Iron Horse Wrote:I observed Johnson Centrals schedule a few minutes ago. They may have one of the toughest schedules I have seen in a while. If they can get through the schedule injury free it should prepare them well for a long run in the playoffs. I expect to see this team back in the state championship game. Looking at their roster I still think QB is a big question, hopefully they have been working with one in the offseason. The running backs probably being the Jackson kid and not sure about the other. They look like they have their fullback coming back. I believe the offensive line will be much improved as well.
It doesn't look like a lot will change on defense they didn't lose a lot, they have two really good linebackers that could play at the next level Wilcox and Tyler Patrick.
I have the complete history of every JC football season..... believe me when I say this, on paper, this is the HARDEST JC football schedule in school history.

I haven't really had a lot to do with Johnson County athletics until about 4 years ago. I know a lot of people in the program and around the program. I can tell you about Lawrence County tho haha.
I just know JC does things right and is a program others should follow if they want to be successful.

Hard to predict the W/L record for the upcoming season.... I am gonna predict JC wins the district again this year and is home throughout the playoffs.

I do not know what the W/L record will be either but this is a brutal schedule. Capital is a state contender every year among the big schools in WV.
Lexington Cath. We know they are pretty darn good.
South Charlston is one of the above average teams in the state as well.
Ashland will always be Ashland
Belfry will always be Belfry.
There is no thing for sure if you want to see a physical hard hitting football game, JC will be the place to be on Friday nights.
JC is always physical and so are these teams that I mentioned.

I think capital toss up
Lexington Catholic win
George Washington toss up
People think I'm crazy Harlan county didn't lose a lot this will be close game
Ashland home two touchdowns win
belfry unless something changes loss
Could be 6/4 going into the playoffs
Or 9/1 loss belfry but capital a huge game to brake in New running backs and quarter back could be long night ,
If I not mistaken I think George Washington and capital are 3 year contracts

When these kids were in the 8th grade the JC and Belfry game was the best middle school game I had ever seen JC will be good this year and this schedule will help them for the playoffs

I don't understand why it as taken Johnson Central so long to play a competitive schedule. Overall, their district is a cake walk, with the exception of Ashland. I think if Central played this type of schedule in the past, it would have better prepared them to make a title run, when playing teams such as Highlands. Hopefully, this schedule will better prepare them for another run at a championship this year.

I hear it all the time from the Breathitt County fans.... and seeing how Cat Daddy is an Expert on Breathitt County football from their glory days......
So Cat Daddy, what teams did Breathitt County play in their state championship seasons that prepared them to win in week 15?

Didnt JC play Boyle Co, and Louisville Central in the last as will? Not to mention Belfry
That's decent competition if you ask me.

Pulp Fiction Wrote:I am going to say this as diplomatically as possible....
The districts (4A & 5A) JC has been in over the past eleven years has been weak.
The only district teams JC have lost to are Ashland & Woodford County, and that was in different seasons.
So when you are playing 4 or 5 district games a year, the majority of the quality games are at the beginning of the season. Playing not-so-quality teams closer to playoff time isn't a good combination.
To JC's credit, we have played some quality teams (Boyle County X2, Louisville Central, Bell County X2) in their state championship season, or one season removed when the contract was signed. As well as Belfry the past 3 season in their 3-Peat state title run.
South Warren had much better team speed and had more athletes (not so much better players) on the field than we did last year in the state finals. It was a great learning experience for our players and coaches.

I have been hearing JC had a huge turnout last night with 70 plus players.
07-13-2016, 03:43 AM
Does JC sell season tickets? If so, are they reserved? Looking to go to some games this season, but hate having to get there an hour early to get a decent seat.
07-13-2016, 04:09 AM
That is a plus, JC have huge crowds on Friday nights. I drove over and watched practice from my car this evening. Wow are they big and seem very athletic. The lineman was participating in drills on my end of the field. These kids look like college students out there. It is going to be a good year for JC I believe.

The chair backed seats can be bought on a reserved basis.
Not sure of the price or when they are available.

While going over a few of our upcoming opponents' HUDL pages there are several players with some nice offers that will roll into Johnson County this year.
Capital has a guy named Dorian Etheridge at the OLB spot. Some of his offers include: Pitt, Purdue, Maryland, WVU, Virginia Tech and Louisville.

Not to be outdone, South Charleston will bring in a guy at the SS position named Derrek Pitts. Currently has around 19 offers from some big name schools, including: Oklahoma, Clemson, Auburn, Florida, Louisville, Nebraska, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, WVU and so on.

Then you have the entire line from Belfry rolling in to close out the regular season.

Hopefully they will make through the regular system without any injuries. If so, I look for them to at least get back to the State Semi's. Wayne County returns a lot, but JC's will have them well prepared for that rematch (if Wayne stays healthy and doesn't get upset). Personally, I would live nothing more than to see both Johnson County Schools in Bowling Green. I called it last year on Spikes first call-in show, just came up one game short. Hopefully this year will be a different outcome.

Can someone tell me the name of the lineman everyone is talking about around Johnson County?

Would have to be Dawson stalker defense tackle junior class this year, I'm pretty sure he's 6/4 300 pounds
07-16-2016, 12:26 AM
No I know who the stalker kid is. The kid I heard about this morning was an Offensvie Tackle. I over heard some older men talking about how good this kid was and how much muscle he has put on in the off season.

Tyler Patrick most likely. He's just a big, strong country boy as is his brother Devon. Tyler is squatting over 5 and benches right around 380. We have a lot of kids putting up some nice numbers on the bar.

Yes, Patrick was the name that I heard.

Since JC doesn't seem to have an established QB, what's the chances Matney might try Joe Jackson at QB and run the spread? With his speed, it might be interesting.

I have watched the Jackson kid a lot in the past 3 years. The kid is for real. He has a rare combination of power and speed. Does anyone know what he weighs now ? He looks to be about 5'11 or 6ft.
I think if he can stay healthy we will be the best running back in Eastern KY as a sophomore. I know that is a BOLD statement but before you disagree go watch that kid. He can go over, around and through defenders.
