Seeding

I know I named just about every contender in 3A, but that is how the year has gone. No true dominant teams like Boyle and JC in 4a.

bucslover68 Wrote:Still a lot to be determined. Belfry can get a huge boost if they were to beat both Pike Central and JC. Tilghman and Bell and Ashland and Mercer with Desales and I still believe CAL are in the mix with Russell and Etown right behind. It is not anywhere as clear as 4a IMO. It makes my head hurt . Glasgow is another nice dark horse. They basically had South Warren beat. Bardstown played Pikeville really good for 3 qtrs at Pikeville and they haven’t lost since.
Can DeSales come East? I want to see them get their hind ends smoked in the mountains.

What are the tie breakers for seeding if 1 & 2 have clinched and teams 3-5 are all at 2-3 in the district with a win against each other and the winless team in 6th place?

KHSAA website will tell you under the competition rules for football. This thread is about the postseason. Not being mean. I am just pointing out where to find it. It can get confusing.

Ha ha. Yep if their RPI falls to where they are behind certain teams, then it could happen. For instance, they make the semis, but are the number 4 team overall and Bell is number 1. They would travel to Bell County. Not saying that is going to happen, but I’m just giving you an example where it could.

With the topic being seeding, I figured this would be the place to ask.

I am asking about something that would concern the postseason.....but thanks for pointing me in a direction, at least.

You’re right that does have to do with the postseason. Did you figure it out?

You know I'm trying to liven the crowd lol, but it would be interesting to see a team like DeSales come to the mountains to play a Bell or Belfry. Should be a good physical contest either way.

Not yet. I'd imagine overall record or RPI since they're so proud of it.

Can you imagine Desales coming to Belfry with Ty Scroggins as asst. coach?

I’d rather imagine them going to bell county and running Dudley back into the stands..... AGAIN. HAHA

But that would be a good game to watch at belfry. I’ve seen very little of belfry this year and not much more of desales. But this being on the pond, belfry comes out on top. IF Dixon is playing. If he’s not, I dunno. Kid is a game changer, and I don’t want it to look like I’m saying he’s the whole team, because he’s far from it. But definitely a difference maker!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I like the RPI because I tbink it’s a step in the right direction. About this same time last year people were complaining about cross bracketing, so someone will always be unhappy about how it is. But I’d like to see them use this system as a stepping stone to tweak and improve it. There is sooooooo much data out there now to use more than just RPI. Plenty of smart mathematicians that could come up with a good algorithm(s) to make sure we are not cheating these kids. But In the end, if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best, no matter where, no matter your rank I guess.

I agree with this Hound..

1. I think they should have taken at least a year and run a dummy RPI to try and improve it and make it more fair.

2. I do think the RPI in general is a good thing. Change is sometimes hard, but mixing things up is a good thing.

3. Having Dixon back is great for Belfry. He is indeed a game changer. He is also not the whole team per se, but I think having him back and getting Wolford healthy and having Mounts available soon takes Belfry from “lucky to get past the third round” to “we have a great opportunity to get to Kroger”

4. There is a whole lot of football left to play.

How will 2a brackets be for playoffs

Mr cold74 Wrote:How will 2a brackets be for playoffs

In 2a, I'll say the 8 teams left in round 3 will be Mayfield, Owensboro Catholic, Monroe County, winner of LCA/Somerset, Walton-Verona, Beechwood, Breathitt, and winner of West Carter/Shelby Valley. LCA and West Carter will be home team in the rematch. Those 8 teams will be seeded based on their RPI at the end of the regular season. Round 3 will be the west vs west and east vs east. After that, 4 teams will remain. The highest remaining rpi team will play the lowest and 2 and 3 will play with higher seed being home team. Winners will play at Korger field. Looks like lca/Somerset and Mayfield will be 1 and 2 as of now.

I have a question that I think will go along with his thread. I had a friend who is a ref and he indicated that the last two playoff games will have instant replay. I don't think he was pulling my leg when he was telling me. I haven't seen this pop up on any treads or website. Can any of you confirm this? Thanks

Can't Confirm it.

Don't believe it.

I would say the chance of this happening is slim to none.

If they start doing neutral sites in the 3rd and 4th Round you might start cracking the door for this to happen, otherwise wayyyyyy too many wildcards from the infrastructure standpoint.

I would venture to say half the stadiums in KY don't even have consistent Wifi capability, let alone the infrastructure for a replay system to be brought in that is clear enough to review the video quality. Additionally, where are they going to mount the cameras? You aren't going to get much use of a video on the top of a pressbox if you are trying to determine if a knee was down in the middle of the pile at the goal line.

The State Finals will be the first place it would be implemented. If they have a set list of pre-determined neutral sites that would be the only other possible option and even that would be a stretch.
#52
I had also heard something about the state finals would be the only place instant replay would be used for this year and the refs on the field or the coaches would not be the people responsible for seeing if a play is able to be reviewed. It will kind of be like college where the white hat has a headset on and probably someone that works in the khsaa who isnt a ref will let them know if a play is to be reviewed or not. Then the person in the press box will watch and see if the play stands or is reversed. No time soon will this be implemented in my opinion at high school simply because schools dont have the money to buy the necessary equipment to use it. It also wouldn't be fair for certain schools to have it and others not simply because one school could afford it and the other couldn't. This isn't going to be like any joe blow watching the game in the stands and the refs going over and looking a video on his cell phone to change a call. Since UK already has the equipment it I'm sure someone has been trained on using it and knows how exactly it's going to work.

Here are 2 links that should clear up some things on the instant replay issue. Apparently, it is now allowed at the NFHS level only for postseason play. Julian Tacket, the commissioner of the KHSAA, says that they are looking into it and have considered it but it will no be used this year. Also, if the khsaa uses it it will only be for the state finals.

Jack Lambert Wrote:I have been under the impression that the final 8 teams would be seeded statewide but I talked to one of Boyle’s coaches this afternoon and he said that the regionals would be seeded East and West and the final four or semifinals would be seeded statewide and he went on to say that the only way Boyle and Johnson Central would play each other would be in the semifinals and if Boyle wins their final two games it would be played at Boyle County, he also said the seeding stops at the end of the regular season.

Is this the way everyone else see’s this playing out.

I talked to coach again and proposed the question what if Boyle and JC wound up 1-2 seeds and he thought about it and he said that the East would host both semifinals which is what a lot of y’all proposed, I think in our original conversation he must have been talking about Franklin winning out and remaining the 2 seed That’s why he said Boyle and JC would meet in the semifinals and I must have misunderstood him just wanted to clear up what I originally posted.

Gotcha Jack. Only way Boyle and JC meet before Lex ,if Boyle is 1 overall, is if JC falls to 4th in the east for the quarterfinal round which is virtually impossible or if they are 4th come semifinal time which is also unlikely. Either game would be at BC, but I just don’t see it happening.

We scrimmaged South Warren and wasn't that impressed. Not sure it carries the weight of recent years? (For what its worth)

Johnson Central has taken over the #2 RPI ranking in 4A sonthey will host all the way thru the playoffs (first four rounds) as will Boyle Co....provided they both keep winning.
