Prestonsburg Open
(02-08-2024, 12:44 PM)Rainmaker33 Wrote: The bump in his pay I think would be the reason.
I don’t think there’s much of a bump in pay depending on what the offer was.  I’m sure the teacher pay in Pikeville is more than Prestonsburg…unless they offered an administration position and AD to the mix.

Not sure if there’s an administrative position available though.   I think Pburg has two assistant principals and a Dean of students already, so I don’t know where the bump in pay would come from.

No need to apologize.  I would estimate 70-80% of sources on this site are wrong.  It happens.

Everybody on here has been given false information at one time or another. It's hard to decipher the truth from the B.S, especially on this site.

Stirring the pot , keeping it interesting.
I’m not sure exactly what’s in the offer, but I’ve been told it’s a really great offer and pay bump over what he’s making now.

Also, there is a admin position opening up at the end of the school year. Assistant principal is retiring.

Sullivan did visit Prestonsburg yesterday and I was told it went great. I’ve also been told he already has coaches interested in joining his staff (possibly a few that applied for the job) and one coach that’s willing to come out of retirement to call the offense that Pikeville folks are familiar with.

This isn’t a done deal. He obviously really wants the Prestonsburg job, but at the same time this is a big decision to make and not an easy one. Very understandable. I hope he accepts. I know current players are excited about new beginnings and getting back started. Lots of boys are interested in playing as well that haven’t been playing football either. Athletes from other schools are very interested in what happens with Sully too.

A answer could come at any time, but I kinda expect it to be next week.

Go Blackcats!

If he “really wanted” the Prestonsburg job he would have already accepted I would think. Truth is he’s not leaving Pikeville and y’all better be lookin for a coach. Just my opinion
Pburg shouldn’t have let him walk out of that interview without him being HC. Ask him what he wants and make it happen. This is crazy to think about but summer practice starts in 5 months. About 150 days. The longer they wait the harder it’s going to be on the next coach and the players.

Great point, also they need to think about season prep with scrimmages, most teams are filling up their preseason scrimmages and more than likely you’re not going to get any quality scrimmages in due to teams being filled up.

weight room needs to be ran by a football coach focusing on sport specific training, players are going to be so far behind because the administration dropping the ball… no sense of urgency for the players or the program from the person making the decisions. Pitiful.
Who takes Coach Sullivans spot at Pikeville if he does leave?

Didn’t Daniel Harmon leave SV to go to Pikeville? I remember watching him play at Pikeville. Think he was the DC at SV when he was there so probably him. He has DC experience.
My interview is this afternoon, wish me luck..
The “don’t let him leave without giving him what he wants” comments are a little out of touch. It’s high school football. They can offer assistant principal/Dean of students and the AD position. That with HFC will be a big raise. That’s what is enticing. He doesn’t want to leave Pikeville but the opportunity is enticing financially- also a fun challenge.

Who are other applicants? Does anyone know

Understand what you’re saying but I meant you have to let him know you’re giving him the best possible offer you can and make it clear he’s your #1 choice and assure him he will have the resources needed and able to hire the staff he wants. I like mountain football better when Pburg is good. Always loved watching those Belfry/Pburg games back in the early 2000’s

Here’s some truth for you. There is a lot of garbage in this thread you shouldn’t trust. I’ll start with that. Nothing is decided. A great offer has been made that is financially enticing. That’s it. To say he wants the job or wants to be there is a stretch. He wants to be a head coach. He wants to be at Pikeville. There is no clarity when that may be available. That’s the only reason this is a remote possibility. Not being mean but would you want your kids to go to Pikeville or Prestonsburg? What opportunities are available at each place? There is a clear difference. That’s just honest. If it’s about money or he likes the challenge of building a program because that is what it will be, a rebuild, he will go to Prestonsburg and it will take some time. They would be immediately better and competitive but to win bigger games, meaningful deeper playoff games, it will take some time. Remember, LCA, Mayfield and Beechwood are in that class. Zero chance for a long time at a title and maybe never. If he is given any clue that he is the next head coach at Pikeville and that is relatively soon, even 3-5 years, he isn’t going anywhere. I do believe he has asked a few people about being on staff if he were to accept.

If I am Prestonsburg and he doesn’t accept, I have wasted a lot of time and now my next choice is going to know he wasn’t the pick of the litter. They will also have to overpay for someone they didn’t want and the excitement won’t be the same as it would be if Sullivan somehow accepted. If he doesn’t accept, huge letdown. It would be a suck the air out of the room kind of letdown because they truly think they are in a good position.

If Sullivan truly “wanted” to be there, he would have accepted already because the offer is good. I do think he is struggling with a decision. That is why the wait continues. Is Prestonsburg being leveraged? If some clarity becomes available in Pikeville, this would come to a close quickly and he would likely be staying put. I do believe Sullivan would likely bring some good coaches and possibly some talent with him from surrounding schools if he decided to leave and even Pikeville could take a hit. The rumors I have heard ranges from a big hit if some kids follow or could be no more than losing a great defensive coordinator. Those are simply rumors and would remain to be seen but the beat will go on for Pikeville. They are loaded for the next 2-3 years and have a younger group coming along who are strong as well. This is really interesting though if you are a high school football fan in the area.

Sullivan may want to take a look at the basketball program and see what’s happening. Apparently the parents are mad even though the coach has improved the team both years he’s been there and all mad cause their kid isn’t getting enough PT or used the “right” way. Would he have issues even if he had success cause the right people’s kids weren’t playing the right position or getting enough time on the field.

Sullivan does want the job, like I’ve said and I get that’s hard for some to swallow, but just because he wants the job doesn’t mean he also doesn’t want to leave Pikeville either. He is torn. The decision isn’t as cut and dry as some think.

Prestonsburg made him a great offer and has shown him he’s 100% who they want. He knows that. If he doesn’t accept the job then it’s a gut punch and the search basically starts over.

I wonder if he’s waiting to see if Pikeville can offer him something that will increase his pay there to keep him. Just like Pburg wants him I’m sure Pikeville doesn’t want him to go.

I agree. Money is great but patience is likely going to get him what he ultimately wants anyway. Everybody knows he can coach. He doesn’t have to take a rebuild to prove that. He will be an awesome head coach whenever that happens. It comes down to if he needs or wants the money and/or just wants to create a program of his own. He has a young family and that reportedly weighs heavily on this decision. Parents want and usually do what’s best for their kids. Is that money now or maybe wait and see for later? What opportunities are available at each place? Being coach at one school and having your kids go somewhere else is probably not the best look so does taking the new gig and moving your kids/family to a new school impact their relationships with friends and teammates and does it lower their opportunities as they progress through high school? I think it most definitely changes a lot of things for the kids. I know what my decision would be but I can see how it is a difficult decision also.

I’m sure Pikeville is aware of what the offer from Pburg looks like. Will they match? I don’t know for certain. If they do, I can’t see him leaving.
Alot of good points on here, also a lot of foolishness. I’ve had conversations outside of social media, and I’ve heard some say that the delay is an ego thing. Sullivan thinks he’s too good to leave Pikeville for Pburg. I assure any of ya on here that might also think that, if ya really knew Paul, that’s the furthest thing from him making a decision. It’s all about his family and what’s best for them, mainly his kids. No offense to anyone on here, but we all know that the education at Pikeville is much better.

My Facebook feed says our fan base is aware that this is a real possibility of him leaving.

It also has me wondering if their is some fracture in our coaches and administrators

Mine as well. A lot of the Pikeville faithful are well aware of the possibility, and they don’t like it. They’re not upset with Sullivan, they’re upset with the administration letting this even be a possibility.

I get what you’re saying but it’s possible Prestonsburg can offer him money that Pikeville can’t as far as positions go. Probably has nothing to do with him being upset with Pikeville. If they can give him an assistant principal job and the AD job and Pikeville doesn’t have an opening for that not sure what they could do. If you had a chance to make a decent amount more money would you not take it? It sounds like Pburg is rolling out the red carpet for him and they should if they really want him.

It sounds like he’s a great coach. Has to be if Pikeville fans are getting mad he’s potentially leaving and Pburg is doing everything they can to steal him away. But whether he leaves or not Pikeville will be fine. Just like Bama with Saban. Yes he’s gone now but Bama is Bama and the tide will continue to roll.
