Raceland at Ashland 8/29
#61
Just watched his hudl video from last year. I hope we can keep O'Brien out of the backfield.

Raceland is a very good team and have built a really nice program, I just think Ashland, especially at Putnam Stadium is a better team. If the field is good and the Tomcats can run the ball, I have Ashland over Raceland 42-24.

How did Long end up at Ashland? Was there a job transfer from Ironton to Ashland? I'm sure there was no advance contact.

Ashland wins in a close one.
Ashland 35

He wanted to trade in his orange and white for maroon and white. Kid can fly. The whole town is pretty excited about the game tonight. I think Ashland will crush Raceland.

I think this game would be one to watch in the eastern part of the state tonight. Two teams with an awesome offensive attack. Great game to go see.

And what attracted him to the maroon and white since, I assume, his family didn't relocate in Ashland. To be honest, I don't see any attraction since his new team will not advance in the playoffs. Is he or some of his family working at ASG?

No they don't and believe it or not, he has a better chance of winning a title at Ashland then at Ironton. 5000 plus will beg to differ with you on the attraction Harry.

Long and Baker, Baker and Long, both 4.4. Throw in Prince too, Racelands coach said that those 3 are the fastest kids his team will face all season, and all 3 on the same team.

Only if Raceland makes a lot of mistakes and gives up big plays. Should be a close game.

You never really explained just how the matriculation was set up and occurred but that was expected. As for championships, I guess 1 in 1,000 is better than 1 in 1,001. Nonetheless, your unshakeable loyalty is to be commended. You remind me of all those UK fans who are so optimistic in August.

Longs family lives in Ashland. Longs mom is a nurse and works in Huntington and his father is a teacher for ICS. Neither work at ASG nor anywhere in Ashland. Long came to Ashland for more than athletics. So did all of his siblings....anything else I can clear up for you?

Let me get this straight. Mom works in Huntington, West Virginia. Dad teaches in Ironton, Ohio. Thus, the family moves from Ironton, Ohio to Ashland, Kentucky. And, of course, it wasn't for athletic purposes because that would be in violation of the by-laws of the KHSAA. The move wasn't for better academics, lower crime rate, better economy, a lower cost of living, better weather, or better shopping and the commutes to work lengthened. And, again, you assured us that it wasn't for athletics. So, I guess you better clear it up for the rest of us. And, while you are at it, reassure us about Santa Claus.

Half of Cov Cath and FTH players live in the greater Cincy area give me a break

even if you are right no worse than anything that goes on in your neck of the woods Harry. Pot and kettle. Its part of being on the river kids come across it

Harry,

My commute actually shortened. The shopping is better. The cost of living is about the same. The economy is tons better. BUT the satisfaction of seeing my kids happy and knowing they are safe is PRICELESS.

Oh and Santa...he is a fat man in a red suite. He lives in the north pole but rumor has it he's moving to Ashland too!

Strong allegations, T-CATS. Care to back them up with facts. And, of course, you never addressed my post but, then, I didn't figure that you would or could with any degree of honesty.

It sounds like you are admitting that, in regard to you boys, there is good degree of fire with the obvious smoke. As for up here in the Greater Cincinnati area, allegations with no proof just come with success. CovCath is a private school. It has no boundaries. Of course it doesn't operate off government greenbacks either. As for FTH, successful programs with stellar traditions always garner badmouthing. It is kind of like if you can't beat them whine about them. Jealousy is not a positive trait. In the end, you win because you are better and you lose because you are not.

I'm not saying it was any recruiting on Ashlands parts or that of fth or any other program. But successful programs recruit themselves. Just like fort Thomas. In the tri-state area of ky oh and wv Ashland and Ironton are top dogs. With Ironton being down since bob Lutz retired parents are looking to other area schools for there Childs exposure without having to leave behind friends, family, and employment. In our area Ashland is the top choice over schools such as Fairview Russell coal grove Fairland etc... So while most transfers are athletic related that does not mean there was any cheating on the schools part.

It sounds like you are making a bit of a confession of possible recruiting which, of course, violates By-Law 16 of the KHSAA. Ashland does have a reputation for such activity but, since it never competes for championships, no one gives it much thought. A friend of mine who lives in Russell tells me that, if a student changes schools in your area for academics and accolades, he/she goes to Russell. As for athletic programs which have had success, it appears from a review of the records, a student would likely choose Russell or Raceland or one of the Huntington schools. Raceland is also known for good academics. Johnson Central, highly regarded in athletics and academics, may be too long a drive.

It can be seriously argued as to your feeling that Ashland is a "top dog" in your area. I suspect your opinion is as somewhat of a "homer"- which is natural.

You are correct that both FTH and CovCath attract outstanding students in athletics and academics because of past and present success in both disciplines. Success recruits. I don't think, if we are really honest, that there is a remote comparison between those two and Ashland. But, one should always, as the Beach Boys so aptly sang, be true to your school.

I disagree I would say if a student/students parents has both academics first and athletics in mind that Russell is top dog around here but keep thinking what you want to think.:ChairHit:

^^^i agree. Russell, academically is the top dog. Then Raceland and Ashland are probably on the same tier. All three schools offer alot. I really have alot of reapect for the music departmet at Russell.

From my sources in both education and business in your area, I would say that GOREDDEVILS is right on target and that recent history shows his post to be true.

Harry you sure are awful interested in the CATS. Closet fan I guess. Shoot me your address will send you a Tomcat shirt. Ashland is near the top in all sports and academics in this area and Russell hasn't beaten us in Football in years. Russell is one of if not the best in academics. Russell won't even play Raceland because their next door neighbors were getting the best of them.

We may not have beat you in football in a while, but we beat you fairly regularly in most sports. We kicked your tail in girls soccer 7-0 and beat you in volleyball 3 games to 1. There is more to high school sports than just football. The time is coming to where Russell will start winning football games against Ashland in varsity again.

You are saying Ashland is guilty of recruiting but you have not shown any proof. Has The khsaa investigated Ashland? Has anyone on the Ashland coaching staff had to serve a game suspension for violations like another team you speak highly of? And again do you have any proof of any wrong doing by the Ashland football program? You want proof to someone's accusations about northern Kentucky teams. Where's your proof.
As for Mr. Long. I assure you his families decision to come to Ashland was based on the families happiness and well being and not athletics. And quit honestly if you don't have proof proving otherwise it is not anyone's business.
You seem like an intelligent person. I don't know what your dislike for Ashland is but we must be doing something right or you would not be spending so much time and energy spewing your arrogance to discredit Ashland.
