The top 4 teams here should win their remaining regular season games. With that, Beechwood and Mayfield will switch based solely on RPI. So, it's not likely Middlesboro and Mayfield will face each other. The rivalry with Mayfield and Beechwood should continue. The winner of that game? It depends on who "shows up".

Middlesboro will be heading to LCA in the semis. Unless something crazy happens, that is a foregone conclusion. Also looks like they will be travelling to West Carter in the quarterfinals but I think they win that game.

It is not a certainty yet that what is in the AP poll here is not how the RPI will finish out either, as far as Beechwood and Mayfield are concerned. This is the RPI as it currently sits:

  1. Lexington Christian .83261
  2. Beechwood  .75743
  3. Mayfield  .72773
  4. Green County  .64924
  5. West Carter  .63716
  6. Middlesboro  .62631
It will be interesting to see how it ends up with those two. Beechwood has Newport (3-6) and NCC (6-2) still to play, while Mayfield has Murray (5-2) and MNH (3-6) left. This is going to be an interesting litmus test for the RPI system. NCC has a higher RPI than Murray or MNH, but both of the latter are in higher classes. I'll be really interested to see how it is looking going into the last week. After this week's games are over, if Beechwood is still ahead of Mayfield, and then Mayfield leaps Beechwood after week 10, then my recommendation to any 1A or 2A school would be to schedule 5A and 6A cupcakes because that's where the RPI value is. This is of course assuming both teams win out.

Did Edmonson County really get 6 votes? They haven't won a game this year.

Big Grin Nice catch. They got more votes than three teams that beat them badly.
