13th Region summer Ball
JayTiger Wrote:If I'm Jackson County I would love this everybody putting Clay , North , Obi as the top 3 front runners for the 49th district. I seen Jackson this summer and they are a dangerous team and (No) body better go in over looking them. They have probably the best shooter in the 13th region n dropped about 45 points on OBI in district last season and they have another good shooter also is a junior guard Akemon and they have a sophomore that's about 5-10 that plays inside the ark n drives the ball as good as I've seen over summer ball and plays like a 6-4 kid. I never seen him on the team last season but somebody said he was a transfer in maybe came from Clay they thought but wasn't for sure. I'm telling you the 49th district could be the hardest district in the 13th region this season and could go 4 teams deep and which ever 2 teams come out could make a run for the region title. I think the region will be very interested this season.

So are you saying that Clay County lost a kid to Jackson County this year? First I heard of this?? Or hear say like everything else!!
Clay has pretty much everyone back. I don't think it was anyone who played there in the last few years.
Jackson looked a little down when I saw them in June at Barbourville.
I don't know for sure if he's from Clay I just seem them play at barbourville also this summer and they came back down 15 at halftime and done a 30 point turn around and won by 16. They where a kid playing as three guard looked out standing with the two guards Jackson had last year and never seen him on the team last year when I seen Jackson play and some body said he had played at Clay county but he's only a sophomore. So I don't know if he's a true transfer from Clay or not but I do know the kid can play n looked very impressive. I'm sure Jackson is going to go thru trials just like everyone else is but I'm just stating for the future n with Jackson history they looked to me as a dangerous team in the 49th and do not over look them. Everybody is putting the heat on Clay , North, OBI now we all have stated Clay has been the best for the last 2 yrs and they haven't even made it out of the district and it's the same team same coach's minus one new assistant and I don't think that will change anything at Clay until some of this group graduate n Glenn leaves. I've been a Clay fan for 25yrs and I've never seen Clay as bad as they've been the last 3 yrs and I see no future at Clay until they are multiple changes made.
But we will get to see straight out of the gates I guess. Clay plays OBI first game of the season and a young Jackson county team takes on a mature South Laurel team first game of the season. I guess these coach's ain't holding back and playing to build more for post season than regular😉
I forgot also we are talking only 3 n 4 teams in the district but being honest better count on 5 teams deep in 49th. Red Bird has also the same team back from last year with a total new coaching staff that knows the X's and O's and who knows what they've got coming in with all these exchange students program red Bird has started. But we all can assume but Dec-1 will get the real game started and the 2019-2020 season under way.
Jackson co is as mature as they come if khsaa is updated, 13 of 16 kids are jr's or sr's
This region is wide open. It will be who gets hot at the right time.
The region is definitely wide open. Bville looked to have some very good talent during summer ball.
Barbourville seems to never have a bad team. They have a good smaller school program. I haven’t heard much about Knox this offseason.
Seen where OBI has lost one of their starter's from last season. Don't know the situation that is going on but seen where Preston was no longer with OBI and he (Preston) had stated he was going to really miss his OBI family. I'm assuming he must had broken a school rule or something and is no longer enrolled in OBI. He was a big contribute to OBI last season.
He would not have played this year from what I’ve been told. But he has left obi.

Saw him play last year, he played pretty well. Shot and handled the ball well. Speaks volume to talent OBI has if he was not going to get to play. Where did he go ? Clay or Leslie ?

What does that mean?
He was the fourth leading scorer last year and was listed as a returning starter.
I’d say that means he would t have played anyways. One of the coaches said that he would have been 8th man this year
I thought it meant you were saying he wasn't good enough to play, but I wasn't sure. It's always classy to take a shot at a player after he leaves. He was still great during the off-season.
The conversation started out with him being a big contributor, an I plainly stated that I was told he wasn’t going to get to play much 8th man. Not taking a shot at a kid. Wish the kid the best. But I was just answering a point.
Who are the seven ahead of him?
Nothing was said about him being demoted from fourth to eighth until he left.
I’m not sure who they are. The coach didn’t say. But I would assume the two new big kids would move in front of him. Plus woods and onhuana spelling, Estep would have been I would think. The other two I wouldn’t have a clue.

I would think the Soph: you mentioned in a former post. Frost and Goodwin would be other 2.
So Preston started last year and played really good this summer and helped them have success. Then he leaves the team and he would not have got to play anyways. How do you know who is going to play with new players and a new coach? Don’t you earn that in practice?
Good question. I’m just friends with one of the coaches. That’s what he is saying from the open gyms and workouts they are doing.

If I had a team in the top three in the region, I'd know more than three names. Is Simpson one of the big kids? The kid from Clay is the other, I guess, but he played guard when I saw him three years ago. Maybe he's taller now.
The other two names I got from the summer were Hamilton Taropo and Isaiah Marcum. Are they still playing? Frost barely played last year.
Simpson is a big kid. Hall is 6-3 he’s the other big kid. Frost made the biggest improvement this summer from what I saw. Marcum started for them early in the summer before he went home. But with that being said I’d say the head coach is the only one that has any idea of who will or want play. An I’d say he want k ow for sure u til practice gets good and started. But I was told from a coach that in open gyms there were 7 kids out performing Preston. Which speaks volumes to the depth and potential of Oneida.
I've seen OBI in action over the summer and also through post season last yr. Yes OBI has got a lot of talent returning but they also showed last post season and summer ball that they are lacking defense and defense. You can have all the talent in the world but if their is no composure or heart their then at the end you still come up short end of the stick. I've read n read all about all this talent that OBI has and how people are assuming their going to go top 5 or 3 in the region. With new coach and the team they have with new kids OBI still be lucky to break above 8 and the season will prove it. You can't build a franchise over summer and in one season just my opinion... I wish OBI good luck . The other hand regardless what coach is stating on the other hand out side of the gym as you are speaking some assistant coach is keeping you up dated on quote( Preston kid is a very good athlete and can play ball. And YES he will be missed at OBI this season and YES he would have made a difference in OBI this season) that being said I've also seen OBI in action with their new kids and I don't think Preston would have been no 8th man off the bench either. If that assistant coach is up dating you that then the head coach needs to look already in replacing his help because their already in trouble.🤕🤕🤒🤡🤡

The Hall kid will take mid season to close post season to get back in the groove and in shape (condition) where he can run the floor like he needs to be and be a contender on the floor. He possibly could be your 6 the man .

I agree on 3 things you said. 1 Last season OBI played zero def. that has to change. 2 Preston would help them, he is a very good player 3. I would not want a ASST. Coach who was blabbing about kids and practice. Might add no one knows much about this New Coach, only he was at OBI once and had very little success. Time will tell. :dontthink
I would say the head coach knows what the assistant is saying if I were guessing. Highschool basketball isn’t about making a franchise if that was the case Clay would have been in region the last couple years. With that being said. From my understanding hall has lost a lot of weight already and will be ready when season starts at clay.

Knox is taking a big hit with Turner being out with another arm injury during football. Hopefully he will recover before basketball starts. Bville has some size with Vaughn, Moore and Gray. They are all 6'3 or better. That should be a good game to watch come January.
