Chasin Bucs Wrote:Belfry has been executing better the past 2 weeks than they have in a while. The offense seems to run smoother with Taylor at QB. Belfry seems to be back to where they were at the beginning of the season, which is wierd to say. You lose your passing threat with Corbett on the sidelines, but lets face it, if our running game isn't running effieciently we aren't going to win big games. the Oline has been dominant the past few weeks, opening some big holes, and just driving kids to the ground every play. I love to see that almost as much as watching Hatfield carry DBs on his back. Our backs have been blocking tremendously better as of late too, which is great because they haven't blocked well for eachother all year.
Hatfield has been on a complete terror the past 2 weeks. Having a healthy backfield really opens things up for him, and when he's getting those big yards, it really opens things up for Catron, Willis and Taylor on the outside. They have been clicking on all cylinders.
The defense has really came alive too, having both Catron and Edwards back. Although our pass coverage is questionable at times, they are both making their presense known with some big hits on the recievers. Horton and company keep pressure on the QB, and opposing teams running game's have been all but non-existent.
I don't see any of that changing this week. Russell will get their yards and make their stops, I don't doubt that one bit. But Belfry will get more yards and make more stops. It's going to be an exciting ball game come Friday night!

In all fairness...our offense has improved due to kids healing up......not because Keaton is back at QB. No disrespect intended...but offensively....the Pirates are much better with Corbett behind center IMO. Belfry is better with Keaton in a RB/HB/SE spot. Our offense was coming together despite the injuries once Corbett settled in and gained some confidence. Both are extremely talented.....however, I truly think Corbett is the better answer.
Whether or not he's available to play this week will be the big question. If he is 100%.......then IMO, he should be the starting QB......

I have heard Noah has been healthy but that Keaton has been tapped as QB until the season is over.

I dont think he was 100% this past week....but someone else may have better info than mine.......
I can see that....since Keaton has played there thru the playoffs. I know every coach strives for consistency and continuity behind center.
Injuries are part of the game....but it's a shame Corbett went down when he did.

Some may think that but the Ohio kids go to Ironton.

Corbett is available, but it is not an injury issue. All I am going to say in a public forum about that.

On another note... Breaking news out of Pirate camp! Austin Woolum MAY and I say MAY, nothing official... be back this Friday...Just saw fresh video of him nailing a 50 yard FG after practice today. When I asked a person in the know, they said he is doing great, and just needs a doctor's release.

Great news pirate fans woolum was recorded today kicking a 50yrd field goal & I hear that he will be leg ready Friday. That will be another big plus for the pirates if true. Has anyone else heard anything about him coming back? I know he looked great kicking today and I mean great

Pretty darn impressive. Shows the heart of that kid.
He got hurt in the Ironton game and has not missed any playing time. He played with pain for quit some time. This kid is the leader of the Russell football team. He is the only player in Russell football history to be a Captain in his junior year. I have been watching Russell football for a very long time and he is one of the best to play. I'm looking forward to him and Hatfield meeting on the field.

Service academies would be good for Austin Hatfield. I'd feel like a safer man with him defending our country one day lol

Can't pick against Belfry in east. Pirates by 8.

I wouldn't say only but I would say first. McKee is a Capt and he is only a Junior.

The offense is a lot better with Taylor behind center. His reads are better, runs the option better and he is bigger threat to break long td runs. Don't kid yourself

FBALL, do you have the individual games of the series and if so could you list them?

Entire Russell vs. Bourbon Game:
Belfry better bring it. Good ball club. Better stay disciplined and tackle low on defense. LB's have to have a good game and Bentley/Horton have to create a push up the middle.
Offensively Belfry's going to have a grind. Very fundamentally sound defense. Maynard has them playing with great confidence.

Watching the BoCo game and through the first half I feel like even though Russell played pretty good football defensively they were aided by a very poorly executing BoCo team. Several muffed kick returns and poor line play (which Bourbon always suffers) and bad decision making kept BoCo out of rhythm. Not trying to discredit the Red Devils because in my eyes any team making this far is a good team. I however feel like the Pirates are 2 TDs better than what I am seeing.
Bourbon also does not seem to have any where near as good of a defense as they had the past two years.

I thought Boubon's defense was really good. Very good linebackers.

They certainly were not bad... but from what I was seeing they were not nearly as instinctive as last year without Mitchell at LB and Hilander at Safety. The LB's moved well and pursued fast once they found the ball but they seemed to have a hard time reading the Russell offense at times (Credit to Russell).
Mitchell was the best defensive player Belfry saw last year. He was all over the place. Hilander at his Safety position wasn't necessarily the guy forcing the issue at the LOS, but Belfry never could break "the long one" because he did such a great job at Safety making sure that the moment Belfry got to the second level the open field tackle was made. Belfry had a lot of 8-12 yard gains, but I think they only had one or two runs over 20 yards all night.
Bourbon continues to struggle up front and this year's team appeared to be no different. They did look better at DE though..a little more athletic and faster.

I did not mean to imply the BoCo defense was bad by any means, just that they did not seem to be at the same level they way the past 2 years.

They looked slightly better than 2 years ago but not as good as last year to me.

Russell needs to execute better on offense than they have the last two weeks. Only 17 points against an injury riddled Bourbon Co. The 32 points against Estill Co. are a bit deceiving (2tds were the result of pick 6's).
Korzep. Conley. McKee. Those three names will be called repeatedly when Russell has the ball. They have combined for 3,041yds and 30tds rushing. McKee has added another 1,061yds and 13tds passing.
It's probably too late in the season to expect a new name to emerge. If one of Russell's WR's were to have a breakout game, it would be a welcomed and pleasant surprise. Sophomores Brewer and Brinkman have a lot of potential, and 6'3" Robinson could present a matchup problem.
