Don't let a bad showing by Williamsburg last year overwhelm your decision making. Just like any area there are several bad teams and there are a few good teams in the mix that play high level football. You can make digs at Belfry having WV players or JC not beating Highlands, but in reality there are SEVERAL teams from the Louisville area that couldn't beat teams in eastern KY. Not only that, Louisville and Indiana and Ohio and NK teams have a much longer and more extensive relationship in regards to transferring players than anyone in eastern KY and West Virginia. A couple of you have made comments that the East will be overwhelmed by any team they play from the West, however, you know about as much about them as they do you. I've been able to see several games on both sides this year now that I'm back in Lexington, and I can tell you with absolute certainty the great teams in the east can play with anyone in their class.

Agree. No doubt about it. Pikeville, like many other communities in the mountains has, and still depend on the coal industry for their livelihood. However through diversification, the impact wouldn't be quiet as devastating, imo.

A couple of years ago, I thought there was a legitimate shot for a West Laurel.
Never happened, and im under the assumption there is no plans for it going forward. There was once a bunch of high school in Laurel until they consolidated into Laurel County High, only to be split into the two you have today. There definitely getting over populated im sure.
Ive never understood why there wasn't a London Independent that started up at some point in history.
Well, my contacts say they haven't bought the property yet, but that it is in the works. The 2 schools they have there now are getting way over crowded - according to the guys I work with who have kids that go to school there. There used to be a London High School, that was an independent school until the consolidation - where I understand they took London, Bush, Lily and Hazel Green High School's to make Laurel County High School, then later that school split in to North and South. That area in particular seems to be growing in industry and jobs, crossroads there that make it really appealing to those looking for new opportunities for work related projects. :eyeroll:

Not only banks, don't forget lawyers. That's about all that downtown has turned into. Like many small towns, most business is outside of downtown, and government/law/bank/funeral homes make up most of the towns now. The basic Wal-Mart affect.

Why couldn't they add-on constructionally and with personnel instead of adding a whole different school? It seems like that'd make more sense in regards to monetary aspects of the situation. I just hate to see those two schools split up. Usually when that happens, all of the prominent athletes end up at the same place and the other two become very mediocre in everything except maybe track and tennis. I know not everything is decided on due to athletics, but most of it is.

I am guessing here, just knowing the lay of the land down there so to speak. They may go more toward the Corbin area to build another school, since Laurel County is in what is considered Corbin by many around the area. I am just guessing on that, someone from that area may well know a lot more than I do and speak up about it.

They have been looking a land in southern laurel county for a few years now. From every thing I've heard the new school if built will be somewhere around the keavy area or north Corbin area.

If all the independents in single A start consolidating with other schools, the class will become very difficult to set up districts in, logistically. if Pikeville consolidates with the Corbin/Laurel schools, that takes then away from Single A. If the South Floyd, Allen Central consolidation were to happen that would take them out. there has been talk over the years of Fairview schools being absorbed by the Boyd County district (part of the reason they built the new BCHS with so much space). That would only leave a handful of teams left to make up what is now the eastern side of single A. i think they should push the East/West line a little further west. never made sense to me that for idk how many years, Beechwood, NCC, Bellevue, and Dayton were all in the east. its all messed up. we need a 5 class system. i think it would make more sense logistically as well as competitively. but what do i really know lol

If they were to open a new, that would be the best choice, as all of north London is taken up by North, and South is spread out from in town all the way to the Corbin city limits.
More than anything, the state law keeping a town from reaching into more than two counties is whats absurd. North Corbin should be Corbin city limits. No question about it. After all they don't call exit 29 the south London exit. Its Corbin just like exit 25. When teams come to play Corbin from north, im sure they get off exit 29 instead of in south Corbin. At least that would be much quicker.

You do understand just how far Pineville is from Corbin right?
If Pineville ever need absorbed, it would fall to Bell County, which is only 5 minutes up the road, not to mention the school in IN Bell County.
Heck, you've got all of Knox County in between Pineville and Corbin. That means Bville, Knox Central, and Lynn Camp are all closer to Pineville than Corbin is.
If a Laurel County school is ever opened up in North Corbin, than Lynn Camp will suffer the most. A lot of those kids over in Keavy and around the wal mart area attend Lynn Camp instead of going to South. If it weren't for the decent size population in Grays and West Knox, im not sure Lynn Camp would even exist. A lot of those parents send there kids to Corbin for the sole reason of academics anyways.

Going down 25E in a school bus at 55 mph from Corbin to Pinville feels just as long as going from Hazard to Pikeville IMO. Little shorter distance, but its a horrible drive.

Sorry gut but your are dead wrong!!! Do you even know where Keavy is??? No one in that area sends their kids to Lynn Camp. If they don't go to South they will send their kids to Corbin if they can afford the tuition. Since laurel co and Corbin do not a agreement on money.
Of the kids that live in the Keavy area 99% go to South laurel while the other 1% attends Corbin none go to Lynn Camp.

im sorry. i misread a post before mine and assumed the poster was infering a pikeville/Corbin consolidation. they were not. my point is idk how they would be able to have enough eastern single A schools if consolidation happens among the independents with the way they have the East/West border the way it is now.

You should check again. I knew several kids that lived in the Keavy area that attended Lynn Camp.
There addresses might not have said it, but they did. One of my co workers kids attended lynn camp. They lived in Keavy. Its more common than you think. A lot of kids that live past the loves truck stop heading toward the lake attend lynn camp, or at least have at some point.

About half way down 92 coming from Pineville, is a left turn and I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the community. Any who...that's where we used to drag race when I was in college!

Well, being that Corbin is within 3 counties, they could just about go anywhere!!! BUT I highly doubt Pineville will cross county lines for consolidation purposes.

I believe that side of the county is the one taking the most hits in terms of population loss. I could see Phelps MAYBE folding in with Pike Central or Belfry, but unlikely. They are just too remote with no EASY access.
