Ashland @ Russell 9/11

Oh my..... Lawrence County? never heard of them.

Oh yea... We don't play on neutral fields so I guess that is why "LC beats Russell every time."

Well except for the real big game. How many of them has LC played in?

Orange Blaze Wrote:As a football fan I typically cheer for Ashland 9 weeks out of the season with the obvious exception of their game with Raceland. After watching them play the Rams I was very disappointed to see how little they use their talent outside of Baker.

With the speed that is on that team it is crazy that they don't spread it out more because this team could be very explosive and exciting to watch. With their current stable of athletes the Tomcats would thrive in an Oregon style no huddle offense where they could use the speed of Baker and Brown downfield to cause most defenses fits. Add their running game into that and you have an offense that is very hard to stop. There really is no excuse for them not to have developed a quarterback with Baker over the years to add more dimensions to their offense.

Ashland will run into a strong team down the road as has been the case on recent years that will shut down their running game at the line and they will be in trouble because they failed to develop a complete offense which is a shame because they are talented enough to make deep playoff runs.
do not want to give away to much on film early in the season. every team will key on baker. opens a lot of offensive plays for ashland down the very long road.

More than likely Russell will be without their starting QB. Hate this game wont be played with both teams at full strength. Do you think Russell will go with a lot of Conley out of the wildcat like in the Ironton game? Or do you think that was just a quick fix and they will run their offense with Church at QB, or a mix of both. No matter what it will be interesting

I figure there are a couple of certainties. McKee will play and Maynard will play the "F them they don't respect us our RB and LB are as good as them" card.

How is Russell's qb ? If he's not 100% or close to it I would sit him . Raceland went into the game with the qb not close to 100% and the constant pressure from Ashland end's and linebacker's made it very difficult for him to be successful , Russell might wanna consider the big picture and the fact this game don't mean a lot in October .

I don't think Ashland recorded a sack against Raceland

If I was a betting man I'd say you'll see a mix of both.

I watched part of practice today and I can assure you Russell will be just fine. They may not beat Ashland but Ashland will know they were in a big game. I myself still pick Russell even if the coaches decide to sit McKee.

This might be Russell's last chance to make a statement for a while. After Ashland, they enter the "cruise control" portion of the schedule until the Rail Cities Bowl. It's not hard to get up for Ashland, so I don't think there will be any hangover from the Ironton game.

They need to duplicate last year's performance on defense and contain Baker. He had a good game, but he didn't light Russell up like he did others. When Baker touches the ball, Russell needs everybody flying to the football. Wrap him up, gang tackle, be physical.

Each team has played two games. How many different players have scored TDs from each team? I think Russell has two players that have scored and Ashland four players. is Russell more dependent on Conley than Ashlamd is in Baker?
#46
I think Russell has had 4 players score TDs. One on defense.

No.
#47
True. Russell has had 4 I believe. Mckee,Conley,Cole, and Drew B@$&%#. (Can't spell it) Russell has faced speed before and Obryan plays a lot like Irontons Young to me on defense. Young being a lot stronger but Obryan covers the field better. Just wished McKee was playing for that extra running threat.

Mckee will play

Russell in OT 34-33

Baker left. Baker right. Baker returning kicks. If you can't stop that it will be a long night.

I have to wonder if the wet field will slow Baker down. Can't remember how He plays on a wet field. We will probable see a lot of slipping and sliding for both teams.

Maybe so if it is as you say he would have to show up for that meeting. Rumor is that other appointments he had were canceled due to no show of the other party.

I just went back and read the threads for the 2014 game. It was some very interesting reading. Not many gave Russell any chance at all to win that game. Russell kept Baker to 154 yards rushing and Conley got 214 yards with Baker having I think 7 more attempts.

If Russell does not turn the ball over tonight I give them a very good chance. I hope that Baker and Conley cancel each other out but I have a feeling Conley is going to have a breakout night. With that being said I give Russell the win. We will all find out this evening.
