Free Kicks standing as FG records. Agree or disagree?
#31
Scotty_Bronson Wrote:Not taking away its impressive and is a record. But it is in fact called a FREE KICK. For a reason.

Let talk facts. How many points a field goal worth? How may points a Free Kick worth? How does the KHSAA view it? Did this kick not meet the requiremetns for the KHSAA to be consider a state record? So in the world according to SCOTT_BRONSON these facts are not enought. You keep saying I mean no dis-respect than you go on and dis-respect the kid. Move on and stop the hate. :dudecomeon:

Awful lot of hurt feelings over an OPINION!!!

Its a shame that people get on here and cant handle someone stating an opinion when its not in favor of their team or a kid on their team. The thing is, I never called any kid out, never called a team out, all i ever said was in general they should be in seperate categories. Idk why everyone got all bent out of shape. Im done talking about it. Not worth it when people cant have a conversation with out people getting upset over ones opinion.

I think the hurt feelings originally started with the FACT, which is that the fair catch free kick officially counts as a FG and this one is officially a state record. Now just because someone actually read the rule book and used a rule in it to break a record legally, people get upset. Should it count as a FG? Obviously, somebody thought so, because it's in the rule book at every level from HS to NFL. Hell, in Canada you get a point for kicking the ball through the endzone. We'd score 4 or 5 a game on touch backs. Be glad that rule isn't on the books here...

And this kid to my knowledge has never been to a football kicking camp. He's taught himself so far, if I am not mistaken, based on his soccer experience. Wait til some college and pro instructors get a hold of him. Sky is the limit.

The shame is that and adult would get on her and put into quetion the hard work and effort it took to achieve the state record. If that was not your intent I am sorry but that is what happen.

Call it what you want to call it but 60 yard kick is amazing and to kick it accurately for a 15 or 16 year old kid. Thats great congrats to tyler pack

And I hope it hits D.M. right in his headset.

lol...At first glance, I thought you were going to say that you hoped it would hit him right in the mouth....haha, My first thought was that that wouldn't do any good to begin with....The ball is way too small for that to do any good...Confusednicker:

Exactly!

Not one of us has "Hated" one the kid.
Not one of us has "Hated" on the school.
Not one of us has "Hated" if it was legal.
Not one of us has "Hated" on the coach.

I have had many people outside of BGR ask me about the difference and why they got to kick it the way they did. People that don't know the rules of the game. Who did however notice the differences in the kicks. All we are doing is discussing those differences.

And Diogenes. There is a difference between High School and College/Pro. In College/Pro, the kicker has to use a holder without the aid of a Tee.

I am also done with this. Too many people just want to take things the wrong way and attack people for no real reason.

Again...BIG CONGRATS to Mr. Pack on an OUTSTANDING Record! The sky's the limit buddy!

Someone quote me as to when i said the kid didnt work hard. When i said the kid didnt deserve a state record. When did i even say the points shouldnt matte or count? Show me that quote and u have a point. Its just a discussion. I am fine with u arguing r fact, but all u have done is try to argue with me.

There different, no doubt about that.

OffTheHook Wrote:And Diogenes. There is a difference between High School and College/Pro. In College/Pro, the kicker has to use a holder without the aid of a Tee.

As I recall and as I interpret the available informaton...All place kicks in college and the NFL (except for kickoffs, which can't be field goals obviously) are made without the tee from the ground, just as in high school all the tries can be made with a tee (whether that tee is a kickoff tee or the standard rubber block, it still elevates the ball off the ground 1-2 inches, just the kickoff tee doesn't require someone sitting there to hold on a finger on the football). Either way, the kick occurs with or without a tee as it normally would at that level, and there's still no rush involved either way, but yet it remains as a valid way to score a field goal at all levels.

ust because you do not use the words does not change the tone and perception you are projecting. To belittle “yes belittle is what I feel you did” by challenge the volatility of the a 15 year old accomplishment is unacceptable. You have stated that you did not intent to or want to belittle or disrespect the young man. I will take you at your word that this was not your intent. However when people like OffTheHook jumps in and wants to put an Asterisk by the kick in the KHSAA Record Book makes your post negative and should not have been started in the first place.

Show me a place where an Asterick is use in a positive way.

Take it up with off the hook. My soul intent was to get peoples opinion on the free kick vs place kick and how they felt about the record. I got just that. Then it turned into "belittling" and "disputing a kids work ethic" i refuse to do this any more.
#45
After reading up on this fair catch kick I too have to agree that it is different than a normal field goal try. The rules say they are worth the same amount of points but the fact is the matter in how you get those points is done in a different way. One has no rush toward the kicker and the other has the rush. That being said no matter what, this kid has talent. Like most posters have already said it takes talent just to kick it that far and be accurate. Congrats to the young man and best of luck the rest of the season.
#46
Nice topic for discussion! Not argument! I think that if a kid can kick that far than good for him.
#47
The kid is a damn good kicker and has a great leg. Also is very young and what I hear is a great kid!!! That is not point that was trying to be made here..
#48
1st i would like to say it is very impressive for young Pack , & congrats . 2nd i am in no way a Raceland fan as i am from Fairview , but i have to admit Pettrey's 58yrd conventional kick is far more impressive than this free kick . I do feel this rule should be changed . Either way the record is now Pack's under the current rule so congrats , & im sure before he graduates he will have hit at least one 60yrd in a conventional way

Don't forget.... Tyler Pack tied the 58 yd. field goal record earlier in the year. As a matter of fact, I was standing at the down marker when he kicked it. The ball sounded like it was gonna explode. Heck, I thought our cannon was fired.

The point the thread was never to discuss the KID. In no way shape or form did I ever mention him negatvely. Other than the fact that his kick and petterys kick sparked a thought in my head, that they r totally different types of kicks and I felt they should be in different categories. Somehow it got twisted to sound like I was negating what the kid had done. Tyler Pack is a great kicker and i wish nothing but the best for him. I hope he kicks a 99 yd free kick or traditional field goal. I simply was stating what i thought and Never dreamed my integrity and class would have been put on trial over this thread. That was not my itent and I appologize.

I'd like to hit a decent wedge shot on the golf course 60 yds.

Yes i know , & i find Pack's 58 yrd conventional kick more impressive than his 60yrd free kick . I meant to add that in , but i just plain forgot to add it in . I was thinking it , i just overlooked typing it lol

I dont think it matters.
IMHO, he'll break the 60 yard record with a conventional field goal before his time is done and this argument will seem pointless.

Oh My GOD. Are you serious? All this talk because I said asterisk in another thread? Are you freaking kidding me? I have been a poster on here for over 7 years and well over 10, 000 post and NOT one single post has ever put down a kid or NEVER will be. If you would have read it. You would have seen that I even explained it. Why in the world would I belittle that kid or any kid on here? How can you belittle some, when all you have done is praise them in almost every post.

LOL....I really am LOLing. *Belittle....LOL

*To describe (someone or something) as little or unimportant. NEVER HAPPENED
There that * was used in a positive way. It showed you what the word belittle meant.

Asterisk - a symbol * that is used in printed text especially to tell someone to read a note that can be found at the bottom of a page.
Nothing negative in that definition.

LOL...ALL this because of an "opinion" of what you thought something meant.
LOL...I'm me and never gonna change. Like my opinions or not. Just don't accuse me of putting down kids on here. It just don't happen.

LOL...Belittle...Smile
