Resting from December till the last weekend in October where they will beat Belfry again. Resting their players was a wrong statement they were hurt and beat to death. So talk all you want about JC they have other sports that they can be a contender in. Where as Belfry fans only have football!! Need to take some pride in your other school sports programs.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Johnson Central by far the largest school in the 15th Region by a good margin?
That certainly helps when it comes to sports like Baseball, Basketball, etc where there is no such thing as Separate Classes.
I would certainly hope JC would be strong in most sports considering they have a much larger base than other schools to pull from.

Correct if i'm wrong but the size of a school doesn't always play a part in being good at more than one sport!! Look at Paintsville one of the smallest in eastern Ky and they are competitive in several sports.

No, Jewell has never started on offense, this was his first year with significant PT and he played defense. No, Haddix never warmed up the freshmen QB in close games last year. If you weren't impressed with the senior RB play then you have a hard time evaluating talent. The players will have a year of experience in the system which will help, but with new starters they will still have to find their timing. I have big expectations for the hounds under Haddix, but you downplaying the contributions of those seniors show your alliance is only to Haddix and not the kids or program. BTW I don't hide. #haddixhounds #corbinforever

Not downplaying the kids or the program.... I know for an ABSOLUTE fact that the freshman Qb warmed up in a couple games that the score was close... As far as the seniors go, they were good, but the seniors this year will be better from getting used to the system that Haddix and Greer implement. They will hurt at linebacker and reciever, but someone will step up.. They have young kids to choose from too.. As for my alliance being with Haddix and not the seniors and the program.... The seniors had their chance to win, they played hard and gave 100% but couldn't get it done.. Trying to live in the present and in the future... To develop a consistent winning program that is what a coach has to do... It's the nature of the job nowadays if you want one.. Or want to keep it... You sound really positive about your forever hounds stating they don't deserve being in the top 5... Let last years team go and get excited about this year. #haddixalliance #platoon #tankscomingoverthehill #HaddixHounds #win

Jake Coppock will be hard to replace-STUD-! Corey Taylor had a great year! Dalton Anderson, Zack Ingle D1 OLineman.
Current players will have longer in the system and it will pay off. Kids off undefeated JV/Freshmen Teams are going to have to step up!

How many Regional Championships have they had in sports over the past ten years?
Pikeville is probably the best example of the lot if that is the point you were looking to make...but enrollment certainly helps a lot. Especially when it comes to sports where you can have athletes who solely focus on a single sport.

You can call it an Absolute Fact, but I too was at EVERY game. The freshmen QB will be very good and is a great athlete, but there wasn't a close game that he was warming up on the sideline. I said I agreed that a year in the system will help next year. Don't even start with the seniors had their chance to win. Their were mistakes made by players and coaches. Offense and Special teams came with a must win mentality, while the defensive strategy of playing not to lose did exactly that, lose. As you said let's put last season in the past. I've NEVER stated that they don't deserve to be in the Top 5. And you can't show one post were I said that they would even be down. My expectations are always State Championships and nothing less. So you must have me confused with another poster. All I have done is spoke about what they loss and who must step up this year. You are the only one that has spoke negatively about any Corbin players.

Title was top in the mountains.
Correct Johnson Central should be top in the 15th region in all 3 major sports.
Top football team in the mountains hands down Johnson Central. Don't give me belfry was resting players. The big RB played and only picked up 10 Yards. Central controlled the ball the whole game.
Let me guess belfry was resting players against pikeville too

Nobody rested anyone....as long as Belfry doesn't "rest" their players against the Wayne Counties and Centrals of the world we will be ok.

If you think Coach Haywood puts any emphasis on beating jc you're crazy. He wants to get through the game injury free. JC goes all out for this game, cause in many ways this is their season. I mean really if you're jc what other bragging rights can you have besides the Belfry game. You know you are getting drilled the first round of the playoffs, you're biggest win of the season, besides Belfry, is Ottawa School of the physically disabled Canada, or Stupidville Indiana. Bottom line Belfry is the class of the mountains in more ways than one. So, jc fans keep counting your wins over Belfry and Belfry will keep on counting state championships.

I have the solution:
Johnson Central will play in the 2017 Pike County Bowl @ CAM.

A few good years, but I don't see them competing anymore.

To say that corbin will be better next year is crazy imho. They lose l the qb, two best running backs, best WR, three huge O-lineman on offense and on defense they lose everybody but the d-line. There is no way that someone can honestly say that corbin will be better next year. They may know the offense better than at the beginning of last year but three games into the season they knew he offense last year. Corbin could very well be better than last year but it would surprise a lot of people if they were. Last years team was senior as sophomore heavy. The upcoming senior class has some great individuals expecially on the d-line but as a class they are pretty thin. I said it last year and I still believe it's true. This year will be when we find out how good the new coaching staff is. They walked into a gold mine last year. The seniors last year were the most talented class corbin has had in ten years.

Jim Rome what are drugs are you on? Coach Haywood a hall of fame coach does not rollover for anyone. (Why does Belfry care if a player got hurt in the JC game? Unless it a serious injury they will be back in 3 weeks for playoff game when they play someone who is average. It is very simple JC has put a "butt kicking" on Belfry the last 2 years. No excuses or questions. (How was Belfry going to win the game last years I do not think there offense got within the 30 yard line?) I do agree last year belfry fans came into the game with a Reberto Drant (no mas ) attitude. But I think that had much more to do with the butt kicking Belfry took from JC at Belfry in 2013 than it do injuries. JC has several players injured and was out or playing at much less of a % in the Belfry Game, injuries are just part of the game.
I hope Belfry continues to win the state championships but the class of the mountains in football goes through JC until someone takes it away from JC on the field, Period. You can run your mouth all you want but, until Belfry or other teams in the mountains schedule JC and beats JC the facts are the facts.

Not saying JC wasn't the better team...they were...but Belfry was missing 11 starters combined including All-Staters Bentley and Horton. The attitude Belfry fans had entering the game was 100% revolving around a defense that completely decimated by injury.
I still think JC was the best team in EKY last year. What they did do was dominate Belfry's OLine that was helahty save the TE position and noone else could do that. With both teams at Full Strength I think JC wins that game in the 14-7, 10-7, or 17-7 range.
01-29-2015, 08:16 PM
I think most Belfry fans look at the JC - Belfry game as the wake up call game. Every year its the one game late in the season that helps get heads straight. What I mean by that is that win or lose JC either dominates the game or it is a game where the win has to be earned. This brings a Pirates team who is used to winning big all season back down to earth and ready for the playoffs. It holds no bearing or bragging rights for the Pirates. When all is said and done at the end of the year the only scores that matter are :
Belfry 14
Central 7
and
Cov Cat 19
JC 7
Since 2007 JC has held the upper hand most times against the Pirates this is true, but what about Bell Co? By my account the few times they have been on the schedule they stomped JC and they love to run around yelling King of the Mountains. Their is no real way to determine Class of the Mountains and if there was it wouldn't matter anyway because what matters his how you perform in your KHSAA Class. As a side note In that same time frame (2007 - Present) Belfry has 2 State Titles and 4 State Runner Up Trophies and 7 Regional Titles, JC has what 1 Regional Title in that time frame. I could add in all the accolades prior to 2007 but that just wouldn't be fair.
Until JC stops scheduling gimme games at home and start playing a beefier schedule they will continue to have that as their only bragging right and don't give me the no one will come to JC and play stuff. Get on a bus and go play someone who matters. Matney wins regular season games against weak schedules and usually brings everyone to JC to play them unless its a District opponent or a rare opponent like Belfry then you likely wont see JC on the road.
A win over Belfry should be a mid level win and should happen almost yearly not be your biggest win of the year.
So next year Highlands is gone and things get a little easier for JC to "legitimize themselves" but can they do it? Can Matney do it? He has what 2 quality deep playoff wins since 1998 and I don't remember him doing much prior to 1998 either.

JC has a well below .500 record all-time except against Canada teams which thought they were coming to play hockey. Belfry has more playoff wins in the last 3 years than JC has all-time. JC has a losing record against 1A Paintsville. JC has 0 state title game appearances. When JC and Belfry was in the same district and the game actually meant something JC had 0 wins. JC is known throughout the state as the team that beats up on weak competition which is true. So if you want to be considered as the class of the mountains first you must have class, then win games that matter, kinda like Belfry does it. And here is the most important fact, YOU ARE STUPID! Now :gtfo:

Pulaski and Belfry are clearly top 2. SW and Johnson Central are close to the first two. North Laurel, Corbin and Bell will all be good but have some questions. Letcher, Knox Central and Shelby Valley round out the top 10. Pikeville and Lawrence County are very close to the bottom three of top 10. Lot can change between now and August. Kids move in and out. Kids mature. If Whitley County finds a couple of linemen they could push this group. Leslie County and Paintsville are also right there. Hazard has a great coach and if they find a quarterback they will make life miserable for their opponents. There is a top 5 and then 10 or so teams competing for the next 5 spots.

Can not argue with any of that.
