Surprised about it being 2 years instead of 4.

This is set in stone.
I Heard someone say there school was going to try to appeal. I thought it was bogus just clearing that up.

It's due to skewed numbers because of covid.
Hazard, Paintsville, and Pikeville will have to fill 8 games only having 2 district games. That will be tough for a 1A program especially Pikeville since they are really good. Beating a 1A program does very little to help teams rpi wise so not much incentive to schedule them.

Makes no sense to me to have a five team district in class A. I do t wanna hear about travel time. When I play Wheelright and Hazard was in Racelands district. It’s pretty simple math. 32 teams with 8 districts with four teams in each. Why they gotta make shit so hard ?

Apparently Harlan was in district 8 and requested to move to district 7. It makes sense logistically but sucks for the 3 schools in district 8. You’ll have 3 top 10 1A teams in the same district. With Belfry’s new district their closest district game will be Magoffin County who is an hour and 15 minutes away. Estill County will be a 2 and a half hour trip for a district game. Powell County is over 2 hours and Morgan Co. is an hour 45 minutes. Crazy
I don’t get it either. There’s no reason for it. There’s no way in gods green space rock that you can’t logically figure out the logistics of it all? Unreal. I say throw districts out the window. Have 4 regions, play your schedule, get what you get out of it from the RPI standpoint and let the chips fall where they may.
A lot of top 10 1A and 2A schools are going to have to play each other in this alignment to get games.

And district games have to be played during a certain window, so virtually no one is scheduling non-district games during that time.

Big news for your smaller schools.

"The Board approved the recommendation for football RPI calculations to allow for two “down-play” games. This will permit each team’s first two games played against an opponent from a lower class not to include the class factor, allowing even the perception of RPI impact not to impact scheduling. The RPI factor of out-of-state opponents remains unchanged for the 2023 football season. The Board also elected to adjust football RPI calculations regarding the withdrawal of teams from competition. The RPI class factor will stay the same for any school that withdraws during the season at the level of that team when game contracts were signed (rather than defaulting to a no-class factor if a team withdraws)."

No reason to have a 3 team district at this point.

May have to go out of state to find someone to fill the schedule. I’d like to see Pikeville pick up Dobyns Bennett out of Kingsport or Science Hill out of Johnson City. Both are really solid.

That is a HUGE win for small schools, especially Class A teams.  Hopefully, this will alleviate the scheduling issues that have troubled so many small schools across the state.  I know of one school in particular that is having major issues filling the last 3 games on their upcoming schedule.
^^^Will have to wait and see if this has much impact on top Class A teams. The incentive is still there for bigger schools to play the weaker smaller schools to get the W for RPI purposes. Don't know how much it will help Pikeville.
When you get to the 3rd round is it seeded RPI wish with districts 1-4 and 5-8? Or are all the remaining teams seeding RPI regardless of District?

Top Tier Class A teams will have a very difficult time scheduling games. I have even heard coaches mention playing down will hurt their RPI.

The 3rd round goes by RPI with districts 1-4 remaining teams playing and then 5-8 playing. The semifinals is the based on the RPI of the 4 remaining.

So East/West still matters to a degree
