Ralphy is at the Regal Beagle and he had way to many brews, actually I think he had to many when he made that statement

Impossible to know which team was better, and it doesn't matter anyway.

I think this Pikeville team should be in the top 10 this year. They have won and/or destroyed all competition. Only real knock is there really wasnât a worthy challenger this year, but there isnât anything Pikeville can do about that.

Wasnât a worthy challenger? Pikeville beat the 3A state champs and arguably had the toughest schedule in 1A this year.

Believe it or not I was pulling for the Panthers in this one. It was complete domination on all levels in this one. Pikevilleâs ball boy even had a better arm than Paintsvilleâs. I was very impressed with the Hensley and Raines kid. What in the heck was Paintsville trying to do with that offense?

How are sideline passes determined at the state finals?

No. There wasnât a worthy challenger in 1A. Fight me about that.

Pretty sure the schools take care of that

But Pikeville hasnât played nobody & Paintsville was gonna punch em in the mouth. Talk in circles much?

It was a 9-8 game the first time. That automatically makes Paintsville a worthy challenger in my book. Not to mention them barely getting by Raceland. They just wanted it more and got better every week. Period.

Everyone in Pikeville knew Paintsville wasn't going to control the LOS on either side of the ball.

Just because they ran through everyone in their path doesnât mean the teams they played leading up the finals were quality opponents. A healthy Paintsville, Raceland, or Williamsburg would have been in the finals of you replaced Pikeville with those teams. Yeah I was on here just screaming to the mountain tops Pikeville had no chance. Get real. You like to spout off about things I say in here but I have been very open about how good this Pikeville team was. That sentiment has been constant throughout the season. Go back under your bridge, troll.

Listen I am a Paintsville supporter through and through. However, Pikeville was the better team. Paintsville was also severely banged up heading into this game and that only made things worse. Pikeville was winning regardless.

It wasn't going to be close. Pikeville was just so much better at almost every position. Look at the TD run by Raines on Sports Center that was called back. Hole big enough to haul a double-wide through. Never going to be close, end of story. Men vs. boys.

Pikeville was 85% of the problem 10% was the injury bug taking its toll. 5% was Pikeville being there before and Paintsville had not (these players).

Fair enough.

Pikeville toyed with Paintsville and Raceland the first time they played them.
Just watching the film of how Pikeville game-planned for those two games versus the "emotional" games against Mingo Central, Belfry, and Ridgeview made it clear that Pikeville's staff knew they had a couple more gears under the hood. Whether they knew they may see those teams again or they were trying to keep their team grounded, either way, it seemed the playbook completely changed once it was time to get to nut-cutting time.
This was as good of a 1A team as we have seen in a good while. Pikeville was simply next level compared to the rest of the class once the staff chose to unleash them.

General consensus was Paintsville would dominate the line of scrimmage 100%.

I donât want to argue about it but in 1st matchup #8 was rattled and confused at times. Give Paintsville their due credit in that game. He matured, learned from it, and they rolled everyone going forward.
Plus I think this was one the weaker years for 1A, outside of Pikeville. Hazard wasnât where they had been, Raceland was slightly below their average, NCC didnât compete, Paintsville was good and had some strengths but this wasnât Chiricoâs best team.

Think it's more of just Pikeville just being much better come playoff time. Remind you of any team you may be fond of?

That was the general consensus of their 1st matchup. 2nd matchup, that is not the general consensus haha

3rd game starting and 1st road game wouldn't that be natural? He looked very poised accepting his MVP trophy at Kroger. Paintsville QB is good player but no comparison to #8. Again everyone everywhere saw what he was doing as timing got better and nobody was shocked by how he performed in the championship game.

Mac knows how to get his team to peak for sure... he is on an absolute roll right now and has Pikeville built for continued success for sure.
I still can't shake how different and more aggressive Pikeville's offensive game planning was in the games against bigger schools that had huge crowds and fanfare that they didn't have to worry about potentially seeing a second time. When Pikeville played all three it was like taking center stage. Against Paintsville and Raceland it seemed it was solely about relying on the D to get the job done and getting reps needed on O.
I felt like the first Hazard game was the first time Pikeville decided to flex their muscle and make a statement against a 1A team and boy did they.
I also don't buy that it was an especially weak 1A as someone just said. I think it was a pretty average year for 1A, and as evident by Paintsville's win, even if Beechwood was still in this class the result would have been the same. Last year was an especially stacked year in 1A so it isn't fair to compare.

This is going to be a fun offseason if this is how this is going to go. Never once did I compare the 2. Was just saying that Paintsville showed Pikeville their weaknesses and Pikeville went to work.

Good chance same two teams at Kroger next year.

Imo, looking back on this season in 1-A, even if all the teams you mentioned were on their best, the outcome would have been the same. Pikeville played some quality teams out of district and out of state in one of the toughest schedules in 1-A , all of which played a huge part in what we witnessed at Kroger Field Friday Dec. 6th. This team was just that good.

Said the same thing after the first Paintsville game and Raceland game. Coach Mac is no fool. He knew heâd see one or both of them later on in the year. He had enough confidence in his team to know they could grind out wins against them with a little more conservative game plan. He knew heâd better not show them all he had that early in the year.

Hereâs some numbers for the Pikeville didnât play anybody crowdâ.
The 2019 Panthers played and beat
7 Regional Finalists (Bardstown, Mingo, Paintsville, Belfry, Ridgeview, Nicholas Co., Holy Cross)
3 Regional Champions (Paintsville, Belfry, Holy Cross
1 State Runner Up (Paintsville)
1 3A State Champion (Belfry)
Iâd put that schedule up against anyone in the state in 1A-3A and feel pretty confident....

Iâm in a subset of the âPikeville didnât play anyone crowdâ they didnât play anyone in the playoffs that could beat them even if Pikeville played their âCâ game. Thereâs nothing they can do about that. I know that Pikeville schedules to get pushed in the regular season and because they know their district is weak (Hazard is typically a tough opponent).

Heard several Pikeville kids were lifting and running sprints yesterday after school. Time to get ready for next year!
