Pikeville vs. Paintsville (Class 1A Championship)
This is a state championship title thread. I am not feeding any trolls on here.
The BETTER PHS by 20 (Pikeville)

Party pooper. Lol

Haha I’ve been called worse

If we are being honest, you’ve deserved it sometimes! Lol
At least there won't be a "city" team for the refs to favor in this game.
I know there is a lot of cutting up and giving each other a hard time on here, I use to be one of the worst, but let’s not turn this thread into a shit show. The kids, both teams, don’t deserve it.
50% chance of rain for Friday. 5-10mph wind. Temperature should be 45-50 at kickoff.
Power run, shorten the game, stand in the huddle. Shut down the pikeville pass game. Reminds me of 2014. Taking the Tigers in a very close game

Que the Division 1 backfield rebuttal in 3...2...1...

Agree with all of that. I will even dig a notch deeper and say that you have to shut down the screen game that Pikeville is so good at. Make the QB hold the ball and let the pass rush go to work and just hope those deep throws are a tick off due to it. Easy to say, not so easy to do.

Nope, all I got is the Pikeville is playing at a higher level and is just better rebuttal...

Huh? Pikeville is playing.

Pikeville 42
Paintsville 20

Almost all of them have come out and said that Paintsville is a very good team, and they are, and there is no other team I would want to play in this game. If you want to beat the best you have to go through the best. In 1A in 2019 that happens to be Paintsville. Good luck to both well deserving teams and HAIL PIKEVILLE

RW first off, welcome to the site. I’m not sure you’ve read back through the comments but No, Pikeville has not given much credit. Nice to see you are though. It’s kind of been The theme with Pikeville fans every year. Good team at the start then their team is the only team in the state that gets DRASTICALLY better! Pikeville must be a Gosh Da@n Geographical Oddity!
PHSForever Wrote:Both schools have earned the right to play for the championship. We can argue forever about who had the tougher schedule, but in the end, as much as I hate to admit it (because of KCD) RPI got it right mostly. Still think Pikevilles schedule was tougher than KCD by a mile. Paintsville was about right in the RPI.

Pikeville’s middle schools schedule was better than KCD. KCD was slightly above average on offense and probably on par with Williamsburg defensively. The RPI simply got lucky. Basically if Paintsville beat either Hazard, Pikeville, or LCA, this matchup would not have been for the state title. Heck I would say that if Beechwood would have beat NCC in the regular season it would have bumped Paintsville over HC.

As someone who follows both teams I can tell you that the theme I have seen for years is that Paintsville peaks too early or just doesn’t improve as others seem to do. I believe whole heartedly that the two best and deserving teams made it to the championship. Two improved teams and totally different teams than earlier in the year are playing for it all on Friday. I do believe that Pikeville is a 2 TD better team but Paintsville has a chip and are tough and good at what they do.

But then we would have had the #1 seed and an easier road to state and y’all would have complained about that too! Lol.

All things considered, both Pikeville and Paintsville had roughly the same level of competition in the playoffs. Notice, I’m referring to overall. Hazard was tougher than anyone you played except Raceland. Williamsburg should not have been that close of a game for Paintsville. Ponder was going to get his yards, but everyone else basically should have been shut down by that massive defense of Paintsville.

I just hope our boys don’t get scared and turn in notes from their mommies to not play against the second coming of the 85 Bears defense. Lol

I don’t think you could have gotten any easier road to the finals. I’m not saying that to be a smartass but the seeding wouldn’t have changed who you play until the semi finals and HC or KCD were getting the same beat down.
Both teams have some kids from Prestonsburg, so I'll be pulling for each of those kids to have a great game Friday afternoon. I have a lot of respect for coach Chirico and a lot of folks who were anywhere close to those teams he helped with have a ton of respect for him too. However, I don't think Paintsville's offense is not going to be able to score enough in this one. They'll have to play keep away and eat up the clock and manage to force at least 2 turnovers to win this game. Pikeville has been here before, they know what to expect walking out on that field and in that environment. That plays a big factor and I think overall the Panthers have just too many weapons.

Pikeville wins, 35-21.
I hope for a good clean injury free game for both sides.
Wednesday Night! Just 1 more full day before Pikeville gets WORE SLAP OUT!!!

no way they hold Pikeville to only 7 points!! I can easily see Paintsville scoring the though.

Paintsville did hold them to 1 TD last time...Issac MacNamee has improved a lot since that first game....though Pikeville's OLine got beat pretty bad on the LOS in the first game and that was their main problem imo.
2000PHS Since you brought it up, who was the last D1 Pikeville player?
PHSFAN Wrote:Paintsville did hold them to 1 TD last time...Issac MacNamee has improved a lot since that first game....though Pikeville's OLine got beat pretty bad on the LOS in the first game and that was their main problem imo.

And yet not a single credited TFL on Paintsville stat page from that game. I’m not buying that Pikevilles O line got beat that badly. Reading back through the game thread, while there was some pressure, it appears that young Mac (3rd career start) faced a zone pass D after two games of man coverage. 2 INTs in the game but Pikeville forced 3 turnovers from the Tigers.
