That doesn't mean anybody will come in and dominate belfry. Nobody with comparable inrollment dominates belfry. Don't forget about the west though. Now central has to go through lex cath and Boyle. Who would both contend for a 4a state title every year were it not for the south Cincinnati allstar team. Yeah corbin lost a 26-0 lead but don't forget that it was 26-16 at halftime. No amount of first quarter points is enought to win a game in the region championship. Corbin did the smart thing. They took away everything deep and made central complete 8-12 passes every drive to win the game. By doing this corbin put the pressure on central to be perfect. Central got a few calls that kept 2 maybe 3 drives alive. I'm not going to sit here and say that corbin got cheated. I will say however that central got some help. Then on the last two plays of the game central made it happen with a little luck. They still deserve to be there. I really like where this corbin team is headed in the future but that's all I'm going to say about us. As for my prediction on the central belfry game. If belfry runs it between the tackles they win. If they try to force the option outside they lose. Central is to fast. That being said, Phillip Haywood has forgotten more about football than I will probably ever know. My prediction is 28-14 belfry on top. Good luck to the pirates from corbin.Btw, this is an excellent post!

Hard to believe that me and pilot are thinking alike. I have been thinking 20-14 or 20-16 Belfry, although it may come down to the winner only having two TDs and it becomes a battle of extra points or two point conversions.

Pikeville wore Belfry out. A no contest. They didn't get out of second round in 1A. Paintsville got beat next round. Raceland got beat next round. Mayfield is the king of 1A. Can you not follow the progression. Central might give them a game. Belfry not a chance. Mayfield King of the World!

Never said anything about when they would meet just said that it would be a fun game to watch. Strongly disagree about the cakewalk to the region championship. Corbin district is the toughest in 3a imho. The last two years the second round match ups have been bell/central and wayne/corbin. Also don't forget that bell co hasn't won the district championship in two years. That's not putting them down I just think that speaks to how strong our district is.

Pikeville also beat Paintsville early in the season by 54
So using your math.....
Pikeville was 78 points worse by November.
Belfry lost by 9 earlier.
Belfry would beat Pikeville by 69.
Belfry would beat Paintsville by 45.

There are a lot of people talking who obviously didn't watch Corbin vs Central....
Lack of discipline didn't blow the 26 pt lead. Central stopped a Corbin drive, scored, got another stop, scored again before half. Received the 2nd half kickoff and scored a third drive in a row. There was a lack of defensive stops, but beleive me Central earned the points, it wasn't a gift via lack of discipline. The lack of discipline happened when Corbin had the ball 2nd and 8 with a little over a minute left when a Corbin lineman jumped offsides. That was costly, as it probably gave central the opportunity they needed to win the game, given Corbin gained 12 out of the 15 yards they needed on that 4 down series.
With that said, Corbin laid the blueprint to beat Central. They spread the field, and Central had to at a minimum respect the passing game. Corbin ran anywhere they wanted, for the most part. The best way to beat this Central team is to get a few stops and keep their offense on the sidelines via the running game. The longer and slower the scoring drive, the better for Belfry. In my opinion.

That is Belfry's MO. Against Christian Acadmey they had a 21 play 86 yard drive that took over 9 minutes off the clock. Plays right in to Belfry's hands.

Belfry needs to finally beat the Jackets in order to get the monkey off their backs. My observations:
My heart tells me:
Belfry 21
Central 13
However I know Central can never be counted out.
- Central and Belfry are the cream of the current 3A alignment.
- These two coaches know each other well enough that this game is going to be one of the best (again) in BG this year.
- Central will play to the last whistle, always have and always will.
- The last time (2012) Central played Belfry the Central defense was lights out better than this years Jacket defense and a Sophomore Austin Hatfield got his yards. Belfry out gained Central in that outing. Two first quarter fumbles and a missed XP cost Belfry the game.
- The last two times Central and Belfry played either team could have won. Both times it was the Central passing game that pulled off the win with perfectly timed touchdowns.
- The Pirates have to hold onto the football and prolong their drives. If there is anyone in the state who knows that Central is never dead it's the Pirates.
- Belfry is a young team for the most part, I believe only three of the Pirates starting Friday started in the 2012 game.
- Ray Horton is a MAN BEAST! If he can disrupt the passing game like he did Russell's then I like our chances.
My heart tells me:
Belfry 21
Central 13
However I know Central can never be counted out.

22-46 4 int and 5 tds for a total of 459 passing yards does anyone know what this is ?.....Well this is Belfrys one dimensional football game and the inability to pass. So all Central has to do is go back 3 weeks redo what they did against Bell and load the box with 9 to 10 and Belfry will face the same problem. To may athletes in the Box. Now Belfry is big and strong and will score 14 but Central puts up 27.
Central is to much to handle unless Mother nature decided to bless Belfry with another state championship. If it had not been for an Ice storm last year Wayne Co would have spanked them

So much wrong with this post.
For starters the bolded. Why do you feel Central will put up 27 against Belfry? Belfry's defense is much stronger than Bell County and Corbin. Belfry has only allowed 27 twice this year...one of those was to Johnson Central when Belfry was missing 6 defensive starters... the other was to Pikeville.
Secondly, the sour grapes about last year is absolutely unfounded.
Watch the game again and you will see Belfry being hurt by the weather just as much, probably more. Belfry fumbles twice in the redzone including on the one yard line. Belfry also has two wide open TD passes that Taylor had beat his man by 15 yards that Warren couldn't get the ball out to him.
Wayne County only had one drive the entire game that really threatened Belfry and that was the one before the Half.
On a dry field with a dry ball Belfry wins by 2 TD's. Just because Wayne County's offense was built for August doesn't mean they deserve to be State Champs. Wayne had no rushing game and Guffey never felt comfortable throwing across the middle.
To even think Belfry and Bell are comparable offensively shows you have not watched Belfry play. Bell's biggest weakness was lack of speed and playmakers. Big, strong, and slow. That is not Belfry.

You know those conditions affect the running game as well. It make the ball hard to hold on too. So don't give me that mother nature giving Belfry another championship crap. As far as loading the box. Teams have gried it all year. Yeah, none with the speed central has but I do not see Hatfield being stopped. This game could go either way.

Belfry's offense has been clicking and their defense has been lights out. The only thing that can stop Belfry at this point is Belfry. If they play the way they can, with no killer penalties, they can control the clock and keep Central's offense on the sidelines. I see Hatfield getting 20+ carries eating the clock and our defense showing how good they really are. No doubt it will be a good game and come down to who wants it the most in the 4th quarter, but I think Belfry will come out on top.

Belfry's sophomore group were better than Corbin's in Middle School. Just like Corbin's senior group this year was better than Belfry's. Belfry is still playing and Corbin is not. I never said Bell was as good as Belfry just that the game plan will be the same because both teams are 1 dimensional and comparable in that fact. speed will not give you an advantage with a team that can match speed for speed. If Belfry pulls it out it will not be outside of tackle box and speed that wins it for them but physical mountain football inside the tackles since they can't pass.
Corbin had an advantage being able to spread the field Bell didn't have and neither will Belfry.
I did watch the game and that's not sours grapes on the Wayne co/Belfry game last year I was pointing out that a 0-3 game where Wayne Co averaged 38 points a game and Belfry 36 was effected by the weather and to Belfrys advantage.
I see Central on the same level as Pikeville all around team speed to answer you on the 27 points

You said it was an act of Mother Nature that Belfry won the title...that's false. Belfry was certainly better equipped for a rainy day because they were a better running team, but if anything that weather kept it closer than it should have been in Wayne's favor.
Wayne had not had a team all year who could take away their running game and Belfry did just that. Guffey had not had a team all year who could take away his mobility and force him to beat them with accurate throws in the pocket on 3rd and Long. THAT was the single biggest reason Belfry won. You can point to dropped passes, but Sani Warren missed two wide open TD's he usually hits. Dry field Belfry wins that game in the range of 28-14 or 31-14.
People act like Wayne suddenly forgot how to play football in the rain. They beat Central that year in the Regional Finals in a cold downpour and not a soul was complaining about the weather then. Belfry won because they controlled the game's tempo and never gave Wayne the chance to build momentum and find balance. Truth be told Bourbon County impressed me more than Wayne County. Bourbon had more offensive playmakers and a pretty good defense. Wayne was better defensively, but the offense of Bourbon to me was much more dangerous and balanced.

It is crazy to me when I see people throw out the "Mother Nature" defense in regards to an excuse of why someone loses. Sports are just as much mental as they are physical. Teams that do not emphasis the mental part of the game during the season and pre-season are usually the teams that you will see blaming games on "Mother Nature." One thing Haywood has always been able to get his teams to do is play their game regardless of distractions. The weather has always been an issue during state title games, and the reason belfry won is because they were able to address the things mentally that they couldn't control and still find a way to win. I think the belfry/central matchups are great because Central is also a mentally tough team, and they seem to be able to find ways to win regardless of anything that happens. Should be the best game out if the six in my opinion.
