What a poor pitiful excuse of a troller! None of these WV kids would have went to Delbarton anyway you moron! #23 had enough sense not to get involved with MC. If I have 10 more grandkids they would still go to Belfry. Besides that you know all the junk that has went on at Burch Middle. I won't say anything else about that cause I have friends at Burch and MC. Hopefully you people will now get a chance to get a football coach that's not a pervert! That's all! Have a nice day.:1:

I think it is very humiliating for some people to post on here. Belfry has a handlful of kids that came over from bad programs that wanted to win. However, the team Belfry just blew out completely has no borders at all. They have athletes from all over the state and the country playing for them. Which on paper should tell you Lexington Catholic should beat Belfry. In reality, the system at Belfry is second-to-none regardless of who is on the team. This idea with today's generation that "athletes will win regardless of the coach" is not only ludacris it's absurd. A great coach and a great system will always and has always offset talent. Now, when talent is added to that great program is when you have dynasty-type situations like you're seeing with this belfry class. The jealousy is just embarrassing to see. Lexington Catholic has to recruit in order to survive. Belfry does not and will never have too.
12-08-2015, 01:43 AM
We don't recruit. We accept and mold talent that wants to be a part of something special.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Belfry played 3A's second best team twice in the season. Lawrence Co. was by far the best Belfry played against in 3A

I Rule The World Wrote:I feel like Belfry could have won every class except 6A... I may be wrong..
I don't think so. Great team this Belfry team. But them against South Warren would have been near even money. Belfry would grind it out, S. Warren would have the big plays. Both teams in 5A state would be hard to handle for Belfry, IMO. But I'd be interested in seeing those games. I'd like to see if Belfry could play with, and/or beat those teams.

^ Fair enough. Belfry fans need to be humble. That said, I think we would have had a fair shot against SW or BG. Not saying we would have won, but would have had a chance. Certainly against Lafeyette too IMO.

How many State titles did Belfry win before they got David Jones from Red Jacket, WV in 2004 as a player?
Then the pipeline opened!

Come on now. How many of the hounds actually live inside its district. All them schools around Corbin. Don't hate. We love our boys from across the river. And they wanted to be part of the best program. But without them we still would have won championships.

We have had great players before him. Belfry went to state back to back years in 86 and 87. These boys come from all over. If I lived within a 30 to 40 minute in either direction I would drive my child. Just for the program alone.

How many years would it have been since Corbin's last State Finals appearance if the Lawson kid played in his school District in 2002?
If anyone should not be casting stones, it is Corbin. The Redhounds have built their history on kids migrating to their school system from Lynn Camp, Whitley County, and South Laurel.

I am just stating a fact that Belfry never won a State Title before the David Jones to Belfry in 2004 and then it opened up a pipeline from WV. That is when Belfry started to Dominate its class.
Corbin Kids have all came from the same State of KY.

There are too many sad, narrow-minded, whiney, cry babies on here. Take a butt kicking, learn from it, and act like some body! Do something about it. Be better next time. Sure, some Belfry fans on here crow a little. So what? That right has been earned, even if just as a fan. It will not last forever, but I hope it does.
So what if kids want to play there. They're vetted, cleared, and tuition paid. Happens across the state. No, it didn't start with Jones. Kids have transferred for years. I had a neighbor in the '60s go to Williamson to play. Then at least in the '70s, if you wanted to a future/success in basketball, you went to Williamson.
Note my comments are in general, not about WV. I can understand why a kid (or parents) don't want to play 8-9 years in systems that don't win. Why is UK basketball great? Kids want to go there. UK football? Kids don't want to go there. Success breeds success. Yes, colleges recruit, but the principle is the same. As long as the educational part of a kid's bringing up isn't ignored, so what?
This crap is as bad as politics. No matter the facts, 90% of us believe we're right no matter what. I wish people could carry on open-minded discussions here, not pitiful participation-trophy jealousy.
And not to totally thread-jack, congratulations Belfry on another Championship. Well deserved, well executed, and very exciting. Here's hoping for continued success.

Just to take away from the arguing and good-minded poking at one another.
I just saw on the news that a Belfry coach had to leave with six minutes remaining in the state championship game to go home. His wife got an alert on her phone showing that a robbery was taking place in their house, so he immediately left the field and headed back in hopes of catching the man. This is truly saddening that this took place and the man had to leave the game when he should've been celebrating a third straight state championship but he couldn't!

With respect...and I dont say this often... but this may be one of the dumbest uses of logic I have ever read on here.
Does crossing a State Line make a player better suddenly?
If Jones travels 10 miles and crosses one district boundary to go to Belfry does that mean he is suddenly a much better player than a guy who travels 10 miles and crosses one district boundary to go to Corbin?
Is it because West Virginia is some powerhouse football state?
I mean seriously...

Belfry had played in and lost three titles prior to Jones. You are correct in that is when the "pipelines" opened, meaning that this is when people began to have a problem with legit transfers and tuition students.
IMO the biggest impact Jones coming to Belfry had on WV players following suit in larger numbers than before was his UK scholarship.
And if this was a slight on WV players coming to Belfry please no that David is still a valued member of the Belfry staff. He didn't just come for winning football and leave, he came for life.
12-08-2015, 04:35 PM
David is a hell of a guy too. Still really good to me. Also helps kids from all throughout the area get up with colleges. In fact, he was talking to Cumberlands for one of the seniors at Mingo Central the last time I saw him. He had nothing to gain from that, he just wants the best for kids. No matter where they go to school!

Coach Haywood is as Honest and by the book man as there is. He loves the Program and would do nothing to tarnish it. If a parent comes in that wants their child to play at Belfry if he doesn't know the rule for their situation he will call KHSAA. WITH THAT BEING SAID. 4 peat is coming in 363 days. GUARANTEED
To succeed in High School Athletics, mainly football, you need a system. You need a legal system to feed talent in year by year. Reload not Rebuild. Belfry has one of the best systems in the entire state if not country, and it's all legal. The only ones who have a problem with it are the ones who can't beat Belfry and those people typically forfeit.... Go Pirates!

You going to cry about it? Because that's what it sure sounds like. Your logic is idiotic at best. You say they all came from the State of Ky. but do they all live in that specific school district? I'll answer for you, no they don't, they come from other school districts to play there. Are they all legal? Because all of Belfry's kids are. You losers sling the snot every year about the transfers and you all have just as many as Belfry. I'm just stating a fact.

I would like to thank all of the Belfry fans for wishing JC good luck! Seemed as if all the fans we passed on our way in wished us good luck. JC done their best but just not there yet, maybe next year. The people crying on where the Belfry players come from is just crazy. Belfry has one of the best coaching staffs and school in the state! So don't blame it on the kids or BHS!! Fix your program!!!!!!!
12-09-2015, 01:53 PM
If I'm not mistaken, Pikeville High School, has had an "open-door" policy with every athlete in Pike County since the school opened it's doors. There is nothing wrong with it at all, however, I find it very odd that Belfry is catching hell for a handful of kids that have been in the Belfry system since atleast middle school. What is starting to happen is Haywood has put in a lot of years, and because of that he is not only creating a legacy at Belfry, but also in the homes of his players. So now when those players have kids, regardless of where they live, they want to be apart of the Haywood program just like their fathers were and just like they want their kid to do when they have them. So again, they don't have to recruit. Unlike other school systems, Belfry has stayed loyal to Haywood and visa versa, and now they are starting to reap the benefits of their loyalty with one another. Belfry is a great example of how things should be done, and from what I understand, they are loyal to all their coaches in all sports.

Belfry fans screamed their guts out when Johnson Central took the field. I know...I was sitting in the midst of them screaming MY guts out, too.
I didn't have anyone in my family or my home school playing in the state tournament this year, but I still wanted to attend.
Those true fans know of the blood sweat and tears these kids have left on their playing fields throughout the season. The know of the sacrifices that have been made by parents and grandparents for those players. Especially now, in an economy that's bottoming out, it isn't easy to drag the entire family to ballgames. But the mountain people seem to find a way to do just that, and to support their team.
I think it's a wonderful example to your younger kids, and to the football families around the area. This year marked the third straight title for Belfry High School! What a wonderful accomplishment. It also marked the very first time Johnson Central played on the state level. How far those kids and fans have come since the flooding event earlier in the season!!!
So everyone added a piece to the history of the high school state tournament. From BHS95 and her "adopted" Pikeville sons to Pulp Fiction who was so hyper he was running back and forth on the backs of the seats at the stadium. I like to think that I added a little there, too. I know I sure did receive a lot of fun, fellowship and excitement!!
So until next year.
Whatta game!!!

It doesn't matter where the kids come from! WE have never recruited at all. Yes, the kids were from WV but, they also pay tuition if they live across the border. Most of them came up through the grade school\middle school system in Kentucky though.
I had a lot of respect for the Corbin fans that came to Belfry, but your butthurt is putting a big ole black eye on Corbin...that's for sure.
Get off the WV crap!....atleast in this thread. If you want a WV thread, then start one. But we are congratulating the efforts of these kids in this thread.

I know! I was like Go Eagles on my way out while carrying my Pirate flag haha!! I would have stayed for the game but my first day at a new job was coming up Monday morning at 8am.
I am so proud of Belfry, Pikeville and JC for representing the mountains. It truly speaks a lot about our region that's been so hard hit. We rally around the game of football and for just a few hours on a Friday night in Eastern Kentucky under the lights, we all forget the hardships and struggles and see that team on the field wearing those colors with love and pride and we come together as one family. There's something truly special about us. During the season we are fierce rivals, but when one or three teams advance to their respective finals, we are all one! (Except for HADDIXHOUNDS) lol
I loved seeing you there Granny! I Hated we didn't get to talk longer! For all of you that haven't had the pleasure of meeting her, GrannyBear is a wonderful lady and a great person to be around. When you are a dominant program who consistently wins State Championships and at worst Runner Up/Semi Finalists, you don't need to recruit. Kids wanna win.
