Thx have absolutely no clue how to post all of those like you just did. Their are a lot of surprises in the first RPI.
#4
They are but it will change every week until the last week of the regular season as you already know.

I would think if Boyle wins out they will be the #1 seed in 4A, but that’s a big if they still have Lexington Catholic to play and Fredrick Douglas at seasons end.

From what I’ve seen I don’t think the Lex Cath game is gonna change Boyles standings and I’m not sure even a Fredrick Douglas loss would do much to change it, not that I’m already penciling in a FD loss, was just saying.

I agree.

The RPI shows some teams know how to play it. You can schedule yourself 4 or 5 wins and be near the top. If you are Belfry, you scheduled way too hard. Look at their OWP and OOWP and it tells you all you need to know.

Hopefully this works itself out by the end of the season, but right now it's nothing but a laugh.

We are a couple weeks in, so this isn’t the model the khsaa wants to put out right now. At the end of the year the rpi will work itself out just like it did in 2019, covid messed up 2020. I know the khsaa has to put it out now for the coaches and fans sake of mind, but when you look at teams that have played 3-4 games, there’s no accurate representation until way later.

So how does the RPI work with covid forfeiture this year? Same as last year?
#12
I agree! Even last year, RPI isn’t made for a 5-6
Game schedule. Not enough data for it to accurately work.

Our schedule might come back to bite us this year. A lot of it is not the schools fault. Normally, somerset, Pulaski, Franklin, they are solid teams. This year they are down. Simon Kenton is a decent team most years, they are 0-4. Most years if you ran through them, you’d be #1. And I’m not talking about right now. I couldn’t care less what it says right now. You have a LC team just get blown out, and they’re #2. But on the other side, dropping beechwood, and BG was killer. I still think Christ school would be in the top of 4A but it doesn’t matter because they are out of state. Corbin and boyle will write their own checks from here on out, but our SoS worries me a little now.

Do you mean as far as the numbers? This year Unlike last year, if one team cancels and the other wants to play and the game can’t be made up, the team willing to play receives Covid forfeit. Last year both teams received the same thing.

It didn’t in 2019 for 1A either, it had Kentucky Day #1 all year until Paintsville went there and beat them bad now it might have in the other classes I can’t remember but I know 1A wasn’t right. The higher classes are pretty much worked out at the end but 1A and 2A will never be right because the northern part of the state 1A teams play the weak 5A and 6A teams and gets the big jump in RPI points just like this year so they will always be ahead of the mountains teams.

That was 2020 with covid, 2019 was pikeville paintsville and i’m pretty sure they were the best two teams in the class outright.

RPI is broken. Frankfort beat Paris by like 50 and Paris is rated higher in the RPI lmao.
#17
I'm surprised Mayfield is #2 and Beechwood #3. Neither team will be challenged the rest of the way with only District games remaining with Beechwood playing 1a NCC and Mayfield playing 4a Madisonville to end the season. If the Tigers have to make that 5 hour trip to West Ky., then that could be a very interesting game in the semi's.

I’ve been saying it for a while, I think Mayfield goes Krogering, if Beechwood has to go to War Memorial, that’s about like practicing dentistry with a grizzly bear….

Beechwood has a bye this week, and then plays 6A Dixie Heights next week, so they can certainly make up some ground in the RPI. Fairdale and Covington Catholic should also go on a run of wins down the stretch which will help Beechwood’s RPI.

No not really. Like everyone says, RPI isn’t meant for the beginning or even 2/3’s of a the season. The more you play, the more it accurate. But even a majority of systems or metrics wouldn’t be right after 4-5 games. I do believe it does need some tweaking. But it’s so much better than cross dristric’ing. Now you have title games that are awesome for the most part.
#21
If the rpi could factor in out of state opponents better than a .500 team, it might work for the future. There needs to be tweaks in that for sure and some other things. Like Christ school (nc) is a significantly better win for the red hounds than would be a .500 4a team, but nobody looks at that. And i’ve been screaming that there needs to be margin of victory implications, beating a team by 1 and then by 50 is the same.

With all that said, i’ll take this over cross districting any day of the week.

So, hypothetically,  if the 4A RPI stayed the same the rest of the season, what would Corbin's path to Kroger look like?

Game 3
Game 4
Game 5

Who do we likely see the Hounds' facing?  I can't keep up with  districts, regions, seeds,RPI's, which team travels where,  etc... Someone help me out. Who will the Hounds be playing and where?

The most likely scenario after it all plays out, and boyle not losing, would be something along these lines but is not limited to
game 1 wayne home
2 knox home
3 JC at home
4 a team from hopkinsville at home
5 boyle state

This class is so stacked in a few districts it’s ridiculous or this schedule would be even worse.

They were the 2 best teams but not in the RPI rankings. KCD 1 Pikeville 2 LHC 3 Paintsville 4
This was 2019.

My personal complaint is that the 1A numbers will always be skewed due to geography. Your eastern teams simply cannot play enough weak 5A/6A schools to stay in the mix for the top spot. Your Louisville area schools are taking full advantage of this and it shows.

Thanks so much.   So Corbin will have four home games and then the state final against Boyle?  That's kinda what I was thinking  just wasn't sure who the third and fourth game opponent would be.

I agree. That is why the last 2 years things have went the way they have in the championship game. The last 2 years, one could argue that both Pikeville(2019) and Paintsville(2020) played their best competition, either in the semis, or the regional round of the playoffs. No matter what happens, until they do something to balance things out from a classification standpiint. Its never going to change. KY needs 5 classes. Imo, that keeps things more competitive across the board. Sure, you dont have the greater chance for smaller schools in each class to win titles, but imo, 5 classes makes everything more competitive.

That's only if the playoffs started today. You are right that Corbin will have 4 home games as long as we win out, but I'm not sold on Boyle being the top RPI just yet either. If they lose one game, after a Math guru just told me, then it all changes. Boyle is at there highest RPI right now, they will lose points every week. Wait and see. Corbin will climb every week. By the end of the last night like always we will know for sure who is on top. But if Boyle wins out, they will stay where they are at, the top. But I wouldn't rule Corbin out as the #1 seed until its set in stone.

RPI is above my pay grade to understand it. I will understand it after week 10. Lol!!

They were the best 2 but Kentucky Day was #1 Pikeville #2 Holy cross #3 and Paintsville was # 4 and it’s going to be that way because of who the northern 1A teams play  the weak 6A and 5A teams especially the better 1A teams like Kentucky Day and Louisville Holly Cross and it will be that way this year but your upper classes dont see that big of jump in RPI and it’s good for them and again it’s even hard for scheduling for 1A teams that are any good because of the big point drop in RPI if you lose to a 1A school
