Head coach at Knott Co.
#31
As far as the kids and Chapman go, what I heard was that at the end of the season the Perry Central players got together and had a players only meeting and made a pact that if Chapman came back they refuse to play.
#32
One name I heard is a leading candidate is coach Maximus McGaventhal. He won two state titles in Pureto Rico in the 60's. Any truth to this?

If this is in fact true, that just shows how mentally weak, and what kind of state Perry Central Football is in. Chapman is a great coach who is well worth the $$$, he didn't contribute to three state championships at Breathitt by doing nothing. I hope those kids and the community learn what it takes, and are willing to pay the price to be successful. Football is a demanding sport that requires discipline and dedication. Coaches do need to express love, but it needs to be tough love.

There have been plenty of schools in the final four of the bball state tourney that started several football players heck Madison won it a couple of years ago and someone said 4 of those starters played football. and word is Hawkins was a great football player. Ft. Thomas Highlands always has several football players on their hoops team.

Lorenzen and Derek Smith are two that come to mind from Highlands. Both went on to play at UK and eventually in the NFL.

Well tough love is not cussing the kids out and calling them names and treating them terribly. I know for a fact, that is how her treats them. He may know the game, but this is still "kids" we are talking about playing for him. That we must remember!

How many basketball stars in the 14th Region are Football stars?

Perry - Tobler, Whitmore, Pray, and Napier. Beverly, Blair, and Turner don't play.
Hazard - ????? Hardy and Wells don't play football.
Leslie - Whitaker. Spurlock, Smith, and Collett play football? Don't think so.
Buckhorn - LOL - Would have two nice D-ends in Hoskins and Estep.
Lee County - Hahahaha
Owsley County - Funny
Breathitt - ????. Chaney would made a nice TE or QB maybe.
Jackson City - comical
Letcher Central - Williams, Hall, Big QB play.
Knott Central - Notta one. Justice, Hall, Christian, Combs, and Cornett don't play football. Sure all 5 of those boys could contribute a lot.
Jenkins - Not sure
Riverside - LMAO
Powell County - They play football there?
Wolfe County - Never had a team
Estill County - Not familiar with them.

Well as you can see, the stars in this region don't put the pads on. Why, simply cause they fear they will get hurt and cant excel at the sport they love the most. Cant really blame them for not playing. Take a big chance of getting hurt especially when 11 guys are trying to kill you when you have the football. You got a horrible line, your a sitting duck. Guess playing for Corbin, Trinity, Highlands, and teams like that wouldn't be to bad though.

yea your right HR what they need is a pat on the fanny and be told how great they are!

Bear Bryant was that way all soft and cuddly

Gosh i typed aweful in that post. I mean let all the kids play all sports as very few from mts are getting full rides or anything past that. Staying busy keeps them outnof trouble
#44
No they don't have to be told how great they are all the time, but once again don't have to be cussed at and called names either. If Knott County cares anything at all about the kids, they WILL NOT hire Chapman, period!

Hell raiser I feel like you have a personal vendetta against chapman. How many rings do you have? Ok enough said. Didn't get 3 rings by bringing up a bunch of cry babies that quit once they get yelled at. Kid I know played for chapman and said he may cuss ya but he's your best friend once your off the field. I guess before too long we will need to start handing out last place district trophies since everyone needs to be positive. Society is terrible these days. There is no discipline in kids. Chapman tries to do that and heaven forbid mommy and daddy don't like their little superstar called a little sissy or anything else to try to get better effort. Chapman won't go to knott anyways. If my son were playing or practicing like a sissy I wouldn't care for a coach to try to get their best effort out of them even if he calls him a pink elephant. But I'm not a softie.

^^^

The difference in football mentality between winning and losing programs in the state, IMO.
#47
Pretty sure I heard Chapman got fired at Perry. Don't know the guy but his reputation definitely precedes him and not necessarily in a good way. I don't think that anyone is oblivious to the fact that coaches yell and say things to their players whether it be basketball or volleyball or football. However, there is a line that can be crossed. Parents want their kids disciplined, but there are coaches that take this way to far. I hope the school board makes the right decision because their decision will either make or break this team guaranteed. When you actually try to teach these young men to be disrespectful to others in order to make them play better, yep you hit the nail on the head, society is pathetic.
#48
Great coaches can motivate without disrespecting and browbeating. If coaches have to revert to these tactics, especially with high school athletes, then they need to look up the word leader in the dictionary.

Lol guess you don't know Chapman either.
#50
I played for Phillip Haywood and he didn't have to cuss at me or anyone else to get us motivated.
#51
different coaches motivate in different ways boys( and I know you hoopsters will say rupp) but it aint its bear Bryant and both of those guys cuss the cain out of their players. FACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#52
I didn't say that a coach should not yell or discipline players, but cursing them out and calling them names a kid should not be called, just crosses a line.

I agree 100%. The teams that are fortunate enough to have discipline kids with strong parents fed into their program are the ones who are going to Bowling Green on a regular basis. This game is all about a mindset, and a lot of that comes from home.
#54
you all had a coach who would not cuss or call kids names and he worked his butt off!! At least that is what I have heard about the guy over the years. So make up your mind what do you want? Hey lets not forget you are Knott Co. its not like you are Bowling Green when is the last time you all had a kid go play college ball on scholarship? I am not talking Union that's not scholarship I am talking EKU, UK etc.... My point is you have nothing there to entice a coach to come the there (athletes, bball hoopsters playing football, pay, facilities, asst coaches, tradition, support, should I go on) and now you want someone like Jesus to come coach football there. And let me remind you Jesus was the only man on earth to be perfect!!!!!!! So you all at Knott Co. take a look at yourself long and hard because from what I here you let a coach go that was as hard a worker as you will find and didn't call the kids names.
#55
So who is the new coach at Knott? They took the posting down almost three weeks ago but no one knows who the new coach is? What are they waiting on over there?
#56
I believe it was Norman (former Shelby Valley and Sheldon Clark....maybe even former Morgan...don't really know that much about him) that was told that he wouldn't be rehired at Perry Central next year...not Chapman. Not that it matters. I just remember what an uproar he cause with the program at Shelby Valley. Sheldon Clark didn't keep him long either.
#57
Like how do you get on the bad side of a 24 year old boy?...If it's true anyway.
#58
He may only be 24.....but he's not deaf, blind or stupid. When you run around trying to stir up trouble.....sooner or later you get caught stirring the pot.
#59
Okay
#60
What I heard was he (norman) was out telling parents that amis should be doing this and amis should be doing that behind the kids back, then after the season amis stuck it to him. So if Chapman does indeed bail to knott county, Coach Amis could be looking for a whole new staff.
