Per WYMT: Rhodes will not coach at Cordia next season
#31
A few of these kids may end of at Hazard I heard.
#32
Seems like a lot of hassle to get beat first round of state every year
#33
The Boogie man has left the building.
#34
So what kids are moving to what school?
#35
I don't think you'll see any type of transfer until everything shakes out with Rhodes.

They said that he isn't going to be renewed.

If I'm not mistaken, contracts are signed in June. That's the way it is in a couple counties around here.

Plenty of time for this to get a lot more interesting.
#36
This is an all or nothing case I believe. They'll either go to Cordia if he stays, follow him elsewhere, or go home. No spoils for others. Too much time to figure things out.
#37
This will most likely get very bad

The NAACP and Rev. Al Sharpton (as Rhodes alluded to in one of his facebook status') will be headed to the mountains any time now.

Surely Hazard or any other 14th region school would want to take any of these kids if they decide to transfer? Not after every school and corner of the region has criticized Cordia for bringing them into their school!!!...........or would they???

My guess is Hazard, Perry, Knott, and a host of other 14th region schools would take any or all of them in a heartbeat. It's already happened with the Hudson kid a few years ago.
Hypocrisy in the 14th has no limits.

One out of so many. He went to Hazard for football and got a school to Miami Ohio..

It dont matter who comes his contract not renewed by the superintendent they can get a injunction but from what i was told by a pretty good source that it doesnt matter. The board has final say and superintendent. So Rhodes is fighting a losing battle just because he won the all A Championship doesnt matter they can get rid of you over anything.

Do KHSAA rules apply in Eastern Kentucky? Confusednicker:

The school board has "no" say in personnel decisions. Their job is policy and hire/fire the superintendent.

Now I put no in quotations because we all know that isn't always the case.
#45
Keep in mind that the Cordia situation is quite a bit different than your normal school. They are leased by the Knott County school system, but privately owned.
#46
^ a situation they should get out of.
#47
^ but not sure they ever could

Maybe True but Rhodes can argue about why his fellow counterpart from rival
School KCC wasn't terminated for not making it to state. He also can argue why he wasn't terminated when all the trouble started?

I have no horse in the race but this could end up badly.

Stlcardsfan Wrote:^ but not sure they ever could

What could be the reason that they couldn't? It's a privately own building and Knott is paying for the teachers/administrators. Is it based on the location?
#50
Cordia would probably be private if they could afford to pay for what Knott County Schools cover and keep up everything they do with the Lotts Creek Community School.

I imagine they will take a long hard long at going private soon.
#51
School board meeting tonight.
May find out a little more about the situation, but I doubt anything will be settled.
#52
All about covering costs as Zaga said.
#53
What about all the KHSAA Violations and cheating? I dont know of any other person alive that could get by with so much.
#54
coaching is a dirty business. remember Hazard pushed Spurlock out the door after winning All A state title and winning the region. and look what Clay County is doing to their coach right now. people don't need to think that this is just happening to Coach Rhodes because it happens all the time.
#55
If cordia put as much into improving their test scores as they don crying bout basketball they'd be in a good shape
#56
Someone who was supportive of Rhodes said they let him go because of funds he used while his wife was in labor in Lexington. If this wasn't basketball related, how would it have been justifiable to charge this to the school? Are living/travel expenses in his contract?

I am not accusing at all, just trying to get some clarity. If that sort of thing is not in his contract, then I can't say that the termination wasn't warranted -- misappropriating funds is a big deal.

I hope it gets settled properly and they get this one right.
#57
I believe most, if not all, coaching positions are considered extra-curricular and come up for renewal at the end of each year. Since it is extra-curricular, no reasons are needed for non-renewal of the coaching contract. I don't believe there is any "tenure" in coaching positions.

Was the money from Cordia School or Lotts Creek Community School?
Two different entities, two separate bank accounts, same building.
#59
Rhodes can say it is a race issue but it isn't. It is a "he is at Cordia and they are at Perry/Hazard/Knott/Clay/North/South/JBS" issue.
