The Big 8 in 1A Football
It's time to trim this list to the Fabulous Five.
Hazard is out. The injury bug has bitten them hard.
Frankfort is out. Losses to a mediocre Franklin Co. club, and a 6-4 First Baptist Academy (FL) does not bode well for them. Beechwood should win easily.
Russellville is out. They have not beaten one quality team. Mayfield will be ready for game 2 against them.
Slow down, it will be decided soon.

Don't count Hazard or Frankfort out just yet? Do not count your district foe neither.
Hazard has had key injuries each season except for last year. But don't count them out just yet because they are riding a 22 game win streak at home during the playoffs and are right now 23-1 under Coach Dixon at home. Hazard will be a hard out at home..

Frankfort is getting healthy and will be a hard out as well.i am sure those kids will play much harder against Beechwood than against there county rival. But let's be honest Beechwoods best wins are against Franklin County and Cov Cath who are nothing to what they were last year..

Mayfields best win is over Caldwell and there just a few points away from being undefeated.

Pikeville actually has a pretty good résumé as bad as I hate to say it. They are a good team can beat anybody on any given night.

The east is much improved from last year and I think who ever comes out of the east will keep it competitive..

I think you're underestimating Beechwood by a lot. Franklin, Covington Catholic, and NCC were all good wins. However, the significance of the Covington Catholic game is what you're not seeing, and it speaks highly of how much they've improved and shows their on a different level than they were early on. Dixie Heights beat them in the second week of the season. Dixie is no slouch team and their only loss this year has been an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Covington Catholic 41-7. Then four weeks after Dixie beats Beechwood, beechwood puts up a 28-13 win over Covington Catholic. That is a pretty significant turnaround and anyone that isn't adding Beechwood into the discussion for a state title is crazy. I would hate to be the team having to play them. I think Beechwood and Mayfield, if it happens, could end up being a classic game.
Beechwood is very dangerous. Expect to see them and Mayfield line up in a couple of weeks.

I think things are goina shake out to be one of the best post seasons of 1A football that we have had in a long LONG time.

No I am not under estimating them.. Beechwood is much improved I will not a test that but you know those teams aren't as good as last year. But beechwood does benefit at playing at home all four games if they make it to get the 4th.. They need to not take Frankfort lightly because they have a few injuries..

I was lucky enough to see them against Franklin and I was shocked at how good beechwood is. The last beechwood game I had seen was in 2011 when Mayfield beat them by less than a touchdown in the final four. That year I learned how tough mayfield is because Beechwood played a much tougher schedule and also out scored every team in 1A by close to 100 points, but Mayfield found a way to shut that offense down. That's why I think regardless of who it is, mayfield will always be the favorite.

Covington Catholic may have lost a few more games this year but they are not a team to roll your eyes at when a good team beats them. Were talking about a team that blew out a Dixie heights team and handed them their only loss. Not too mention a Dixie team that is a contender for the 6A Title and also blew out another 6A contender in simon Kenton by 26 points. So anytime you beat a team that embarrassed either of these two it is a more than a solid win.
Mayfield is still the favorite over everyone in 1A but Beechwood has the best chance of upsetting them before the championship game.
I will not deny that Beechwood has a chance to upset them but Russellville is no slouch and has a pretty good shot as well..,

Dixie did lose to them in the 1st game of the season and its hard to judge because Cov Cath has declined while Dixie has improved from that game.. I say if those teams played again I would take Dixie..
Scotty_Bronson Wrote:that still escapes me. no one has ever really been able to give me a clear cut answer as to why the Yellowjackets, are orange. Last year there was an interesting thread or conversation in a certain thread, on the similarities of the Raceland and Williamsburg programs/schools. All the way down to Jersey colors and mascot names changes.

Of course, one thinks yellow/black with "Yellowjackets", but Williamsburg won't use those because they're Middlesboro's colors. Only thing which makes sense to me...

I understand the concept of what you're getting at, and if Covington Catholic would've beat them by a touchdown or less then I'd agree with you. However, 41-7 is a blowout no matter when it happens.
So do you think these are the same teams as before??
So, most think it will be a rematch of last year's final?
It will shake out next Friday. Only contenders left next week.
Not a Panther fan but for what it's worth I bet their there in the end.....

their what?
[quote=pjdoug]their what?[/QUOT

He didnt specify it clearly. I think he meant pikeville will be holding a gold trophy, or he could of meant the silver one, or maybe setting up in the stands drinking hot chocolate to stay warm watching someone else play.
Or maybe he meant they would do an end around? But around their what?

:pondering:
mayfield_9 Wrote:Or maybe he meant they would do an end around? But around their what?

Probably an end around the goal post, and back to the locker room to get in the fetal position, that is if the team with red helmets are there opponents.
some of this trash talk is epic. and hats off for everyone staying fun about it all. this year has been a bit heated at times. really lookig foward to the REAL playoffs starting next week.

Yeah its all in fun, but i really have no clue how it will all pan out.
i dont either. its goina be BW or MF from the west. neither Frankfort or Russellville have the depth to really beat them, especially on the road. In the east, its Pikeville/Wburg as the neck and neck favorites with Raceland and then Hazard both having a shot. Imo, Homefield advantage has never meant more with these teams being so equal for the most part.
