What I will say is this...the Lit Rating argument is a good one..but a flawed one. Until someone can find the Final Lit Rating it is essentially useless as the "end all" of discussion.
For decades now the Lit Ratings have been perceived as the most inaccurate rating used. It has long been questioned do to the "magic number" it begins with and how it weighs strength of schedule geographically. Even in the present it takes criticism and you only have to go back to last season to see ranking late in the season which had Paducah Tilghman and McCracken County among the Top 10 overall teams in the State... two teams who were exposed as having an inflated ranking shortly there after. Even you have to admit that ranking was awful at best looking back at it for two teams who probably were not within 2-3 TD's of the best teams in their respective classes.
With that said it is a valid argument made because it is the only one with evidence to back it up at this time. Until someone can either find the Final Lit or AP Poll, or post the National Ranking... it is all we can go off. Truth be told I have no clue how to find said info and frankly wouldn't waste the time to do it just to defend those Pikeville guys
If this is the only info that can be produced I will gladly say I mis-spoke based off hearsay I had always heard and that I was wrong in making such a bold statement that they were nationally ranked and ranked as one of the top teams in the entire state.

Don't think anyone disputes they were one of the top teams in the entire state. If they do dispute it a.) they didn't see all the finals, b.) weren't there to hear all the chatter about who the best team there was, and c.) doesn't have any sense.

Son you are plumb eat up with it, what a nutbag lol...
Take a pill, take fewer pills, do something.nicker:
Still don't see the final Litratings for 1987. Mayfield finished with 2 losses and Pikeville didn't have a close game. I will give you the 1978 poll but BFD. The 1987 Pikeville team would crush the 1978 Mayfield team as well as the 1987 Mayfield team. And the Pikeville 1988 and 1989 teams are right up there with any Mayfield team.
The only thing I was way off base about was my now shattered belief that Mayfield fans were some of the most knowledgeable out there and acted like they have been there before. But you Mayfield fans on here don't seem to know football better than anyone else and you act worse than all the mountain fans on here who like to rib their opponents. And nutty to boot.

Wow Jet, lighten up it's all in fun but do enjoy your crow
The facts brought out in Hatz links in post #112 did your argument in but that was a great Pikeville team and we all know that just not #1 in the state overall like the 78 Cards
Fun thread!

What facts? Litratings before the playoffs? Don't think that has one thing to do with my arguments about the Pikeville 1987 team. Yes, the thread is fun and I had to rag on 55 for posting several times a day looking for me.:devilflam

I think someone has issues with admitting when they make mistakes. Could someone need a trip to the therapist?

I saw the finals that year and thought Pikeville was just as good as any team I saw that weekend. And many others said the same thing.
I would say however that it would have been an excellent matchup with that Danville team that season. The Ads had a large line, great RB's, and tremendous athletes as well. Played a great game with Mayfield that they squeaked out in OT but racked up quite a lot of yards on the ground doing so. It would have been interesting.
BTW, for what it's worth, Danville did have one loss. Against St X in the 2nd game of the year. Other than that they pretty much decimated the rest of the teams they played except for Mayfield.

Don't make the decision alone. Talk to your wife about it and make the decision together. Good luck!

That's funny jet. I will give you one there. You were wrong about the whole Pikeville vs Mayfield thing but, that was a good one there.

It's ok killer. I think jet has figured out he was wrong now. He won't admit it until after a few sessions with his counselor but he knows.

I wonder if those pikeville pasties could of covered xavier shelton?
08-13-2014, 09:01 PM
You won't find many people in the state all time that could cover him. I looked back at even the loss to LCA in 09. He was playing with a pulled hamstring and his stats in that game still rank in our top ten ever games by a rec.

Nimby Wrote:I wonder if those pikeville pasties could of covered xavier shelton? That is pretty close to, if not, a violation of rules. Please word your posts more carefully.

How is that anywhere close to a violation?
08-14-2014, 01:04 PM
mysonis55 Wrote:How is that anywhere close to a violation?I don't think people would be thrilled with the use of an equivalent to "pasties" in reference to another ethnicity. The rules are pretty explicit when it comes to it.
Now did I read too much into it? Very possible, but part of my role on here is to make sure stuff like that does not occur. And I am sure there are some that would read into it that way. That is why I asked to be more careful with phrasing. Intent can be without malice, but that doesn't mean everyone can see the intent. (The most liberal thing I have ever said lol). We just want to make sure BGR is a place people can talk without having to worry about that kind of stuff being thrown out.

I know I'm waaaaaay off topic. It was cool looking at the old schools that no longer exist or have football programs anymore. I never realized that Kentucky had nearly 200 schools with football programs.

Aren't pasties the sticky things that strippers wear to cover certain body parts?
08-14-2014, 05:23 PM
mysonis55 Wrote:Aren't pasties the sticky things that strippers wear to cover certain body parts?Lol yes, in addition to a, granted uncommonly used, racial slur for white people, which makes a lot of more sense in the context of the statement than something a stripper would wear. Like I said, it may not have been the intent, but better safe than sorry. It is not a big deal, we all are guilty of sometimes wording things in a way that we would like to have done differently. Just a reminder to think twice when we post. Nothing more.
