You're right it is a joke that Whitley has less kids than Corbin. I did the math Corbin gets about 20.5 percent of its male students to play football, Whitley gets 11.5 percent. It was said earlier that the number of kids who quit after middle school was huge. Those kids don't transfer, they quit. Quit worrying about the 5 kids from oak grove each year that live in tattersall and are going to Corbin in middle school no matter what. Worry about the 15 that decide for one reason or another that they no longer want to play. Your best football team is walking the halls.

football fever forget it. I totally understand and you are absolutely correct. People have no clue what you are telling them. They look at square miles and think that should equal more players. But while we are on the subject Whitley had around 60 for spring ball, Corbin ?. Some of you get caught up in a numbers game , it looks great in warm ups. Walking halls ? You have no clue what you are talking about. It makes me laugh when people say these things.

footballfever Wrote:Corbin enrollment average for 12-13 and 13-14 was 413 boys. If KHSAA had of used 2 year number instead of 4 Corbin would have been 4A. Whitley's 2 year average was 574. I do understand 161 more boys is about 28% more. The thing you and many other don't understand is Whitley is trying to pull these boys in from a 15-20 mile radius of the school and Corbin is pulling from a maybe 3 miles of the school. Corbin should get a higher % of players out. If you look at rosters of all 5A schools in the state Whitley's will be above the average.
Fever is a smart man...

I don't look at square miles I look at enrollment. Any team who competes should get at least 15% to 18% of their male enrollment. Bottom line is that if the kids are coming out for middle school ball they should also be coming out for high school ball. Everyone loses some, Whitley loses most.

The point they both proved is, they don't understand!!!!

Info for those that question.
2013 Blacks last year, Whitley finished year with 39 players
2014 Whitley finished year with 54 players
2015 last year finished year with 65 players
I look at that and say they are working on exactly what some say is the problem, and making substantial progress.

Whitley is doing a great job of getting kids out to play right now, and for the most part coaches are sharing the athletes. That is one hurdle that they have overcome.
Everyone is talking about geography, well look at it this way; from where Corbin's practice field is there is hardly a place that a player could not walk home to quicker than it takes many of the Whitley kids who have to ride the activity home, AND that only drop off on the main road. Many kids don't want to ride a bus home for up to an hour or more AFTER football practice. Footballfever knows of what he speaks.
Recruiting the halls is an old song from a broken record. Once again is not like the coaches are not trying to get kids out. When you sing that old song it is one of two things 1. you are ignorant of the true situation or 2. you are trying to stir the pot for no reason.
Some people who have no knowledge of the what goes on or even the difference between a HB or LB are always trying to say they know how to fix the problem.
Things are fine in the Colonel Camp and nobody is sugar coating anything, if people were around and made an effort to better the program rather than asking open ended questions in an lame attempt to place doubt while all the time claiming to know how to fix it, things would be much better.
Get some help for your fixation on Corbin, or buy some Redhound gear but daggum get over it one way or the other. Better yet jump on the Bell bandwagon!!

Back on point............
So now that school is almost out, our attention turns to passing camps and 7 on 7 stuff.
With all the strides made by the Colonels in the off season, it will be important to find their stride offensively with the loss of Luke Woods. This will be an important time of the off season.

Fair enough. They have made progress and hopefully it will continue. I'm a Corbin fan, but I still root for Whitley.

I agree and can see the progress. This is why I said I hope the coaches are in it for the long haul. I think you have things headed in the right direction and not trying to insult at all

Dylan Wilson should do fine at running the offense

To further prove my point that schools who draw from a smaller area have higher % of participation.
Wburg 125 50 40%
Pville 85 32 38%
Harlan 113 34 30%

It is no accident that small 1A city schools are in the top. It is easier for the city schools to get and keep players out. It is also telling that the large County schools are near the bottom. Some of those kids have to travel up to an hour just to get to school.

now list the players from areas such as McCreary County,North Laurel and South Whitley that played for schools such as Corbin,Williamsburg and Somerset. There's a long list of recruits so don't pretend there are none

You list them all knowledgeable one. I don't know who they are and it has nothing to do with it.

There's a long list and I don't have to list them all. other people can play dumb ,but they know who they are too.it has EVERYTHING to do with it.pretend all the players come from within the city limits all you want, but some people know better.

I think he means , we are talking about enrollment in schools verses roster on a team. Not just here ,but all over the state. They are recruits, but the few they are will not change %.

Belfry got 18% last year and Boyle county got 23%. Both are county schools and both have a large area to get players from. Both are also elite teams.

According to this post it's not too hard to get players from out in the county to play. Corbin, Williamsburg and somerset don't seem to have any problem.

A little cheese with that "whine" don't worry about the "recruits" they don't change any numbers. Once again an old song from a broken record. The numbers Footballfever posted don't lie, coach up the ones you have and play it out on the field.
Seriously what is next.....the old tried and true "Oh Yeah??!?!?!?"

I haven't crunched the numbers but I would be willing to bet your smaller school enrollment on average (1A - 3A) have larger percentages of kids out than the larger schools(4A- 6A). It's only logical with a smaller enrollment to be able to have a higher percentage of players. I concur with your argument and the difficulty of these rural schools trying to get players out that are spread across the county. If you look at your data above and in my opinion the vast majority of the state (there will be outliers) the percentages correlate to the class in which the team participates.

I think a lot of it has to do with team and tradition. Corbin and Somerset have always been a football school first. Some of the others mentioned are not. Not every school has a tradition like some mentioned.
