2. Alot of that State Champion Corbin team is now at Wburg. That tends to breed some bad blood.
Are all of the kids who transferred going to be eligible to play this season?

Williamsburg never got one football player from Corbin, they did get some of the finest, best mannered, good academic students, that any school would want, and academics was the reason they came, it was after they had been here for a while that they decided to play football and the students and the town is so very proud of them they fit with the kids at Wburg like a glove and it appears they will contribute. I say again not one child was on the Corbin football team when they came here.

Playfast Wrote:This is not true! They simply did not have corresponding dates.
footballfever Wrote:Believe you got your teams confussed! Talked to Coach Herron and Somerset had week 10, Wburg already had a game week 10 so Coach Herron said "we have a game week 10". Now, Alcoa Tn did call and offer to come to Wburg and play week 2 and Coach Herron said "no thanks".
I wonder if Mcreary has any open dates?
Cellking Wrote:Somerset offered W'burg said No Thanks.
As of right now both teams still have week 6 open (according to the KHSAA scoreboard). I know that Somerset wants a 10th game after getting turned down by Madison Southern and Leslie County for a week 10 game. I understand why Leslie doesn't want to play, they could have to turn around and play the Jumpers the very next week). They would be happy to play Williamsburg at Williamsburg in week 6. From what I understand Williamsburg wants no part of that. Why not? I know that it is the week before the district but it would help both teams. Somerset would get to see a legit quarterback and a passing offense while Williamsburg would get to see a team with comparable speed to what they will see as they advance in the playoffs. Why doesn't Williamsburg want to play?

So Cellking Somerset did drop Whitley County for the opportunity to play Williamsburg. You denied this a couple of months ago when asked about it but you have come back to Somerset offering and Williamsburg declining which was addressed previously in this thread.

I agree that Williamsburg and Somerset playing would help both teams in preparing for the playoffs. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Outsider you need to worry about Corbin's schedule. Outside of Knox Central and their district they have teams who's glory days are gone. Corbin has progressively weakened their schedule other the last 15 years. Somerset is a take on all comers. The type of team Corbin has dodged in this century.

1st I know both coaches wanted week 6 open before district play. As for Wburg when week 4 wasn't able to fill decisions had to be made. Wburg is already playing 3 5A schools and maybe the best 3A school in the state. Somerset has a very good physical football team that I believe Wburg would play close to or possible even beat but Wburg felt it wasn't in the best interest of his team to take on another big challenge.

Which 3 5A teams is Williamsburg playing? I know they play North Laurel, not sure who else. Wayne may be a top 5 3A team, certainly not the best though.

Not playing Somerset must be a touchy subject, but if I would want to play if I'm either coach to expose any weaknesses before the playoffs.
I'm certain that there has not been a year this century when Williamsburg played a tougher schedule than Corbin.
As far as Corbin's schedule, I would replace a couple of teams on it.
Trimble - no reason to play them
South Laurel - they are Corbin's biggest rival as far as all sports
Perry Central - not sure who made the call on the Pigskin game.
Danville - their glory days are not gone, will be very good real soon.
Southwestern - bowl game, didn't get to pick which team they played.
Knox Central -

I know that Somerset would rather have 10 games than have the week before the district open. If Williamsburg will play I can guarantee you Somerset will. I understand Williamsburg would like to have that week open as well. But really, how much are the Yellow Jackets worried about Campbellsville, Lynn Camp, Berea and Pineville this season? All of those games will be running clock games or close to it. I just think the game makes a lot of sense for both teams. The style of play that each would see in the other team would be a big help for the playoffs.

Time will tell on Wayne but they lost to state champ Central by 3 in playoffs and if you check Wayne returns more that anyone in 3A.
Knoxville Halls is a 5A school and I was wrong Harrison Co. is 4A.
I do think the Somerset match=up would be a good one but a coach has to do what he thinks is best for HIS team.

W'burg will not face a challenge for 6-7 games in a row at the end of the regular season plus the first round or two of the playoffs. Only time will tell if it hurts them or not.

Williamsburg should win the region this year. They controlled the game with Hazard last year and kept shooting themselves in the foot when they got in or around the red zone. The semifinals should be winnable as well, especially if they get it at home.

They could prove it if they wanted to play. 20 points? That makes me wonder what is in those cigarettes. You haven't been able to beat Hazard who Somerset has handled each of the last 2 seasons.

Walt, I see you have met 64. Don't get too worked up. This old geezer is this way all season. He is really just head over hills blindly in love with his adopted team, Williamsburg. He will be for another year or so, until they loose this talented junior class. He has served more of us than any career long deputy sheriff. The local sheriff's office needs to hire him, he can serve they he-- out of people.

Whitley had their chance , but declined. Maybe Whitley and W'burg will resume playing each other.

Actually Pigskin offered Whitley to come play Corbin 1 year then someone else next year. Whitley agreed IF Corbin would sign a 2 year contract the following 2 years and Whitley would again come to Corbin and play and Corbin would return the game at Whitley the following year
SO, in a 4 year period Whitley would play Corbin at Corbin 2 times, play someone else at Corbin 1 time if Corbin would come down and play Whitley at Whitley 1 time. Coach Jewell said no.
Anyone from this area Whitley fan, Corbin fan just a fan would love to see this game but Corbin is the hold up.

3 gates for one. Sounds like Whitley made a fair offer. Maybe Corbin doesn't really want to play.

Read fevers post. Thats spot on to what happened.
Ole Jewell wanted nothing to do with the County.

Fever speaks the truth....in fact the Varsity club tried desperately to get Jewell to play to the point of not having the Pigskin. He said he no time to deal with schedules two years in advance. Ask old Bubba...if you are from Corbin you surely know him and he will tell you the same story, because he was the one speaking with Coach Black!!!

You have phones in Williamsburg don't you? Somerset has already offered to come to Williamsburg to play. Herron needs that week off to get ready for that murder's row of Berea, Campbellsville, Pineville and Lynn Camp. It's a shame because the kids would get to play 10 games and it would be a great matchup. Oh well, both teams have more important things to focus on. Good luck this season.
