I think you are way off base by saying Raceland's loss to Ashland means they aren't going to Bowling Green. Ashland would beat Pikeville and Paintsville badly. It's not even close. Raceland has a very good chance to play for a state title this year.

Looking at 1A east in comparison to preseason rankings:
Raceland-the favorite coming in but has underschieved and raised alot of eye brows and questions. The defense is legit, but the offense has sputtered and continues to look for an identity in that side of the ball. Only loss is to a VERY good Ashland and Quinten Baker/Drew O'Bryan.
Paintsville-Everyone knew about Kash, but a healthy Phelps makes them a contender. Beat Pikeville in OT, but didnt do much offensively in the win.
Pikeville-Everyone knew Pugh and the addition of Jarrell made them a contender. Plays rock solid defense snd csn control the clock. Only loss is to Paintsville in OT in a game where neither team did much offensively.
Hazard-Had alot of holes to fill and has now gotten the injury bug.
My analysis? Raceland, Paintsville, and Pikeville are still the front runners in the East. Neither has showed me anything to think any of the 3 couldnt beat the other on any given night. All three are very run oriented and play very good defense. Raceland had played the toughest opponent up to this point and got throttled by them. I feel the same way as i did when the season began. 1A east will be a dog fight to come out of snd whoever it is will prove that Beechwood isnt head and shoulders better than anyone else in Class A football.

Back to the game though....
GO RAMS!!! I really hope our offense starts to click, our defense is really good, but against teams with D1 tallent at the skill positions, we have to be able to make stops and avoid big plays. We arent going to win any shootouts this year.

Don't get me wrong, though, I still think Raceland will win their district with ease and should be playing in Bowling Green this year.
Are you serious ?? I not putting the Conley boy down but he will be the 7th or 8th best running back Raceland will see .
West carters better
Ashlands way better
Greenups I would give him and Byrd a tie
Lucasville's. Better
Portsmouth west better
Lawrence co better
Paintsville better
And you keep saying how Raceland is so slow and is lacking at skill kids I would say Ruseell is the one who has issues it was 49-8 with a running clock in the THIRD quarter against Ashland take off those rose colored glass's Raceland was 7 points down in third quarter against Ashland and before you cry about Russell's qb being out Raceland's had a grade 3 sprain and bone bruise on his ankle and played against Ashland but couldn't run

Ashland is just not that good and Johnson Central will prove that again this year. They shouldn't have beat us badly. Another year and another disappointing loss to the putty tats. Putty Tats couldn't win the class A state title let alone 4A.

Ashland is a lot better than I expected , everyone is saying beechwood is the best team in 1A it was 21-19 at the half with a depleted Ironton team yes the final was 35-19 but when your stud running back is sitting on the sideline hurt that kind of makes a difference . Ashland will beat Ironton by 40 plus points with or without their running back on the field and yes they would beat beechwood as well so to say that Ashland couldn't win a 1a title is silly

Why don't you build a putty tat statue right outside of Ram Stadium.

Keep on trying to convince yourself of that. No shame losing to an Ashland team loaded up and hungry to prove a lot of people wrong. I give Raceland a shot Friday if they play great and for 4 quarters. They don't and it will be a L.

This has to be the most pessimistic cynical fan base in High School sports.
09-17-2015, 01:17 PM
Please, no one take my statements, while being realistic ones, as me not supporting the Rams whole heartedly. I hope and pray we win out our schedule and finish 14-1 with a state championship and Even if we dont and we end up 3-8 and lose in the first round of the playoffs I will still love Raceland Football. im just realistic. I do believe though, that going to BG is still a real possibility. But, this game coming up is goina be a tall task. Like I said, if our offense clicks, we can play with anyone. Our defense is looking great rt now and the lack of effort we saw against West Carter, is gone gone gone, long gone. So it all boils down to the offense, from the preperation each week, to the play calling, on down to execution. Do I think this will happen? YES. But even at our best, this is going to be a tough ball game to win. I hope we put a running clock on them, but REALISTICALLY, I will be happy with a competitive ball game that we can grow on.
09-17-2015, 01:47 PM
Bottom Line.....If you lose to the putty tats you aren't going very far.
09-17-2015, 02:23 PM
The offense isn't gonna put up 40 points a game but the defense isn't gonna give up 40 either either could happen but probably not , after watching the entire greenup game on film I can tell you this Raceland is close to putting it all together , the line is opening holes the backs need to get up in them , Nathaniel made really good decisions he threw one bad ball and it was really bad but that's gonna happen, I was critical of the play calling but looking at the film here were holes the backs are trying to pick and choose holes or bounce outside and that's not Racelands game , line needs to hold blocks longer and the backs including the qb needs to hit the hole and get 5 not try and hit a home run with every run . Once all 4 backs start hitting the holes hard getting 5 getting 5 more then comes the home run and the pass game will open up a little more but they are close . Snd your bottom line don't mean very much when Raceland hasn't beat Ashland the last couple of years but have been to the state semis both years which is the futherest any Raceland team has ever gotten . How far did the teams go that beat Ashland ?? beating Ashland does not make or break Raceland this year or any other
09-17-2015, 02:27 PM
Rams have to find that go to guy like Messer. Those type of kids give teams their swagger. Kids believe that that guy will make the big play. For Raceland to find their idenity someone has to step into that role.
09-17-2015, 02:57 PM
Agree but disagree , the Rams have their identity it's not run gun its ground and pound with some gun that's who this team is , I agree with someone stepping up on defense it's already happened Kyle Jamison is playing line a man possessed. This team like each other play for each other . Did snyone else see Nathaniel walk out to the defensive huddle during the time out after he threw the pick on greenups 5 , I have no idea what he said but he was greeted by Kyle and the other defensive players with high 5's like it's ok we got this . Thats not always the case at other schools but is here and one of the things that make Raceland a special place
09-17-2015, 03:06 PM
Imo, I think Kyle Jamison could be that go to guy in the lassing game. He rarely drops a pass and usually turns a 3-5 yard reception into a 10-15 yard gain just bc of his strength. I think we miss Messer's height at WR more than anything. We have guys a quick out there, but he was a hard match up for most teams bc of his height. We are getting there. We dont want to be playing our best ball now. As long as we grow each week, we will get to where we want to be.

Years ago when there were 4 classes going to the semifinals two years in a row would have been impressive. Now....not so much. Double bottom line.....Cant beat putty tats you cant beat Beechwood.
09-17-2015, 03:37 PM
What we need is someone who can run faster than I can with the ball.

So to you the last couple of years aren't impressive , that makes since that your so negative about this team
09-17-2015, 05:19 PM
Its all watered down from bottom to top. To many classes. I don't think anyone can dispute that.
09-17-2015, 05:36 PM
No that is a 100% fact. Imo, 5 classes would be better. 3 is not competitive enough, 4 is OK, 6 is way too much. But in any event the players are who the are and we play who we play, in the alignment we are aligned. I have faith in this team though and think we will figure ourselves out and be in position to win in late Nov into Dec.

Here is something I have been thinking about.
1. Ashland thumped Raceland and Ashland thumped Russell. Ashland defeated a pretty good George Washington team by one point.
2. Everyone has been unimpressed with Raceland and outside of Russell beating Ironton, who lost both of their stud RBs in the second half, many have been unimpressed with Russell as well.
3. IF Ashland beats Ironton by as much or more than they beat both the Rams and the Devils and Raceland keeps this game close or wins, does it change anyones opinion about Raceland making it to Bowling Green and possibly being a contender again for their first title again?
Imo, it does. Especially if we put things together in this ball game.

I don't like the playoff system for sure , the first round 9times out of 10 is a joke . Of course the more divisions they add will dilute the competition but 1a has been a tough road the last few years . My question is this with Kentucky why have 6 divisions in football but only one is basketball and baseball 95% of the state start the season out knowing they have zero chance to win a state title just seems a little stupid
09-17-2015, 06:44 PM
I think there should be a sport wide division of teams. Not different restrictions on enrollment for different sports. But thats the KHSAA for u.
09-17-2015, 07:30 PM
Mayfield moving up gives a lot of teams a shot in 1A

It means you lost to a superior team. Raceland won't face anyone in 1A including Beechwood any better then Ashland. They clean some things up they will be fine. Ashland would win the 1A title everyday of the week and 7 times on Sunday.
