The Ram defense should be lights out considering every player on it has the equivalent of 2 full years of high school experience with a few having 3 and nearly 4 full years of experience of playing high school football.I know Lykins, but see mention of Webb. Who is this? Where did he come from? Is he filling a void from the team from last year?
They are facing a team in Ashland whose entire offense with the exception of a couple of players is getting their first career varsity start. Defensively, Ashland does have some experience returning but this is experience from a defense that gave up 262 yards rushing to East Carter, 394 yards passing to Russell, and 105 yards rushing to the Greenup quarterback in their last 3 regular season outings.
Put simply, this is as "David vs. Goliath" as you'll ever see in an Ashland-Raceland matchup where Raceland is actually playing the role of Goliath. They've done all the right things at Raceland as far as players taking the COVID year and holding back. Getting Lykins and Webb was icing on the cake. The only thing they haven't done right is getting their turf installed. That's a little disappointing as I would have thought they would have had the whole community out there trained in cutting and gluing numbers and hash marks round the clock to get that inaugural game played for this team. The field looks great. Whatever the case, though, Raceland is a 14 point favorite over Ashland no matter where the game is played.
There are no excuses for Raceland this year. It's state championship or bust.
As an aside, though, does Wheelersburg's field come with Ohio refs? If that's the case, expect flags any time a Kentucky team scores a long TD or hits a big play. This one could end up 0-0.
Brayden Webb. He’s a junior that came from Symmes Valley. He was on the Division VI first team per the link below. Apparently, he’s an even better baseball pitcher and basketball player. Big get for the Rams this year.

Definitely not this many...Scotty we don’t disagree often but I’m not sure I agree with you on this one. I won’t deny that we have a lot of skill on this team but I can think of other groups that were just as skilled if not more. The 2013-2014 teams with Messer, Dixon, and Young were stacked and we definitely don’t have a Messer type of player and it would be difficult to match the other two I mentioned as well. Again I am not knocking our current team and we definitely have some good players but there have been several teams throughout the years that were equally or more talented than the 2022 version of the Rams.
That being said, that was in the past and this is now. The team we have this year should have a really good season and I’ve been guilty of jumping in the hype bandwagon at times too but I think we should all pump the breaks on talking about how good we are until we actually prove it on the field.

Blaze that may be true in terms of no messer type player. But i dont thi k we have had a team that could go 2 deep at the skill positions and not really take a step back.

I think Raceland makes a statement and wins 34-22.

To me, a "statement win" is more than 3 scores. That being said, Ashland is debuting a new coach an entirely new backfield, a new QB and lost 2 of the best returning players in the area. They will have to get creative and get Jordan(i believe is his last name) in space as much as possible to be competitive early in the year.
Dont let a wide margin of victory (if it happens) create false hope. This is jot the same Ashland that won a title a few short years ago.

I admit I don't know much about Ashland, I just figured beating a 4A rival on a neutral field would be a statement.
Honestly I'm just excited too see how the Rams look, even if Pikeville were to begin the season 0-5, similar to Belfry last year, I know the Rams are 1 of only 2 Class A schools that has a realistic chance to dethrone my Panthers.
Good luck to you guys, I sincerely hope you guys take down the Tomcats.

QB
Raceland's Lundy has 1966 career yards passing vs. Ashland's Strader who has 11.
RB
Raceland's Wallace has 1442 career yards rushing and Farrow has 824. Ashland's top 2 returners are Clutters with 88 and Brown with 77. Not sure either will even get a carry.
WR
Raceland's Hughes has 1230 career yards receiving and Newman has 999. Hughes would have more but he had to play QB for a season. Ashland's Jordan has 381 and Brown has 141.
LINES
Raceland's lines are old and experienced, having amassed well over 100 career starts between them. Ashland's lines are young and inexperienced, several getting their first career start.
ROSTER CHANGES
Raceland got Lykins from Russell and Webb from Symmes Valley. Ashland lost Pittman and Thacker to Ironton. Another lineman who would have started, Pereira, isn't even on their roster anymore.
This is a mismatch on paper. Like I've said, if Raceland manages to fall short this year by losing either of these first 2 rival games or not at least competing well for the state title, I would question the coaching. They have a loaded roster that doesn't come along very often, particularly for a class A school. The only thing I can see they failed at was getting a D-1 player that could break a TD on any play. If I were them, I would have tried to lure one of Ironton's backs across the river since there won't be enough carries to go around over there. That aside, even though the Chinese calendar would say it's not until 2027, I would say 2022 is the year of the Ram.

We nearly had a MAJOR transfer from across the river, that would have done just that, but it didnt end up happening. It is one that would have shocked just about everyone. Would have loved having him, but tbh, the transfer would have left me scratching my head.

On a side note…wth is going on in Raceland? Look…I’ve never been a homer…one that lays around at the school. But I drive by this week and I thought there was a game going on. So may people down there. I asked someone what I was missing and they said nothing. It’s just football practice. What??? Why do so many parents go to practice? What ever happened to dropping your kids off and going to get something to eat? Why is there so many people at practice? I was told the other day when they had team camp that there was a ton of extra people. Girlfriends and moms hanging out in the gym….wth hahah. I know I’m gonna have someone jump all over me but I can take it. Some of y’all need a hobby hahah

Things are very different now. Every practice is an event. That being said, everyone keeps their distance. Im over there a bunch. One thing i absolutely love is the open door policy Mike has developed with the youth league. Ive sat in on countless practices and meetings. As have our boys. The sense of communitly has never been better in our program.

It’s a shame the Rams couldn’t start there season like they should have.. When will the actual first game be on the turf?

Rams are controlling the tempo of the game. If they continue to stretch the field we will be able to run the ball at will come the fourth quarter. Raceland has a matchup today issue at the corners with the bigger Assland receivers. Let’s see what happens in the second half…Assland gets the ball to start the second half

Ashland has about 80 on the roster but about 30 of those are frosh.
