The news isnât all football down at the SEC Meetings in Destin. With several NBA teams courting him, Florida head coach Billy Donovan said yesterday that while heâs committed to the Gators, he canât guarantee heâll be back in Gainesville next season:
âI think when you start making guarantees about life and start making guarantees about where youâre going to be, thatâs not good because if for some reason I ever change my mind and did something, I wouldnât want (people) saying, âWell, he promised, he guaranteed, he said this on record,ââ Donovan said. âI just think when you start doing that, thatâs a mistake.â
Last week, Donovan said heâs been in contact with several NBA teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly being one of them. With Kyrie Irving and yet another number one pick in their pocket, the Cavs are looking pretty appealing right now. Donovan admitted as much yesterday:
âAll I can say is I love Florida, Iâm happy here ⦠the schoolâs been great to me,â he said. âBut at the same point, some of the NBA stuff, as Iâve said before, is intriguing in a lot of ways â the basketball part of it. Thatâs not to say that Iâm unhappy here; thatâs not the case at all.
