Ashland @ Fort Thomas Highlands 11-14

Thanks for the analysis!

I went to the Highlands-Boyd game Friday...If I counted correctly, FTH played 5 different guys at QB.....and dressed 84, which is down from a couple years ago. Their "speedy" receiver is very fast. The QB threw 2 bombs (40+) that were thrown very early and he would run down field, angle over (easily beating the safety and corner) and make some very nice catches. Ashland will need Quinton playing safety every play to have even a chance at stopping this kind of play. But then you deal with the short game and the moves the receivers can make after catch.....and they're VERY fundamentally sound. I could go on and on.....good luck Tcats, but don't see anything but a running clock by halftime in this one.

Do you really want your starting RB running 40 yards on every play on D?

C'mon Harry! He was talking about the cheer squad being more physical.

Would love to see Ashland win, but Bluebirds are just too good. Highlands wins 55-20

HHS goes deep in the playoffs and goes on to the championship game where it is cold and snowy... And they still put up big numbers. Weather will not be a factor. Unless there is lighting and thunder.

No but Long and Baker both will be at safety and it will be very hard for anyone to get behind them. Both can fly!!

In that case HHS will run towards and right at them.

Two years ago Ashland went to Highlands with a team much better than they sport this year and held their own for a half. What very few seem to realize is that whatever physical advantage you may have 1-20 is negated due to exhaustion. You may be a step or even two faster when everyone is fresh, problem is their guys are always fresh and you will lose your two steps in the second half. For Ashland to be in this game they cannot sit back a let the game be dictated to them. They must take some chances with some different stunts and they must move some players around and give them the chance to make plays. I would not play Baker at safety I would play him more like a Polamalu and use his speed in as many ways as I could on defense. I would try to use a backer with a delayed blitz as well or move him to D end if they empty the backfield. If the weather is bad it may not stop the air attack but it will affect it. I would do my best to not let them get into a rhythm. This is also a game that it would have been nice to have a healthy Josh Vaugn at fullback. It hurts to not have him on field. The last two trips there Ashland has had some success running with the fullback. Maybe Sutton can assume that role. I wouldn't leave anything on the shelf for this one, there are no moral victories. I hope all stay healthy and the game isnt decided until late. Good luck to all.

Maybe you need to go over an give Love some advice. Ashland will have to try and find a way to keep their Studs fresh. O' Byran will be a key on Defense. Hope Ashland moves him around and let's him make plays. Kid can really bring it. Look for Ashland to move their starting safety's to DTs to try and get some pressure on the QB.

I'm going with the Tomcats. I hope they lay the smack down on the twittybirds.

I think you want to contain Hoge in the pocket, he is very very dangerous when scrambles. He is very elussive!

I think the keys to this game are slowing down the CC passing game. If JC can get pressure on the QB and make him throw quick this will hurt CC. If they give the QB alot of time CC will gain the advantage. I do not think CC can beat JC with the run.

If JC can establish the ground game and pound and grind and eat the clock, and thow in some play action passes, it could be a long night for CC. JC has more speed this year, more passing and a big fullback. For some reason most of the Northern KY schools have trouble stopping a big fullback.

This will be a tight game, but I pick JC becase they are home and have a legit kicker if the game is close.

"School and District results for overall assessment accountability were released Friday, October 3rd by the Ky Dept of Education. These results are from the Spring 2014 Unbridled Learning: College and Career Readiness Assessment program which includes achievement scores, growth scores, gap scores, college and career readiness scores, and graduation rate. Overall, the Johnson County School District earned a Distinguished Rating for student performance on the state assessment, with a total district score in the 96th percentile ranking. (Only 4 percent of the 173 school districts performed better than Johnson County). School districts scoring in the 90th percentile and above receive the "distinguished" honor. Johnson County is the sixth highest scoring COUNTY system in Ky. out of 120 county school systems and the 13th highest among all 173 school districts."

Say what you like about the high school's football team, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with a Johnson County education. That being said, I'm pretty sure we won't win the football game being discussed here...

Highlands the games I have watched them try and hit the home run ball and press it even though they are having success with the run and short pass. Hopefully Highlands doesn't play their A game and Ashland does. Shorten the game and get it to the 4th within striking distance and maybe just maybe pull off a huge upset.

Wait I'm confused here. CC and JC? I thought this was an Ashland and FT Highlands thread.

Ahh. Hope springs eternal. I believe that Custer had the same analysis immediately prior to Little Big Horn. In this one, Ashland is obviously Custer. The result, as in all other recent years, will be the same.

Ashland is not Custer. Custer was routed because he was overconfident and disregarded scouting reports that showed he had underestimated his opponent. There is no danger that the Tomcats will ignore their scouting reports.

Like Ashland, Custer faced a superior force - but Custer did not recognize the strength of his opponent before the opening kickoff. Ashland's coaches and players know that they need to play a perfect game and hope for a few breaks to have any chance to hang with Ashland into the 4th quarter. Will it matter? Probably not, but overconfidence will be much more of a problem for Highlands than for Ashland.

Good post, Hoot. What Ashland may lack in overconfidence, they make up for with an massively inflated opinion of themselves and their imaginary "tradition". That may not be overconfidence but it is similar. Still, it shouldn't effect the end result.

yeah Vennamen might be the fastest kid in the state. Highlands should win by a couple scores

He may be better coached, but I doubt he can out sprint both those two on raw speed.

Go look up his track results from last year. He's pretty raw himself.
