Williamsburg's Coach has been let go
#61
Don't see a lot of post about this being a great hire. Don't see a lot of comments one way or the other. Got to assume most don't care about the hire or most don't care about Williamsburg Girls Basketball. Gut was right all along, good call.

I think all involved care about the girls program...They had 3 pretty good candidates that interviewed but for one reason or another it just didn't work out, one in particular left them standing at the alter one might say...I think some panic set in, anyway best of luck to Coach Crider...

Couldn't get what they wanted. Most likely should have kept Vermillion.

I agree with Gut, should have kept Vermillion. To fire her and hire someone with no Coaching experience makes no sense at all. Not Smart.:HitWall:

I think they were set on dropping her no matter what happened, and hoped for the best.
From what I was told about who applied, they had several good candidates apply, but out of the top 3 I know, it just want the right time.
To be honest, I think this is a one year hire. Unless he just has a remarkable season, which is unlikely, then I think we'll have another one of these threads next year.

I think you're right. In reality, they were determined to let her go. Wouldn't have mattered if she'd won Region both years. She wasn't a puppet.

She didn't win the Region both years she won 6 and 8 games. Give the new guy a chance. Everyone has to start somewhere

ok, "just sayin", that wasn't the case either!! Vermillion was not getting it done in other areas. The demise wasn't on coaching alone... at least word on the street is. School wanted her to work out! I think all involved wanted her to work. From what was said, the school couldn't continue down that path. Crider is young, willing to put the time in, understands that he has to learn too and is willing to do so. My opinion, it won't be a bad hire, if he is given the reigns to do what he wants..... This team is young and both coach and player will grow together!!!

You got one part right. He has to learn, and I think he will but it will not benefit this group of kids by the time he learns they will be out the door. I hope he wins every game they play that being said they will be hard pushed to match last season number of wins. JMO:eyeroll::eyeroll::eyeroll:

Sounds like you are awfully close to this situation "baller1989". "Young, willing to put time in," Crider is older than Vermillion.... "Given the reigns to do what he wants" that's not going to happen. "just sayin"

"Not everything you read or hear is true. Yet if you're drinking the same KoolAid, I bet everyone sees things your way. It's easy to say "Vermillion wasn't getting it done in other areas" sure, let's say that. I'd say go talk to the former students, parents, and teachers that had those students after she taught them. Otherwise, it's slander.

I'm just stating my opinion on something. Not bashing the new coach, just don't like the way things have played out. Not a fan of the "good ole boy" system.

farthest from the truth "just sayin", I have no dog in the fight. Just all hear say and not spreading what hasn't already been stated. seems if you know crider is older than vermillion, then you are pretty close to the situation? I didn't know that!! I wouldn't know either's age nor care. I was merely stating that crider is young and will grow with the program. I wasn't reflecting to vermillion's age at all. WE WILL NEVER KNOW & shouldn't if the schools are doing their jobs and keeping it amongst the school. That is what they should do!! But, I'm mainly stating that, give this guy a chance and see. he seems to have a good head on his shoulders and willing to do what he can to make the program better?

Even so, only thing this thread has talked about is coaching. Anything else should stay away. It's not my business, just stating my opinion. It'll be great if they'll let him grow and not start these same low rumors as you've stated people have said about Vermillion, I'm sure he will do fine in the allotted time he has.

Past is gone. Good Luck to New Coach, Good Luck to every kid on this team, you deserve the best. My Granddaughter will be playing at McCreary but I will be to watch Williamsburg Girls play some games. Good Luck.

I would think several kids would be looking for someplace else to play.:eyeroll:

I never understood why a parent would let a kid leave just becuase they didn't like who the coach was. Parents need to tell their kids they won't always like who's in charge, but dealing with it now will help them deal with it later. I hope all their kids stay.

I don't see a mass exodus this year...

Sounds to me like Williamsburg made a good choice, with a long term rather then a short term view.

Should be every parents right to move kids where they feel they will get the best Education possible and the best chance to succeed on a team. Anything less and they are not doing their own child right. You wrong about Cherokee he has been at the same job many years and is a Supervisor.:yeah:

I agree that each parent should make decisions they feel are best. I disagree that moving a child to a team give them the "best chance to succeed" is doing their "child right." We should teach our children that external circumstances don't determine success - personal actions do. at least that's my opinion. As i said before, i hope that all the kids stay there. But it's not my school, so whether the team wins or flops has no affect on me. I have a sore spot because my school loses so many kids.

Every parent should put their kid in a position to be successful. I hope all the local kids stay at Williamsburg and they win every game. If your school is having a mass exodus of players look at your Coach or Administration that is where your problem lies.

Cellking you are right don't be a "SETTLER" do what's right for your kid.
Kids are only in high school 4 years and it should be one of the best times of their life's. If the kids are dedicated to a sport and are not happy and you are not comfortable with the system don't be like a bunch of hypocrites that set in the stands and bitch about the team, coach or the school then put on the happy face around people. Don't try telling parents what they should or should not do with their kids if you have any tend to their needs, I may be called a lot of things but you can't call me a settler.Confusednicker:

What's right for your kid, is what best teaches them how to be a participant in and excel in the real game of life after school. bailing because you don't like the "system" doesn't do that. Kids used to be tough minded and able to battle through difficult things. Now they run home and tell mommy and daddy they aren't enjoying it the way they should.

i agree that fixing problems is a big piece. that's to me what it sounded like Williamsburg was doing - i hope knox is in the process of doing the same
#84
If the team you are one is winning four or five games a year I doubt there is going to be a recruiting war over the players who leave.

So you think to fire a Coach with 2 years experience and hire her Asst. Coach who has no experience is fixing the problem. :biglmao: More like she has to go at all cost to heck with the kids or anyone else. JMO

I totally disagree, playing high school basketball Is a year round commitment with summer ball, AAu, pre season conditioning, fundraising, and let's not forget the regular season, and a couple Xmas tournaments. When your asking people to make this kind of commitment, I believe the administrations should be willing to make the same instead of playing politics.

This hire was clearly not about politics. Believe they could have done better. But will support him
Just like I did the last 5 coaches before this one.
