy Greer did not want his successor to have better success than he did.  That's why he waited until May, instead of January,  to move along. He will say, " I prayed about it and God told me it was time." Let me tell you this, as someone who has known this scoundrel for more than a quarter of a century, Greer has never said a fervent , sincere prayer in all of his miserable, almost sixty year existence on this planet. He plays up the "I'm a good Christian" card but he is the epitome of a fraud and demagogue. Tommy sabotaged the Corbin program. That's how he rolls.

One little anecdote from childhood. Tommy,  Dave Cox , Jeff Miller, Jim Botner, Peanut Haggard, David Champlain, Old School and a bunch of other neighborhood kids were playing ball down on the lot of what is now the Corbin Middle School (it was the high school back then). We played both nurf football and baseball(with a tennis ball). One day, we were playing a game of nerf football. Tommy got pissed when he thought someone had interfered with him catching a pass. He took our ball and heaved it onto the roof of the school, where it remained. "I guess it's game over, " the belligerent Tommy exclaimed.  Then he left.   Tommy was sabotaging his team even back in the early 70's ...

Tell me why I'm wrong.

Maybe, just maybe, he did this to bring Haddix home and leave Boyle County without a head guy and finally Greer finally gets a leg up on Boyle County even if it means retiring himself to do so.

(this is 100% a joke, I think)  Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Hot diggity dog…. I tend to agree with OSH on a post! I think this was the plan all along. Because, from my understanding this was a complete surprise. The only one that possibly knew about this plan was him and maybe an assistant. Dave Cox didn’t know, Steve Hart didn’t know, none of the board members knew.

I can’t say I’d be surprised either way. But I know what his “statement” to the community read. I’ve always said he was a snake.

I do know this though. He has left the team he loves so much in a situation. One that will be very hard to deal with if installation of a new game plan Is involved. Seems to be on purpose, and one of his assistants takes over.

I’m not saying it can’t happen. But it will be interesting to see a home run hire take over at the end of May.

Tommy wants to be a martyr to his supporters. And he does have his supporters.  Elton John said Levon wears his war wounds like a crown. Well, Old School says Tommy wears his failures like a crown of thorns.

Tommy will not speak to Old School. If I could get the interview I'd do it in a heartbeat. Tommy is the epitome of a Christian gentleman. He wouldn't caught dead speaking with a godless heathen like Old School.

Can't put this on the now former coach.  This one falls on the vocal minority that got the program to this point.  Anyone paying attention to what was going on outside the Corbin Football bubble for the last 30+ years knew what was about to happen.  Corbin had a chance to go get a guy but took a gamble on some safe odds.  At this point in the game it's going to be nearly impossible to find someone willing to leave their team unless a unicorn appears and gets to name their deal.  This will be the hire that sets the tone for the future of the program.  If they don't get this one right, it could be a long painful rebuilding process.

Corbin's hire will not be a long-term hire. Too late in the game for that.  It will be the interim route , imo.

I honestly think they are just fine. this group of assistant coaches are capable of keeping the train on the tracks. I think with the coaches have they just need to hire someone to shake hands and kiss babies going forward and anything above that is a plus. the asst. coaches volunteer with so many local athletics from T-ball to wrestling that these kids see them like family by the time they get to the HS and the middle school program does a great job of player development both on and off the field and the High School just builds on it. Haddix is a short timer in the HS ranks, I'm glad that we can move on to a potential long term hire if time was wasted talking to him.

Wonder if Steve Jewell can bring Matt in to be interim Head Coach for just this one season?

Had a couple people message me, wanting to know if I had anymore good Tommy or Dave stories. I'm Old School, I have hundreds. I'm working my way towards Medicare and a retirement home, so I lived long enough to have plenty of stories to tell. Btw, I will be the old curmudgeon carrying signs of belligerence and protest  at Campbell Field this season (until I get escorted out, that is).

I have a permanent scowl on my face. I will look something like this. If you seem me and my signs at the ball field, outside the Corbin BOE building or in the parking lot of the Root Beer Stand, stop by and say hi. Don't be surprised if I tell you to go to hell.

When I get time I will tell you all a little parable (a true one) about the time Tom Cat tried to nail my girlfriend in the parking lot of the old A&P grocery store on Master Street back in the early '80's .  Fun times...

also, these coaches have set up a Camp for June at Campbell field that will have a ton of former players with many of the stand outs from the last several seasons coming in to work with kids K-8th grade and have a fun day learning about the sport. they have had over 200+ kids sign up in less than 24 hours!

Rhymer?  I honestly don't know what legit coach is going to agree to a one season job.  It will just be someone to hold the fort down.
