Belfry vs. Bell Co. (Class 3A Championship)
I expect this game to be the highest attended game of the weekend. Both teams will bring huge crowds.

Yet sadly KHSAA will continue to cater to Louisville and their beloved private schools. Friday should be great with all four teams being from the mountains.
Time to throw the schedules out the window. It’s one and done with all the chips pushed in come Friday. Anything can happen between the lines this time of year. You have two teams playing for the title.

Here’s how I see it. I’ve watched both teams. Bell co has some playmakers on offense that if not contained will make you pay. The QB can change the scoreboard quickly, more so with his feet then with his arm. He looks to run first pass second from what I seen. Bell will draw you in then hit you over the top of you get lazy or to aggressive playing the run. That’s kudos to Hilton and making the right play call at the tight time. Belfry will counter that with a very good defense, that is full of athletes that like to flat out hit. They play very fundamental and talk extremely well. Belfry just needs to keep everyone in front of them and keep playing D like they have.

Everyone in the state knows what Belfry is going to do offensively. The only problem with that is you have to have the horses to line up against it and be able to withstand the body blows all night long. It death by a 1000 cuts. They have backs that run extremely hard and with bad intentions, along with speed, speed and more speed. The offensive line is what makes Belfry click and they have gelled at the perfect time. Bell co will need to stop the fullback and be able to contain the edges. From what I have seen I just don’t think they will be able to withstand the pressure and stop the big running plays. Congratulations to both teams for making it to the finals. It’s going to be a fun week.

Imo Bell Co just played the 2 better backs in 3A this past Friday night. Who had speed speed speed. No doubt Belfry’s are fast but not as fast as these were at Taylor Co.

QB play will be the decider of this game and that will definitely go to Bell Co’s. Kid can run and pass the ball when need be.

Sores doesn't mean you are a better back and I promise you that Dixon will be the best back you’ve faced with Bentley and Hensley right there with him.

Does not spell good
You guys do know RB from Taylor Co has signed with EKU? Just wondering. People act like we haven’t faced anyone. Lol. Keep overlooking us. Our offense is sick. We are about to see how good Belfry’s d really is. Btw. Week 10. DeSales lost to a 3-7 team and Belfry barely beat them in double overtime.

And I promise you haven’t faced a QB as fast as London Stephney either. We can go on and on and on all week. But I won’t.

My post should have said Speed and somehow ended up with Sores. Anyway, people can talk all they want to. Bell is good enough to get to 14-0 and for that they deserve respect, but give Belfry the same schedule and they would be 14-0. So don’t underestimate the Pirates because they have 3 losses.
BTW, come Friday at 7 it doesn’t matter who you have battled the other 13 or 14 games. It matters who you battle for 48 minutes. I think Belfry wins by 2 scores, but Bell is good enough to pull it off too.
COACHITALL Wrote:Congrats to both teams for reaching the big game at Kroger! Bell has definitely sailed through their scheduled opponents with ease, but and yes that’s a big BUT they haven’t played a team in the likes of this Belfry team.
Bell CAN NOT stop Belfry’s rush attack period! No comparison in the Desales defense and the Bell defense, Desales is way better and they wore down the longer the game went. Bell has a great Offense but Belfry's defense will neutralize any game plan they approach this game with. Belfry has been battled tested and now it seems to be destiny.

For the record I want to hear Jimmy Rose sing the national anthem pre game and Country roads post game

Bell County should stay on Log Mountain because they have no chance in this game period!
I’m not saying Taylor Co didn’t have good backs. However if you are basing your predictions off the fact you stopped them then You better reevaluate. Taylor spent the season battling in their games, their backs played 4 quarters in a lot of their games and Taylor Co rode those two horses to the semifinals.

Belfry backs did not play in a lot of 4th quarter games, Dixon who will be the best back Bell has faced all year only played in 9 games and only carried the ball 73 times compared to Oliver’s 280. When you look at more than just the total yards and really dig into details you will see that all 3 of Belfry’s top backs average more YPC than Oliver, Oliver averaged a TD run every 9.5 touches, Dixon averages a TD every 7.3 touches, Bentley (a Youngstown State commit) every 7.6 touches and Hensley (who will be the most physical back you have seen all year) every 8.8 touches. Taylor had 3 backs go for over 100 yards this season, Belfry has 8.

Team wise Belfry has out rushed Taylor Co by nearly 50 yards per game in fewer games.

No doubt Bell faced a strong Taylor Co run game, but it was a traditional run game, I promise Belfry’s flexbone hydra will be on a whole different level and if Bell can’t take away the FB it will be game over early.

DeSales did have the players to line up defensively and contain Belfry. They had plenty of athletes and had great size. Offensively they had several plays called back because of penalties. Which is a lack of discipline, a Dudley Hilton coached team will not make those senseless penalties.

I don’t think anyone doubts that Taylor Co has good running backs. Anyone who knows football knows that it doesn’t start with the running backs. It starts up front with the guys in the trenches. Belfry’s offensive line started out young and questionable, it’s a complex blocking system that takes time to mesh. Well they have meshed and you combine that with the three running backs and a QB that all 4 run very hard and have the speed to take it to the house every play and it makes for a dangerous combination. Belfry has fooled around and started peaking the last three weeks.

I’m going with Belfry, more experience

Either team can win this game, but you guys that think you are way more physical and going to beat Dudley Hilton by 4 touchdowns in a championship game are wishful thinking. I'm ready for a big barbecue crow sandwich.

I agree and most of our fans and our coaches don't underestimate anyone and especially the Belfry's, Desales, CAL, and other teams just try to take care of business and leave it all on the field cause when the final horn goes of the what if's will second guess everything And Like I said nothing but respect for Belfry and Pond Creek here on Log Mountain !!
Bell also has The formula to beat Belfry, a smart QB and balanced offense, it will be a good game
Watched a couple Bell games and came away impressed and they actually slightly exceeded my expectations.

Stephany will be as good of an individual talent as Belfry has seen all year. He is truly dynamic and his passing ability is severely underrated. Keeping contain is paramount. Bell has two very good receivers with good size and great hands.

Baker is a solid back. Reminds me a little of Dustin May. Big back who runs hard. Maybe not as fast as May was. He can hurt you. The FB is what you expect from a Bell FB. Not the biggest playmaker but gets the job done and is a good lead blocker.

Bell’s Oline will be one of the bigger lines Belfry has seen. Not extremely athletic but big and strong and plenty capable.

Bell mixes up formations and mixes in tendencies. Lots of confidence in Stephany in the passing game and if it isn’t open he can tuck and run for N equally big gain. Pirate D is going to have to play fundamentally sound once more. You lose focus one time and Bell will exploit it.

Defensively, Bell has good size and plays hard nose but lacks a lot of speed. Expect them to make up for this by getting to create havoc. Linemen better get ready to be cut. Going to be a feast or fAmine night. If Belfry gets through the line big plays will be there to be had.

They have a really nice LB in #5. He reads plays wells and is a very sure tackler. Going to be a lunch bucket type of night with more trench warfare. Bell actually matches up better against Belfry than they would have against Desales on D. Desales would give them fits on the edge and against their secondary. Don’t expect it to be easy, but Belfry should make enough plays to score points.

Special Teams are pretty mediocre with the exception of Stephany as a returner. The teams are pretty equal here.

Overall, I think Belfry has a big advantage in team speed and a noticeable advantage in amount of total playmAkers. Bell has not seen a Defense comparable to Belfry and an Offense as physical as Belfry.

I think Bell will keep it tight. It will not be a walk in the park and I expect Bell to get their share of stops from loading the box.

It all comes down to keeping contain on D and making plays in the secondary against Bell’s deep passing game.

I like Belfry 34-22.

I would have to agree with buc. Dixon is the best back bell has seen this year, and probably the past couple.

On the other hand I would have to agree with bell, London is one fast guy at the QB spot with great vision when running
How good is Belfry's pass defense? I've noticed that a lot of teams that never pass the ball sometimes have trouble defending the pass.
From watching film on London Stephaney, does anyone else think he looks like a high school version of Lamar Jackson? Not saying he's gonna be the next Lamar after high school but just at the high school level with his speed and elusiveness?
pirateforlife Wrote:From watching film on London Stephaney, does anyone else think he looks like a high school version of Lamar Jackson? Not saying he's gonna be the next Lamar after high school but just at the high school level with his speed and elusiveness?

Not sure, but he can be tough to defend.

Dougie.....I agree. Game will be physical both ways. Should be a good old fashioned knock down drag out.
pjdoug Wrote:How good is Belfry's pass defense? I've noticed that a lot of teams that never pass the ball sometimes have trouble defending the pass.

It’s not terrible, they defend the deep ball well, Birchfield will make you regret throwing deep, Bentley is a good defender and hits really hard as well. Mounts and Ashurst provide great support from the LB spots. Where Belfry struggles has been the intermediate passing defense. Short quick passes get them off balance. At least that’s where Pikeville got them and where Pike Central was able to find some success early in their first matchup.
Bell in a close one.
