13th Region 2015-2016
#31
North was drowned in expectations last year. Can they play up to their talent level this year or are they doomed to another year of under performing?
#32
Turner from Barbourville and Anders from South are the two top sophomores returning. But of course, we all should know that.
#33
North underperformed because of the region's toughest schedule. They have an easier schedule this year and it will breed success. If I were them I'd schedule Williamsburg twice for sure. Home and away.

I guess I'm not as smart as everyone then. I'd put Taylor from Corbin first, but I respect your opinion because they are both good players. I had Taylor, Turner, Anders, Capobianco and Nolan as my top five freshmen.

My reference to Carmical and Spurlock were as current sophomores.
#35
You are right. I forgot about Taylor. He has to be the first.
#36
I saw Spurlock and Carmichael at the AAU state tourny this weekend and they both looked pretty darn good. Spurlock looked like he was at least 6'6 or 6'7 and Carmichael was doing his usual work on the court. Folks had better not sleep on HC next season.
#37
Harlan County should be pretty OK. I can see them beating Clay. Have the talent to defend Smith but will have trouble stopping Farmer. He is the key to Clay's success this season. Farmer has a good season Clay will win region. Cause Mountaindew said so.
#38
Slow down Mountain Dew. I didn't say anyone was beating BIG CLAY.
#39
Oh, I know. But Clay isn't a guaranteed No. 1 this season. Just like last season. This year it's a toss-up unless South gets reinforcements then they'll be No. 1. Cause Mountaindew said so.
#40
I didn't say HCHS was ready to beat Clay, at least not early. Clay has that big senior class next year. HCHS had a good sophomore class last year and a really strong group of freshmen. I just said they could be in the same group with Barbourville and Corbin, along with Whitley, Bell and OBI.

Spurlock is getting close to 6-6. He may be as good a mid-range shooter as anyone in the region and is getting more consistent on 3-pointers. He could just use a little more weight and strength.
Carmical is a tremendous point guard, a great passer, good shooter and surprisingly good rebounder for his size due to his quickness and hustle. He didn't play much at the point last year because of Bumgardner, but that's probably his best position.
#41
HC is my favorite team in the region after the TIGERS. I personally think they will be right in the mix of things next year.
But as a diehard homer I can never say that anyone is going to beat CC. I just know I'm ready to get the season started. I guess I'm in for a long summer. Best of luck to all the teams and players.
#42
Yep. I agree. Harlan County should win the 52nd District.... But after that, maybe one region tourney win.
#43

North was only 5-7 in region and 2-5 in district. That is underachieving with their talent level.
#44
Maybe the talent wasn't as good as many thought? Maybe, the people that thought they were gonna be world beaters underachieved as prognosticators? Cause Mountaindew said so!!!
#45
Has Griffith or Bailey actually left there current schools or is it just rumor for the upcoming summer.
#46
neither has left their school
#47
I was at the KBA this weekend and I heard all sorts of rumors. I heard Smith from Clay County had picked up all sorts of offers and also saw and heard one of Norths players was a done deal to Clay. Can anyone confirm?
#48
If nobody transfer and everybody keeps what they have. I would ranked them like this.

1. Clay County *
2. North Laurel ( yes ) *
3. South Laurel *
4. Barbourville *
5. Harlan County *
6. Knox Central *
7. Corbin *
8. Whitley County *
9. OBI *
10. Bell County *

If you have and * besides your school name I have hear rumor......:yikes: transferring in or out....just remember RUMOR Confusednicker:

North to me has alot of ?'s. Yes they are super talented. Henson will transfer and if he wants to pay probably should. Rice I hear is a done deal to whitley. capobianco and Grieble have been rumored to play just baseball for last two years. I hear as of now that is their plan. Those two could change when season gets closer. If all this happens that leaves Broughton, Asher(which has talked to clay in the past about coming there) Jeffers and sizemore. Would north be better by subtraction?
#52
Honestly, I think they would, if it would get players like James Nicely and Brian Gray on the floor as well. Would hate to see Henson go, or the other two you mentioned give it up, but without Rice they could play the uptempo style that would greatly favor Broughton and Adam Sizemore---if Brad would play that way. He seems to really be in love with the half-court style, with games in the 50's.
#53
I am with you van hager on this one. I just wanted to hear some others opinions on it.
#54
Every team/program loses players.
It's mathematically impossible for everyone to get on the floor who thinks they should. Sometimes entire classes get wiped out by talented younger players. Sometimes players get passed up because they quit growing or quit working.
Coaches who try to keep too many happy often end up making even more mad.
If you have a bunch of seniors and juniors who aren't playing much there are usually problems.
#55
Coaching basketball is full of catch 22 situations, with only 5 playing positions. Most high school coaches have to coach the hand dealt them. Which can be a dicey tough job depending on the talent.
#56
I had heard rumors of the Bailey kid going to Whitley before he chose to go to North. Not sure why he didn't just go to Whitley in the first place.

It will make for an interesting game this year with Corbin. He should help in replacing the void losing Sasko will bring.
#57
School is still in session, especially with testing go on in most districts, there won't be any movement for a few weeks.

This would be a big pick-up for whitley. :worthy:

I received a telephone call complaining about my "degrading" comment that I have just now deleted. I absolutely didn't mean to offend anyone, and I have apologized to that person.

She also said that she had gotten a "whole lot" of people from BGR calling her about that comment. So I would also like to apologize to the other folks I may have offended by that post.

Just to make sure there are no future misunderstandings or misinterpretations, I won't comment about that subject anymore.
#60
I seen your comment before it was deleted. There was absolutely nothing about it that was degradeing.
