Ha ha. Took them all didn't they. Don't feel bad Morgan county's best two sophomores now play for Johnson Central too.

Belfry last played what I would call a local WV team in I think 1992, when they played Logan. Throughout the history of the school Belfry often filled their schedule with those close WV teams, Logan, Matewan, Man, Williamson. They last played Man in '87, Matewan in '80, the aforementioned Logan in '92 and Williamson in '88.
Mingo Central is the continuation of Williamson in eyes of many in the area. By the time the two teams stopped playing in '88 Belfry had beaten Williamson every year from 1975-1988. From 1984-1988 Belfry outscored Williamson 254-18. Williamson was no longer a helpful game on the schedule, add to that the fact that from what I have been told the games began to get really chippy each year. I don't know how far it escalated maybe someone older than I can give that info. Would Mingo Central and Belfry draw a big gate, absolutely. Would it be a competitive game, maybe. Would it be worth risking the reopening the old rivalry wounds that caused all that junk in the first place, most definitely not

The game isn't played because Philip Haywood can't stand Yogi Kinder. That simple.

Pikeville always plays a tough out of district schedule, and continuing that in the future by scheduling Mingo Central should be beneficial for them. As stated in another thread, win or lose it would be good experience.

Mingo Central vs Belfry is the obvious game in the Pikeville/Pike County area that should happen and also be a annual rivalry in my opinion.
Pikeville vs Pike Central and Pikeville vs Shelby Valley would be great rivalry games also if they were competitive games. Unfortnately they would be much like the Belfry vs Pikeville series has been the past 20 years...very one-sided

That's been the problem with scheduling the two schools. Really no competition for Pikeville. Pikeville/Mingo Central game could be as beneficial as the Belfry/Pikeville game. Btw, i agree Mingo central and Belfry should schedule, jmo.

This game will absolutely not happen while Coach Haywood is the Belfry HC. I know everyone is looking for something to talk about here in the off season.....but this is a moot point. Not......Gonna.......Happen. Obviously Coach Haywood has HIS REASONS for not scheduling the game. Unless he...and only Him has a change of heart.....There will be no game. Whether anyone agrees or disagrees with his rationale.....whatever it is....is of no consequence. All the man has done is win 6 State Championships and is top 25 Nationally in All time Wins. Iâm thinking heâs earned the right to decide who he plays....on his own terms. Let it rest.

Nothing critical of Haywood. Matters not to me if he ever plays them. just sayin it should be a good game that's all.

Although it should happen but it is Haywood’s decision, so in the meantime nobody is allowed to speak of it. Move along.

Pikeville should never play Pike Central or Shelby Valley. I would like to see them to play Union, VA. I went and watched their semifinal game on a Saturday afternoon in Big Stone Gap and it was awesome.

They are 2A. Real good 2A too. Their calpreps final rating would put them at 25th overall in KY, just ahead of Belfry.

Why should it happen??? Is this a Jedi mind trick?? Do u know all things Belfry? Do you have some additional layer of understanding regarding the dynamic that apparently exists? If you do....then share it. Iâm guessing you donât. If thatâs the case....then all Iâm saying is......this is Coach Haywoodâs decision. Please try to refrain from potentially snide comments toward the fanbase or actual players involved in potentially said game. Inevitably.....when this question comes up....it always boils down to the âfan base is too scared to play.....the kids are too scared too play....the. coaches are too scared too playâ. When in reality....the decision is made by Coach Haywood ....and him alone. Please donât take my post as singularly referencing you. Not intended that way. But the vitriol that has come from this issue Between the fan bases is very real.

Who cares really, it’s the off-season, talk away guys. I for one would like to see that game, 10 Times out of 10 Belfry wins, but we may never know. Or then again we may. Who knows. One thing for sure, no one on this board knows for sure

If he changes his mind.....iâll Buy your ticket to the first game

Williamsburg vs. Oneida (TN). Both have good-to-excellent traditions, travel well, are virtually the same size, and are only 32 miles apart. No idea why the folks at OHS dropped the series.
Whitley County vs. Campbell County (TN). Virtually same sized schools that are 40 minutes apart on I-75. Campbell County used to have a terrible program, but is now a consistent 7 or 8 win team. Good measuring stick, short travel, and could develop into a nice cross-state rivalry with being an easy drive for fans when the interstate isn't jacked up coming across Jellico Mountain.

I agree that both Williamsburg and Whitley County should play the East Tennessee teams. teams such as Anderson County, TN and Oak Ridge would also be good matchups for Whitley County.

Boyle Co. and Huntington Wv. Both fan bases travel well, and have a lot of pride. Good tradition between both schools

I agree with Williamsburg/Oneida and Whitley County/Campbell County, but most years Oak Ridge or Anderson versus Whitley would be a mismatch.

I think Whitley vs. Williamsburg and Williamsburg vs. Corbin should be played annually also. Would be good gates and play good teams and wouldn't have to travel. Yeah, Williamsburg would be an underdog w/ both, but every couple of years it would be good games. I also agree about playing in Tn too. I've heard where Tn starts earlier that it creates scheduling conflicts somewhat?
