Coach Cecil talking with the kids!
They say we had 170 plus kids on the field Friday night for meet the Bulldogs! The future looks bright for Bulldog football
LC scrimmage at Besty Layne 8/14/15. This was originally supposed to be a grid-o-rama but the other teams dropped out for what ever reason. Give the dawgs a chance to get in sync a little bit Some are traveling to NC to attend Phillip Ratliff's services. Phillip has nephews that play for the dawgs. Very emotional time in Louisa for both young and old. Every once in awhile, you come across that individual that embodies all that is good in the human race and Phillip was one of those people.

Who were the teams that dropped out?

I'm not sure.
I was told that originally 4 teams were supposed to scrimmage.
Why the heck would 2 teams drop out of a scrimmage? Maybe they can find a few teams to fill the void. I guess the 2 other teams were scared lol!

well i am still wondering why we are scrimmaging against BL.
dawgbyte02 Wrote:well i am still wondering why we are scrimmaging against BL.

I have no idea. What kind of season did BL have last year and what is expected from em this year. I would think we could find a better team then this to scrimmage against. If you ask me a scrimmage game is a good time to take on a very good team who can expose your week spots and show you what you need to work on.

I'm not sure if this is why but That is where Coach Cecile is from. That's where he went to High school and played ball. So maybe that might have something to do with it. Either way lets get behind this team and coaches and let them take care of business this should be a good year for the Dawgs. Sounds like it's going to be a good year for Eastern KY in High School football . Good luck to all.

I'm behind the team all the way, but if we have another scrimmage before 8/21 I hope it's against some stiffer competition. If we go down to BL and run it up and down the field on em(and I'm not saying that will happen) then I don't know what they can gauge from that is all I'm saying. I think we're going to have a good year also and I'm excited about it!

Miss LC Ashland games. If not playing they should scrimmage.

I agree with this 100%. The last few times Lawrence and Ashland played we were down a little and in a coaching staff transition and they were lopsided in favor of Ashland. We have had some pretty good teams the last few seasons and this season could be the best of the last three years. Ashland would probably be the favorite but I think it would be much more competitive. I hope to see Ashland back on our schedule in the years to come.
This was supposed to be a 4 team pan-o-rama but one team droped out a couple of weeks ago the 3rd team drop out this week. Leaving only bl and lc, lc was not scheduled to play bl in the beginning. That late in the game it is hard to find teams that are not already booked somewhere.
So I would love to know how the Dawg's looked in the scrimmage today. I am waiting for when coach Cecil gets the game posted on Hudl sometime tonight hopefully. I will give my thoughts after I see it.
The staff at Lawrence must be scared of everybody that's any good in the area. The word in Ashland is that Coach Cecil is privately lobbying for Rose Hill to start a football program so he can schedule them also.

Bring on Rose Hill!

And who are all the juggernaut teams on your schedule other then Johnson Central who you have no choice but to play?

Aug 21, 15 Boyd County-Beat bad last year supposed to be better
Aug 28, 15 Montgomery County- Don't know but have to be better then Rowan
Sep 4, 15 Fairview-Almost beat us last season and will be better
Sep 11, 15 Powell County-Don't know much about
Sep 18, 15 Greenup County-Beat em 49-19 2010 last time we played supposed to be better
Oct 2, 15 Raceland-Beat us last year we beat em in 2013 should be close this year
Oct 9, 15 Belfry-2 time defending 3A state champs but just like you and JC we have to play so they don't count
Oct 16, 15 Pike County Central-Lots of talent close game last year
Oct 23, 15 Sheldon Clark-Closer game last season then expected probably a little better this season
Oct 30, 15 Prestonsburg- Very good 2a team last season and probably pretty good again this season.

Aug 28, 15 Raceland- Almost beat you last year probably about the same this year
Sep 4, 15 George Washington, WV-Know nothing about but beat you
Sep 11, 15 Russell-Better this year but we beat em bad in scrimmage 2014
Sep 18, 15 Ironton, OH- Beat you bad last year been down for years
Sep 25, 15 Rowan County- We beat the brakes off last season
Oct 2, 15 Boyd County- Same as Rowan just bad
Oct 9, 15 East Carter- We named the score on last season
Oct 16, 15 Greenup County-We beat em bad last time we played
Oct 23, 15 Johnson Central
Oct 30, 15 Tates Creek-Know nothing about but no world beater 3-8 last season. They play Belfry soon so we will see how bad they are.

If you ask me I think we took a step up on our schedule this year getting teams like Rowan and East Carter out of the way. I think both schedules reflect fairly new coaches just trying to get in their grove and I think both teams could be about to hit some very good years. Lawrence County has a ton of talent on it's way playing in JFL and Middle school right now and some pretty big freshman classes this and last season.
^^^^^

It's also worth noting that two years ago Belfry and Ashland were set to play a two year series and Ashland backed out at the last minute to pick up Sheldon Clark instead.

just got back from scrimmage. dawgs looked good on both sides. i don't think bl ever scored. only bad thing the big tight end schafer got ejected under a new rule personal foul. somebody said he was required to sit out 4 games. looked like a clean block to me but they that type of blck was not allowed this year.

Did he go for the players knees or what? All I want to know is how the defense looked?

like i said i do not think besty layne scored a single td. i would be surprised if they had any positive yards. they were way out of their league against lc. they tried triple teaming ross and he just tossed like rag dolls. they had the bl qb in the backfield many times looked like a high school team playing a middle school team. dawgs scored at will. as far as ejection schafer was olb covering flat and chaffins was safety. pass was intercepted by chaffins and schafer blocked intended receiver who was trying to make a tackle on chaffins. ref said block fell under new targeting rule and automatic ejection and i guess a four game suspension. no fighting, no trash talk, no injury. if that block called for ejection there will be teams losing 4/5 players per game this season. the khsaa has posted some you tube vids explaining it. looks to me like a complete judgement call by high school refs. i applaud the attempt to limit injury. but ther has been no education of players. hard on a senior to lose a big part of the season on a rule you had no idea about.

I don't understand the point of ejecting a player for a bad block in a scrimmage game, a regular season game I could see. Why not just explain the new rule to the kid and move on. A lot of teams scrimmaging today and no one else is talking about this so is this the only crew in the whole state doing this. Also 4 games is a little stiff for something with no trash talk or flagrant action I would think.

I agree. I'm not sure about 4 game. Somebody at game said was new rule to prevent concussions and had only been in effect since July. I looked at KHSAA demo vids on you tube and you can bet there will be a lot of talk about this going forward. The is specific about where you place your block. It has to be shoulder pad below the shoulder. It explains that a shoulder pad block on the top of the opposing player shoulder pads could be a violation as it is a block above the shoulder. Blocks must be below shoulder not counting shoulder pad.
First of all chaffins is not playing this year, richardson intercepted the pass, luke blocked a lineman #79 I beleave knoked him flat of his back and knocked his helment off. The kid got right up, he was attempting to make the tackle on richardson. From what bl athletic direction told me this is a new rule just passed this past monday for targeting a player it will be appealed on Monday. Bl and coach cecil are both going to appleal on lukes behave. The game was being filmed so I am sure it will get overturned, just a case of a new reff. Over reacting to a good hit.
just been informed it is a two game suspension. 2nd time it happens you are done for season i am told. so if this is true you could get ejected in a scrimmage game then go to regular season game 3 and start the game on special teams and have a judgement call by a ref that you made an illegal block or tackle and be ejected and your season is over. hopefully someone with more knowledge of these new rules could educate us on the particulars. could be a rough season for seniors this year. yep football as we know it is on the way out. I will say within 10 years there will be no high school football.
I thought it was a great block. The player he hit was much bigger than him and I really thought it was clean. It looked bad because the player's helmet went flying but still....4 games? 4 f&#kin games for a crack back block? Player safety or not if that costs someone four games then that is absolutely ridiculous. I do feel those refs at that scrimmage should be suspended for the season. They were bat shit crazy and I hope they don't get to ref any more LC games or any other. Just terrible.
