Paintsville's first state tournament appearance since 1990. Before you say I'm wrong, Paintsville did play in the Sectionals vs. Boyd County in 2001, but that was not the actual state tournament. Only eight teams from across the state made it to the actual state tournament before the format was changed that all sixteen regions got to compete at the state tournament.



JC made way too many errors early in the game and Paintsville was able to capitalize and gets some runs.

I'm pretty sure the Sectionals (or Semi-State) were considered the "State Tournament" first round games back then. The KHSAA ran them, not like host schools in District or Regionals.

Just went back and checked the KHSAA Scoreboard and in 2000/2001 Paintsville played in the State Baseball Tournament. So this is not their first trip since 1990.

As I said previously, the KHSAA ran the Semi-State tournament.....not a "host" school. So, even though it was played on host sites, it was considered part of the "State Tournament".

I think announcer meant they hadn’t been to the state tournament in baseball since 1990 which probably is correct.

Directly from the 2018 KHSAA State Baseball Tournament media guide. Direct your attention to the highlighted area outlined in red. The KHSAA says 28 years, some people are saying 17 years... either way, you won and are making the trip this year.

I've been waiting on the media guide to be released so I could say I was wrong or have the evidence to show I was correct.
