Corbin 75 Garrad County 67
#1
Corbin bounces back from last night's thumping in Baxter to win over the Lions at L.U. Gilliam  gymnasium on the campus of the always lovely but sometimes confounding Corbin High School.  The Hounds improve to 2-1 on the season while the Lions fall to 1-2.

Anyone know the foul count?

Why do you ask?   Please don't start the "Corbin gets all the homecooking calls" stuff again. We hear that fake news  every season. Remember, I've been watching games there for 45 years.

Many would disagree with you on that. Does Pietrowski have a connection to the ref association in the 13th region?

His dad, who is deceased, used to be connected to above mentioned association.

That is correct. Now, can you explain to me why the Ely guy gets to officiate Corbin’s games? I mean, he played there, with the coach. Is that a conflict?

Dude, I'm still trying to figure out why Corbin is called Corbin instead of Nibroc  and why they there's a statue of a pedophile in downtown Nibroc...  I mean Corbin.

Of course Corbin gets home cooking. Everyone knows that. This was probably an even game as Corbin is always +8 points at home before the opening tip.

WRONG!!!   But I hope teams continue believing that fake news. Gives a mental edge to the home team. Have you been watching games there for over four decades like I have, James? Now, back in the day, Bob Keith had the refs in his pocket over in Manchester. But Pietrowski in Corbin, no way!
Keep believing that, though.

I can't believe that you would deny Corbin's home cooking!!! It's funny, in a sad sort of way.

I knew Paul personally and couldn't have any more respect for anyone as I did him. I couldn't have any LESS respect for anyone that I have for Tony.

And YES, I have watched Corbin sports for four decades.

At Harlan Co. the other night, Corbin had 3 tram fouls with about 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter. The count ended up 24-6 I believe. It was very uneven. Everyone in the building knew how bad it was. Brent Gray was making a concerted effort to try and keep Corbin in the game. The matchup later in the season at Corbin is one that most expect to be rough for Harlan County. They will get beat up there. 13th region referees are corrupt and everyone knows it.

Could you explain?  Personally, I wasn't terribly fond of  Daddy Paul.  But most folks seem to like Tony, at least that's what I thought. Did Tony have Ballmom's son riding the pine? Sounds very personal.

Big T could NEVER bench my son because I would never EVER allow him to play under him.

And no...I do not care to explain.

Harlan Co. shot around 40 3's, hitting around half of them though.  You don't get fouled much doing that. Already making excuses just in case you lose, good thing your coach doesn't believe in that tactic.

Didn't think so. Coach's track record speaks for itself.

Utter nonsense!!!

And yes, Corbin will lay the wood to Harlan County when they meet in Corbin. Not because of any help from officials but Tony and his team will learn from the loss and get better.  HC won't shoot lights out every game , either. Hounds will win in Corbin. Mark it down.

I agree Big T will be ready!!!

They’ll get plenty of help from the officials. I’m sure Coach’s old teammate Ely will be there helping him out. HC is superior to Corbin in every way. It would take a monumental effort and near flawless effort for Corbin to hang with them...and that’s with the officials helping.

Here's the link to the Corbin-Harlan county game. Judge for yourself.

Try it again. THIS is the link to Corbin-Harlan County. Again, make your own judgements about whatever you want to judge.

Pretty confident in a team that got absolutely waxed on a game where they were the beneficiary of a lopsided foul count. HC had you down by 32 at one point. I guess we will see if the wood will get layed to them. I was actually referring to the refs allowing Corbin to get away with a lot of obvious fouls. There’s no question HC is a lot better.

They were a lot better on ONE night. Pietrowski's teams at the end of the season bare no resemblance to the one you see early on. This Corbin team has the potential to be right in the thick of things come March.

Yep, working on 500 wins. Probably over 800 by the time he calls it a career.  Seems like you have some personal issues with the well respected Redhounds head man.
#21
I don’t have any issues with him. He’s a good coach. I don’t fault him for getting calls. He’s not the referee making absurd calls. I actually think he’s one of the top 2 or 3 coaches in the region. And I also agree, Corbin will get better as the season goes. But, I stand by my statement that HC is superior talent wise. And , if my memory serves me correctly, HC has owned Corbin in the regional tournament of late.

HC is clearly the better team, I don’t believe the redpuppys will laying wood to the Bears or anybody else. Dream on!

Tony P is a very excellent HS coach and I like him a lot! He has way more class than some folks that think they know it all…..

Tony P and Mike Jones are both very excellent coaches IMO. HC is a well run solid program and has some very clean and respectable rivalries with a few teams and this years team will be a treat to watch, good kids, great shooters and a team that plays for each other!

Forgive me for posting all this on thread about Corbin vs Garrard County.

I agree with most of what you said. Good post.    I think the season has to play out til the end before we can conclude that Harlan County is clearly the better team. Corbin has some excellent athletes from the gridiron that are still working their way into basketball shape.  We will see in March who is the better team. It's dangerous to ever bet against Pietrowski, although Michael Jones is an excellent coach as well. I still say that the Dark Bears will not get out of Corbin with a win .

I mostly take issue with the Momma poster who said shouldn't think of anyone she has less respect for than the Corbin coach. Someone told me back a couple of years ago that if you don't like Coach P you probably don't like yourself very much. Mommyballer may have some self-loathing going on.

That is such a confounding statement. Tony must have cut little Johnny Ballmom.

They professor must have been the one over behind Corbin bench cussing the boys and got a face full of water lol and couldn’t see the floor when there players were riding the backs of the Corbin players all night ???
#26
No, but I saw what happened there. The kid threw water on the guy as he walked behind the bench headed to concession or restroom. The guy appeared to be minding his own business, but no way to know if he said something prior to the kid throwing the water. I have no idea who started that one. With that said, the guy should’ve reported it to the principal or whoever was in charge.
