baseball1974 Wrote:That's awesome. It's hard for kickers to get recognized. I don't mean this negative in anyway, and it has nothing to do with his ability, but realistically kickers will never be able to get full scholarships. Coaches hold those scholarships in high regard and only 15% of college kickers recieve money their first year, and even then it's usually a partial scholarship. A lot of schools will ask them to walk-on and what's crazy is they'll probably play. They do this in order for them to prove their worth and that's why almost all of the kickers receiving money are juniors and seniors. After they have spent a year or so showing their worth, usually a coach will extend some money to them just to maintain that consistency in the kicking game. Don't get me wrong, there are incoming college freshman that receive money, but those are usually guys that have competed in kicking events and been evaluated by NFL scouts. It's hard to predict the potential of a kicker at the next level and that's why it is hard for a coach to justify giving them any money. I wish him luck. It sounds like he has a great leg. I just hope he understands the business side of things and doesn't get discouraged by it.FBS formerly DIv 1A are allowed to give partial scholarships but it counts against their 85 limit. I do not know of an FBS school that gives partial scholarships for this reason. FCS formerly Div 1-AA on the other hand is allowed to offer partials to cover up to 85 players
from their allotted 63 full scholarships. Partials are very common at FCS schools. This is why academics are so important. There are many academic scholarships that pay at least some of an education and combine this with a partial at an FCS school and you have many choices. FBS schools always recruit at least 1 punter and 1 kicker as needed.

They recruit them as "preferred walk-on." The kickers on the team that are getting money are the ones that have been there for a year or two. You're absolutely wrong about partial scholarships. I don't know any other way to say it?

LC should finish 7-3 next year. My prediction.

Let me rephrase, the 85 player rule will always be in effect but partial scholarships can be given. It's a school to school basis on how their scholarships are done.

Much improved.

As always there is potential for LC to be really good next year!!

Lose to Belfry again in the Region Final.
05-06-2015, 08:14 PM
Any word on numbers or how the team looks?

All roads end for us at Belfry.
05-13-2015, 04:11 PM
I do not know if it is the coach or lack of talent but LC should be able to at least play with Belfry.

So it's been a while since I been on BGR. Man I can hear the distant thunder of those cleats going down the field and the pop of those pads and the smell of that grass on a Friday night. Football season is pretty close and I can't wait. So has anyone heard or seen anything from the bulldogs like numbers, size, new players coming in or old players going out? I would love to hear anything at this point.

Lawrence has the Atheletes, size upfront, and experience to have a very good season. Their season's success will come down to if their skill guys can play WE football and not ME football and their lines development in the mobility department. From a coaching standpoint, they just need to pick a system and go with it. Be it read option, vear, spread, or pro I. Pick one and go with it. I think they try to mix things up a bit too much at times. No matter how good their season plays out, I think it will likely end with atleast 2 losses to Belfry (reg and post season) and a close loss to Raceland. Belfry should be an even more dominant and powerful team than thy were last year. That OL was and still will be, huge and mobile.

No shame in losing to Belfry
05-24-2015, 11:56 PM
No, most definitely not. But i onow from years of taking loss after loss to either Lexington Christian, Beechwood or NCC in the regional finals that it gets old. U just keep searching for that way, the right personel, the right coaching , sometimes it just dont happen, though.

Rumor has it that Robert Dalton will be transferring back to Tolsia, Wv. Does anyone know or heard if Timmy will be doing the same?

Lots of size in the trenches, probably the biggest lc has been in awhile.

Depending on who the coaching staff will be starting of course. A lot of depth in the trenches from what I have seen.

So what is the news with the Dawg's? Did they start summer practice yet?
From what I'm hearing they have huge lines this year, some of the biggest lineman in a long time.

I have no idea what kind of teams Powell and Montgomery are. Anyone have any info on them? Very glad to have Raceland,Fairview and P-burg on the schedule again. Those will be some good games outside of district.

Do not like that schedule.
Lawrence is going to have a solid team...the only non-district game to really push them should be Raceland.
I am going to say an 8-2 regular season and LC finishes 10-3.

I don't see powell county being that good for some reason. But with the return of coach mike whitaker returning back and helping from the sideline. I can see montgomery County being a much better team this year....I Think :pondering:

I am guessing I am the only one who is sad that a Game with LC / JC could not happen. I just do not under scheduling Montgomery County / Powell County but not JC. I feel sure that JC would give LC a good dose of humility. However, tough game and sometimes a little humility is good for a team. For sure it would give LC an extra week perspiring for a similar offense of Belfry and getting tested is good. I believe this would increase LC chances against Belfry. I just do not understand how good teams can fear competition.
O by the way I am sure KY Rock going to respond with if LC played JC they would win. (so on on on on on on)

I wonder why LC didn't want to schedule them?

J/K
Side Note:
I actually do agree that it would have been a pretty wise two year contract for both teams in this instance. Good gate, low travel cost, JC needs a game, LC needs to push themselves.

I don't either. I don't know anything about either Powell or Montgomery and with that fact then they probably don't have much.
