13th Region 2015-2016
OldJacket Wrote:Roger Richardson was one of the best to ever play at Cumberlands, I go back far enough to say that and there have been a lot of great players to play there...Roger was a good high school athlete at Whitley Co had no offers except at Cumberland...I think he started with half a baseball and half Basketball scholarship...The guy could shoot lights out...
A fine person and outstanding baseball and softball official.
You're right on about it being political. Barton,Tommy Stewart, Glenn Sasser. Those where the guys that started the Corbin program when Billy Hicks came. If you are not a Foley,Hoover,or in with the Varsity Club you are not getting in the Hall of Fame. Look at the ones that they have put in lately. No talent. All yes men's kids

A guy told me that about 15 or more players from there first state champion football team had been put in the corbin hall of fame. Said you could be an average football player and get in, but if you didnt play football that you better know somebody.
That is so true. Look at the athletes that they have put in lately. It's actually embarrassing for Corbin Athletes. When all the Varsity Club sucks move on, it should become better but I doubt it. Some other but kissers will take charge of it
Watch out for Cameron Harmon and Austin Allen at Knox Central. They will be the team to beat
Corbin will never be any good anymore until they get a basketball coach in there that has some guys and who will quit listening to parents. Petroski has let too many good players leave the program because he's scared to upset the parents. What a joke
TSizzle, sounds like you have a AX to grind with Corbin and Coach (Petroski) ?...Pietrowski :closeenough:
where are harmon and allen going to school next?
Who is Cameron Harmon?
they will probably try somewhere else before the season even starts
Nope. I love em
That's true. Who knows. Depends on the weather
I don't have a problem with anyone or Corbin. When I left there years ago and moved to California I still kept in touch with the area through the times tribune online. Just seems to me that there needs to be a change to help revive the basketball program like they did with football
I think Whitley county could compete this year. With the addition of Rice it gives them another big to go with Adam Petrey. they can match up with south and I thought they already had one of the best backcourt a in the region with woods, Johnson, and crisologo
We know the 13th will not have a repeat champion this year. So who takes the title this year. Clay is always in the mix. With Farmer Smith and Wolfe they be a hard out for anybody. North basically has same team as last year. Year older may help. North has been really young but talented. Broughton and asher are now jr's. North will also have a true point guard this year in adam sizemore that I believe is ready to make a major contribution. North also got a transfer that some say will help.

Whitley co got Rice from north laurel to transfer in. Will he be enough to put them in the mix? Everybody knows how hard hey play.

South got Andrew from williamsburg to go along with an already pretty solid bunch. taylor grubb anders griffith and miller will be a talented bunch. South will be looking to develop a bench.
13th is loaded this year with good teams. Going to be a good year for me with South Laurel being 2 miles from my house and North Laurel being 6 miles. :Cheerlead
1. South
2. Clay
3. Whitley
4. Corbin
5. North
South rolls through 13th.

They may win it, but I don't think any team will roll through it.
My pre-season top 10 is just a opinion based on what I heard and saw during summer basketball. Coaching changes and transfers also influence my opinion on ranking teams. I know summer ball and actual season is two different seasons because of baseball and football players being limited in participation during summer ball. Still think you can get a feel for teams. :Thumbs

1. South Laurel
2. Clay County
3. Corbin
4. Whitley County
5. Harlan County
6. North Laurel
7. Bell County
8. Knox Central
9. Barboursville
10. Harlan
Im pretty set in the fact that the region champ will either be Clay or a team from the 50th.

The only other possible maybe is North but I don't see it.

South, Clay, Whitley, and Corbin should have a chance.

I think South wins, followed by Clay, and either Corbin or Whitley don't even make it to region because of district. Until Whitley proves they can win the big ones you have to think thatd be Corbin right now.
Hearing Bayley Rice is in excellent shape.
Has anybody heard where Rice is going to school next year?

I don't see how Whitley and Corbin have a chance and not Harlan County. Bell County, Knox Central and Barbourville should also be in that mix.
Whitley

Corbin
I love the 13th region and respect all opponents but I can't help but say this is a two team race: Clay County and South Laurel. Could someone sneak up and pull a North Laurel from 4 years ago? Absolutely. These two teams combine for roughly 6 players in the vast majority of people's top 10-12. In my honest opinion, Blake Smith is still the best overall player in the region, Trey Farmer is probably the best at inside and outside scoring, and Wes Wolfe is one of the better athletes. South has by far the best interior presence in duo Griffith and Taylor. I can't see many teams in SEKY competing with them inside. I expect Will Sexton to break into that veteran group of upperclassmen in the region. We'll see what Robert Marcum does with the lineup and bench though. Don't really know about South's depth as well. Last year's game in London was a classic and the Tigers needed some of Trey Farmer's late heroics. I'm still curious as to why this years contest is not in Manchester. I will not get carried away but if both teams can get to region, don't be shocked if the draws have them playing before the championship. Never have been a fan of that. However, last year's championship was definitely #1 and #2.
