Pike Co. Central @ Paintsville (No refs --- game cancelled)
#31
More to this story than is being let out.

They could have played today.

They could have played with 3

They could have pulled one from Johnson Central is 4 is law

I think someone didn’t want to play, and that would probably be Pike Central

I could referee that game by myself. Just call Paintsville’s historical average of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties which I believe is 4 and only call other penalties everybody in the stands sees.

After talking to one of my referee buddies they told me that you are not allowed to play a varsity football game without at least 4 officials. I guess that is a KHSAA rule. 3 showed up 1 didn’t. And people
Who say just grab ole Johnny out of the stands to do it you can’t have someone as an official who is not licensed by the Khsaa. That would be a major lawsuit if something happened during the game. Would be the same as asking a doctor to perform surgery who is not licensed. How long did the teams wait until the decision was made to cancel?

Kevin Garris is PATHETIC. I’m tired of hearing we have an “official shortage”. They are all leaving the 15th region because of him. Baseball was a s*it show with umpires… Football has been a sh*t show with officials… I don’t even want to know what basketball season is going to be like. He needs to go. It also doesn’t matter how many complaints or reports you send in. Julian Tackett has no balls either. All political and it’s very unfortunate for the young men and women that practice all week and all season just for a couple of old heads that have zero clue what they are doing make a mess of everything. Hate this for Pike Central and Paintsville.
Something needs to be done KHSAA is a JOKE.

*mic drop*

Refereeing is so easy a cave man can do it. I saw a game at Raceland once that had 5 refs and not one of them threw a single flag on Raceland. Talk about easy money…

Haha refereeing is as hard as brain surgery! Made my day!

Kids lost their senior night, of all people you would think Pikeville fans would have some sympathy towards not having a 10 game schedule with all their issues getting teams to play.
But nope, let’s use this as an opportunity to bash Paintsville. Good one JP!

I’m just saying as far as the lawsuit. Not saying it’s as hard. But you can’t just get some random guy out of the stands to do it like some said to do.

It was an attempt at a joke. Sucks for Paintsville. I blame the KHSAA. Should be playing today worst case scenario.

Should be able to. At least some random guy showed up. Literally anyone can referee especially with help from 3 veterans.

Too soon.

I’m assuming either one or both didn’t want to play today. There’s nobody to blame but the KHSAA unless this one dude decided this was his chance at payback for whatever crazy reason. (I have no idea who the official was that didn’t show up).

I still find it odd that they simply couldn’t reroute an official from a local game.

I don't know what needs to happen, but something has to change to get men and women back out refereeing our games. If something doesn't change, we're going to see more and more games in all sports cancelled or postponed.

Hate it for the players, especially the Paintsville seniors.
What needs to change are the combative attitudes of coaches, players and especially FANS.    That’s what’s pushing folks away from refereeing.   And folks…if you think it’s “so easy” to see everything…and call everything….then take the class, get a whistle and jersey and try it!    Much, much harder than anyone thinks.

I refereed quite a bit back in the day. Not 1% as hard as my day job. Fun in fact. 1. Know the rules 2. Don’t throw your flag unless you are 100% sure 3. If anyone starts giving you a hard time cut them off quick with a stern warning. People forgive a missed call here and there, it’s going to happen. Fans know very well the difference between good refs and not so good refs.

The KHSAA needs to step up and fix this problem instead of blaming others.
#45
The eradication of the old sloppy just showing up for the money ref, like one that we all know too well from the Johnson county area who shows up with his pants halfway off and his shirt untucked, hat halfway on, shoes untied, and just ambles around the field waiting to collect his money. This guy gives referees a bad name.
#46
They played with 3 officials last night at East Ridge. White hat went out with back injury in second quarter.
#47
I just hate this for those kids. Not just the football players but also the cheerleaders and even the kids in the band who had to miss out on their senior night. I don't blame the teams for not wanting to make up the game on saturday tho with the playoffs starting this coming week.

I do know Pike Central’s 6th grade team is playing in the middle school state tourney today, so that might be why PC couldn’t reschedule to today.

I’m not sure who the teams are but I just saw on Facebook that a 6th grade today was originally scheduled for 4:00PM but the officials never showed up and the game is being delayed and the 8th grade game between Pikeville and Belfry had to be moved back because of it.  It sounds like what happened last night is part of a much bigger problem.

Apparently the officials were told the first game started at 6. That is what I was told.

The obvious just dawned on me. Paintsville should have their senior night this Friday and act like this past Friday never happened.

They did have their Senior Night festivities before the game was scheduled to begin.

So they at least got that.
