Russell @ Belfry 11/28(State Semi-final)
LClion4life Wrote:Was Pope not a transfer himself?
Transferred straight in from Mingo Central
LClion4life Wrote:Yes, you saw Todd in college playing against SEC defenses with future pros all over the place. But keep telling yourself Pope would have put up better numbers on the same team. Confusednicker:
Played against Pope when he was a freshman and sophomore, he was a good QB but even I've played against far better. Quit talking up a kid that doesn't even play football anymore. His team lost last year, his football career is over. It's over.
Who was far better?
samson81 Wrote:I hope you guys are a little nicer this time as opposed to last two times Russell made the trip down that way.

OUCH!!! Hoping for a more competitive game this time.

See I'm not... there's nothing worse than being anxious/nervous/cold... We prefer to be celebrating by halftime! Lol
Football Junky Wrote:Who was far better?

Neal Pawsat (Mason County, now at Georgetown College) and Adam Wing (Rowan County, now plays basketball at Evansville University).

Nicholas County ya mean.

Pawsat no way. Watched him at gtown & he can't run 5 feet. Big arm not near as accurate. Saw wing play very similar not quite as good a runner. Wing had good size that got him recruited

skully03 Wrote:You may have faced bruising fullbacks before but I guarantee you haven't faced one like MR. HATFIELD!!!! By far the best full back I have seen in HS football. Majority of the time it's takes 2-3 players to bring him down and he carries them for 4-5 yards.

With runs like that he would carry the ball each and every time. I have never seen a player like you describe. Wow what a kid.

I guess Holman & Hopkins couldn't play either
Is this a Belfry/Russell thread or a thread about QB's from schools not named Belfry/Russell that played 5 to 10 years ago? I'm a little confused... lol.
Football Junky Wrote:I guess Holman & Hopkins couldn't play either

Yes they can, two great backs. Two big reasons Pope had so much success at Bourbon. If Bourbon wasn't so good at running the ball when he was there, Pope is an average QB at best.

You are a young, nut who needs to learn more about the game before u make comments like that

Guess other topics coming up because probably not going to be a very good game Friday. Seen both play. Belfry 44-10
Belfry will only lose 7 players from years team. Only 6 of them start. Belfry's 8th grade team has won the state title for their division for the last three years. I think they will be back as strong as ever for the next four years, maybe even stronger.

Then you should come watch him play. Fullback that runs for 150+. You're right. Wow what a kid.

Going to be interesting next season with chuck smith at Boyle, they are really good and fundamentally sound. Catholic and their new coach have improved dramatically and they have a ton of players and Tons of talent. I don't know whose in the east or west? Would be a great game next year if Belfry met one of those in semi or finals

Based on seeing both teams play, where do you believe Belfry separates itself from Russell? I want to believe that the Devils can hold their own in the trenches. Maybe too much Belfry speed at the skill positions will be the difference?

I take it you're a Colonel supporter... If so, it's unfortunate that Holman's career ended like it did. A player of his caliber deserved better. Best of luck to you guys next year in 4A. With Highlands and CovCath moving up and Boyle Co. and LexCath moving down, it's going to be wide open.
Lets just get back to the title on this thread. How bout you start your own thread junkie. We have discredited your knowledge of football time and time again. How about this RUSSELL and BELFRY GAME!!!! Should be a good one.

Nicholas County

Bourbon changed their name to CKY Magnet School. hey have had transfers from Lafayette, Nicholas County, Harrison County, Paris, and Scott County in the past two years alone.

No school in KY has benefitted more from lax transfer rules than Bourbon.
It's been a few years since we have seen Russell go this far in the playoffs and it is a direct result of the new head coach and his staff. In reading all the posts on here regarding this game it is very apparent that the Belfry fans a very proud of there team and Russell has very little chance to win. No one ever expected Russell to be in the position to play against the defending state champions. I don't think Russell has faced a team of Belfry's caliber this year. Ironton and Pikeville may have come close. I have always enjoyed the trip down to spikerman and now the cam. I think I got that right. One thing I can tell you for a fact from listening to the boys is that Each and every Russell player will be ready for the game. They will play hard every play and will not give up. I know Belfry will do the same and it should be a good game.

Just wondering how big this Hatfield kid is. I think he was the one that carries 3 to 4 tacklers for 4 to 5 yards most of the time.

He's a better kid than he is a football player, trust me.

He is a special talent at FB...

See for yourself where some of the hype comes from against a very good Southwestern team:
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2244865/high.../167475120

He can be stopped...but it has to be by numerous defenders at the LOS. If Hatfield gets a head of steam into the LOS he is usually getting 4-5 yards one way or another. He was the Finals MVP last year and had Belfry held on for the win in 2012 would have been the Finals MVP that year as well.

Some one else like EKU or bucslover is prob more accurate but I would say he is about 5'9" or so maybe a lil shorter. Not sure on his weight but he is built like a bull dozer. He has legs like tree trunks and I'm. Not joking when I said he has carried guys 4-5 yards. He is tough to bring down and his speed surprised me last Friday breaking one for almost 70 yards for a td up the middle as a matter of fact. By far the best fullback I would say in kentucky.

So if my calculations are right he should have about 1950 yards for the season at the minimum because you said 150+. I would say for a fullback in high school that is amazing. Very few running backs can match that. I guess I'm off to the KHSAA website to check how many are over 1950 yards to this point.

I assure you my football knowledge is legit. Just not a die hard Belfry fan like most on here so you get upset with that. That being said good luck next week. 44-10 belfry

Seriously you are trying to play this card?

You have been around for a long time and I have always liked you... stop trying to play the "poor poor pitiful Russell" card.

But since you want to go that way he has over 1250 yards through 13 games and his last two games has averaged around 170.

If Belfry advances past Russell it is likely he will flirt with 1500 yards from the FB position. say what you want and try to downplay it..but that is simply phenomenal from a FB who every team who has played Belfry has gameplanned to try and take him out of the picture.
He rushed two weeks ago for over 170 and last week over 160 I believe. Now granted he doesn't do that every game with the talent that the pirates have in the backfield in Willis , Catron, Taylor, and others.
