Pikeville vs. Paintsville (Class 1A Championship)
PHSForever Wrote:You have transitioned to a power run, I agree. But there’s little to no threat of a passing game, which enables good teams to cover 1-1 and load box vs run. Being one dimensional can hurt. Let’s be honest here, your toughest game in the past 3 games was against Williamsburg. You had 53 rushes for 345 yards and 2-8 passing for 24 yards and barely escaped. That has to be a real concern. Pikeville’s balance in passing and rushing allows them to open the playbook a little more. I’m not saying it guarantees a victory by Pikeville but it definitely gives them more options.

What concerns me is we are playing a damn good football team Friday.

Pikeville is arguably the best team we have played this year (LCA) is the only competition to that title. Paintsville isn’t going to win by throwing it 30 times. However if they go 7-12 with 2 TDS due to winning 1 on 1 coverage/ blown coverage, then we have a legit shot.
Sounds like "The Greatest Show on Turf"! Lets not forget they where suppose to beat the brakes off The Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVI and all the Pat's did was come out as a team and beat the Rams and have never looked back! You guys act like This is Alabama vs Kentucky! Paintsville is going to win this game by playing good ole smash mouth football and playing great defense PERIOD!!! You can have the flash, I will take them team that has to fight for every victory and knows how to get off the canvas from a punch a deliver a blow! Get down in the game and see what happens to Pikeville!!!
Get down in a game we were down to Bardstown which is a very good 3A school and was down to Belfry and came back and won. Paintsville may line up and smash it down Pikeville’s throat but going into the game no way are they better at running the football than Belfry and especially at Belfry!!!! Belfry is better upfront on both sides of the ball and had a stud running back out but all 4 that played are better than what we will see on Friday. One thing no one is talking about is after losing a couple kids how many kids are going to be playing both ways for Paintsville on Friday??? It will make a difference in the game. Pikeville only has 76&62 that switch out some at DE but that’s it on both lines all others play one way.

Lord I was starting to think you had straightened out with the comment about the Patriot, then you hold to go off again. Yes Paintsville might win but both teams know how to take a punch and give one. Pikeville has the ability to get down and come back and they have proved it. I thought you were a expert in these things and watched all this film and I believe they were down in the Paintsville game. If you had watched the film you have known. But as always GO PANTHERS!!!

I think you make some very good points. Paintsville has a very good football team but they can’t beat Pikeville just running the football without a good passing game. If Belfry couldn’t do it, Paintsville won’t be able to do it either.

Wish both teams good luck and I’m looking forward to watching both Johnson central and Paintsville play at Kroger Field.
Paintsville will have to take away the quick screen game and force Pikeville to hold the ball in the pocket and throw it down field. Pikeville’s quick screen game is what makes the offense go in my opinion.

I think your spot on with this. Only shot they have to win this game in my opinion.
I agree with this! They do so in the first game by tackling very well! I don't think we did a good job of showing man and belling into a zone a came up and made the tackle! They will have to do the same Friday!
If Pikeville brings their A game then they win by a few scores.

If they don't bring their A game then Paintsville has a very good chance to win a state championship. As a lifelong Pikeville football fan I would be upset but at the same time I would be happy for my Paintsville friends, especially considering where their program was a decade ago.

Either way I'm flying out of Lexington Saturday morning for a couple days in Las Vegas...life is good lol.
Never trailed us in the first game and has not trailed in a bit! They have not been challenged in some time! It is great when you are up 36 nothing in the first half. We are just built different! We got down to the 1A champions 14-0 and came back and won! Got down to Raceland came back and won! Williamsburg came back and won! I see a theme here. Since we have went to the heavy set and can run with QB, which has hurt Pikeville in the films I have watched thus far! As I said running the ball and playing, great defense is what wins this chip
Guys I know field goals were an issue last game these two teams played. Obviously, it be a big factor in this game also. The goal post are 18 feet 6 inches wide compared to the high school goal posts which are 23 feet 4 inches wide. Just something to consider.

Never thought about that. Good insight!
Jake Hyden is going to have to play a special game for Paintsville this week. He has been inconsistent in the passing game this year and they really need him to make some big throws to loosen Pikeville’s defense up.
Suge you sure you are watching the right game film??? Lol Paintsville was up 8-6 at the half.

Been down before, it's nothing new. I understand that you are biased toward 22 and Paintsville, but quit acting like the Panther fans aren't giving credit. Almost all of them have come out and said that Paintsville is a very good team, and they are, and there is no other team I would want to play in this game. If you want to beat the best you have to go through the best. In 1A in 2019 that happens to be Paintsville. Good luck to both well deserving teams and HAIL PIKEVILLE

SugeAvery Wrote:Not to give my resume but been doing this a very long time! I’m sure our definition on domination is different! I think when a team shows the respect to run away from you is a certain level of domination or when they have to block you with 2 or more which he has all year long! I’m bias sure but also seen enough players to understand what I’m looking at not to mention playing the game for 20 years never hurts as well! Also I have no problem if I’m wrong about this game! I will say it loud and proud if I am!

Domination would be making plays no matter if they are running at you or away from you. Not saying he didn't have a good game but he isn't the sole reason they were in the game the first time. They played well as a team.
I think we would all do well to stop reminiscing on the first match up. Both teams played well at times and also made some early season mistakes. This match up is between two totally different teams than we saw on September 6th, and both teams deserve to be where they are and to play for the championship on Friday.
Anyone know the all time record between these teams?
MountainBall44 Wrote:Anyone know the all time record between these teams?

Pikeville is 52-33-3 all time dating back to the first game in 1925.
Scotty_Bronson Wrote:Well as many expected, it's an all east show down. It going to be this way for a while atleast in this alignment and system, unless NCC gets back to their early to mid 2000s form. This game comes down to one factor imo. Can Paintsville play the clock game, with long drives and score and still score enough to keep up with Pikeville? Neither team has had much issue in the playoffs outside of the 1st half against Raceland and KCD. Paintsville seems to have found something with the inverted bone, but Pikeville is quick as lightning and has atheletes all over the place. My head says Pikeville by 2 or 3 scores. But my gut tells me that the Tiggers play keep away just enough to keep it within striking distance. These two have battled down to the wire before and we have yet to see that role reversal in the playoffs from the past few years. Good luck to both squads, but I have to go with Pikeville in a closer than some may think battle.

Panthers 28
Tigers 18

36-34 win is an issue. They have not walked through the playoffs. Raceland or Williamsburg would have beat KCD handily. But I believe they were only the 3rd best team in the west. Holy Cross and New Cath were both better. Pikeville wins by 10.
Both schools have earned the right to play for the championship. We can argue forever about who had the tougher schedule, but in the end, as much as I hate to admit it (because of KCD) RPI got it right mostly. Still think Pikevilles schedule was tougher than KCD by a mile. Paintsville was about right in the RPI.
2000PHS Wrote:It has been a running theme on here the past 3 months that Pikeville has improved leaps and bounds and no other 1A team can play with them. Zero argument from me about them improving but so has Paintsville. Pikeville at least knew their identity on offense and what they wanted to be early in the season, they just needed reps. Paintsville kinda discovered who they were much later in the season and have embraced it. Who knows, maybe Pikevillle does run them out of the stadium, but I think it’s going to be an absolute war, punch and counter punches until the end.

Just for clarity when u say the game is going to be a war, counter punches until
The end are u referring to players on the field or are u referring to the paintsville arm band kicking coaches and tackling sideline alum!?? Just clarifying.

With all the competition between these two football teams, the excitement, anticipation, etc,. this should draw one of the highest attendance this weekend.
Would either team still be playing if Beechwood or Mayfield were still in signal A ??? I believe one would but which one? I guess that would come down to how the RPI seeded them!

Pikeville should win this game by a couple of scores but Paintsville has the athletes to bust long scores, if they do this it will keep the game close! If not your probably looking at a two score lead by Pikeville through most of the game with a score late to pull away! Both teams have had great seasons so whoever loses should still be happy for what they accomplished this season! These boys and fans have memories for a life time! We all should be proud of these young men......no matter what school you support we all should be proud of the product that these to schools and communities have put on the field this year!

PS this isn’t RamDad .....hehehe I stole his account hehehe

Well said! My son had the honor of being on both 2015 & 2018 teams so he experienced both sides of this game. We were just as proud of him both times, as well as all of his teammates for how they handled themselves. And will be proud of this bunch (many who were teammates last year also) regardless of how it works out. But in the end, I believe the Panthers pull it out. Won’t predict a score though.

Go Panthers!

Beechwood would not have beaten either Paintsville or Pikeville this year. Mayfield would be the clear favorite if in 1A.
