At least Somerset has been to the big game before.
This coming from the most hypicritical one. Second place is the first loser.
Are you still sure Whitley was the team that trashed Pulaski's locker room, or have you finally believed the rest of the fans on here that it was a completely different team?
As for classy, you constantly troll other teams more than maybe any other member on this site. You never have one positive thing to say about another team. If a team is doing well, or expected to, you just dont comment.
Ive rarely even seen you talk about the other schools in your county well. You even give SW and PC a difficult time.
Somerset has some good fans on the site. Take Roshambo for example. Consistently post truths and rarely trolls on other teams. Class act all the way around.
Its becoming a hard thing to find.

JumperPride1 Wrote:I guess I can't argue the Whitley co. Games over the past two years although I believe officiating in year one and extreme weather conditions in year two affected the outcome. As far as Pulaski being better than Somerset this year you are sadly mistaken. The jumpers senior class is loaded with talent, most have been starting for 3 years on teams that have advanced deep into the playoffs. RIUTG you are an enigma, I can't stand you in some posts and in others you are neutral to the point of legitimacy. We will indeed relive this argument on August 23rd I guess, but in the mean time can you tell us what statistical evidence you have to back up this claim? It's been a long time since the maroons have bested the jumpers on the gridiron, and they certainly don't do it with any type of consistency when It does happen. This argument is held every year and it see a like somerset just goes out and does what they do... Win ball games.
It doesnt change the fact that i got harrassed when i said Whitley was a better team, and two years in a role, they were. Better teams get the win.
I guess the PC/Somerset debate will get settled quickly. I could be completely wrong. After all, you all live there and watch the teams. You should know more about that game. But im sticking with my gut. PC will win that game.
I do what i can. I dont care to express my opinions. After all, it is a discussion forum. My post wasn't directed at you as it was some other posters. Its just well documented throughout this site that Somerset has a couple of posters that like to do nothing more than put other teams down. Its very simple to see with a search engine. Im not sure that Norm has ever said anything good about another team. Bildos isnt to far off from that either.
And lastly, it happened twice in the past two years that many somerset fans thought they would go out and "win" and afterwords it was like birds chirping. The first year, it was non stop crying about the refs when your players were taking cheap shots at Bryants knees all night after the whistle blew. Theres no sense in denying it. Everybody there seen that. The dirtiest game ive ever witnessed where the soul purpose was to try and hurt Whitleys only weapon on offense. Maybe had they took the time to put a game plan together, and not focused on cheap shots, it could have been a little different.
As for the second year, weather is a part of the game. It was at Somerset and theres no excuses. We move on.
The only reason its hypocritical is because for the past two years ive ranked Whitley ahead of Somerset in a mountain top ten in the preseason and in both years Somerset fans called me crazy, and in both years Whitley won.
PC will win on August 23rd. If not ill eat my crow. But if they do win, i expect the same and not birds chirping.

RIUTG I jus don't see Shs losin to Pulaski. The talent returning for Somerset is outstanding. Since Whitley and Somerset don't play for the next two years we can let that subject die, but on the P.C. front it's a different story. Even with Belfry on the schedule Somerse will not play a team with better offensive talent and balance than they have the potential to possess. Defensively the jumpers lost slaughter, smith, megargel and Williams but return a great nucleus... I believe Pulaski lost a lot more with the graduation of goins. Goins outplayed Damien Harris head to head, and I'll stick to my guns on that one, he was absolutely outstanding for them all year. Between will Lange, cam Chevy, Jordan Doan and castle hatcher I like the Somerset speed over Pulaski county any day of the week... If I'm wrong the great thin is it really doesn't matter, because playing the county schools isn't a Super Bowl for Somerset, it's jus another game (that they've won about 85% historically).

Make no mistake, I give Somerset all the praise in the world. I just didnt like the hypocritical statements earlier in the thread.
I cant understand how they havent won state. The past two years Ive watched this Somerset team grow, and grow they have. We also played PC in the playoffs. And, to be honest, there is no way Whitley should have lost that game, but they did. If theres one thing ive enjoyed over the past several years, its watching PC and Whitley meet up in the playoffs. I think its happened 3 or 4 times since the moving to 6 classes format, and even more interesting is the fact that we also got SW a few times as well.
Somerset has the better team. However, IMHO, FWIW, cooler heads must prevail. Somesert should have beaten Whitley the last two years. This past 3 or 4 years has been some of the worst Whitley years, along with the mid 2000's ive ever seen. Mainly due to the fact that Whitley had no depth. They were using the same amount of player Somerset was, and Somerset was a much more experienced team, but every time i watched Somerset give up an easy TD or big play, instead of focusing and striking back, they got furious, and there play hurt because of it.
If Somerset can stay focused on the task at hand, keep cool heads, and let the experience factor in, they'll claim another district and region title. And believe you me, if it comes down to Somerset and NCC, I will be all for the Briar Jumpers.
The first game of the year comes with difficulties you wont experience the rest of the year. The first qtr of the first games of the year are usually hard to watch, no matter what team you are, unless your so much of a favorite it just comes easy.
With that being said, this is a cross town rival game in the first game of the year. It is, however at Somerset. The slightest rain fall, which is likely from the looks of this year, gives a big advantage to PC.
The game will be close, but im sticking with my gut and guessing PC pulls off the win.

Harlan County, Belfry, and Johnson Central seem to be the consensus top three among posters.
After that there is a wide variety of different top 10's.
Other teams popping up after those top three seem to be Somerset, Whitley, Williamsburg, Bell County, Pulaski, Hazard, and some others who have several votes.
Lets try and break down those teams from 4-10.
Personally, I think Wburg and Hazard are very good teams. Very good 1A teams. To be honest, i think they could give some of these other teams in the top 10 a heck of a game, but if they were to have a schedule consisting of the top ten teams in the mountains, I think there lack of depth and lack of numbers would set them with the worst records out of the bunch.
If we look at this like a league, it starts to make sense. Like in any league, upsets can and do happen. Even the Ravens lose to the Bungles once in a blue moon....
So, if we look at it like that, we can go a little more in depth.
Ill start with my top ten i had posted.
1. Harlan County
2. Belfry
3. Johnson Central
4. Knox Central
5. Whitley County
6. Bell County
7. Pulaski County
8. Somerset
9. Williamsburg
10.Hazard
If these 10 teams played each other, for a total of nine games in a sort of round robin type style, then it starts to make sense.
Harlan County, IMO, would be 8-1 at worst. It could possibly be a 9-0 type season because i dont see any team on that list who would be a facvorite over them. They could get an upset loss, but it doesnt deter the fact that they would still be the best team.
Then Belfry. Belfry should go 7-2 or somewhere in that area against these other teams. I think them along with Johnson Central could be in a crazy tie and only the game between them could decide who would be ranked ahead of one another.
I look at this the same way with the next few teams in Whitley, Bell and Knox.
The best part is, these three teams really do play each other. I wouldnt be surprised if each team goes 1-1 against the other two. Knox, IMO should be considered the favorite among the three, with Bell, who will struggle this year compared to the past and Whitley who could go from really good to really bad, but i see these three teams on the same level with Pulaski and Somerset not to far behind. I find that Somerset and Pulaski are going to be very even. As noted earlier, i could be wrong, but i think the two will have a very close game come the first game of the year. That leaves us with Wburg and Hazard who, if they played the other teams on this list would probably pick up an upset or two, but overall find themselves at the bottom of the list. And to me, thats not a bad thing. There 1A schools and being considered in a list of top ten teams where severla 3, 4, and 5A schools are also eligible.

NCC is a tough nut to crack. I would say they play the toughest schedule for a 2A school in the state. They lost a lot from graduation and with a new coach it could go either way. Always seems like they find kids to fill the voids. New coach has been on staff for a few years. Could be under .500 going into the playoffs and go on a run.

I can't speak for LeeCoUKFan but when I ranked my Top 10 I did it more by how I feel the season will play out rather than who would actually beat who. Whitley County has a tough schedule and I think they will take more losses than some of the teams that I ranked ahead of them. That doesn't mean that I don't think that they could beat some of the 1A or 2A teams that I have ranked above them. If I went strictly off of who I thought would beat who it would be a boring Top 10 with almost all 5A and 4A teams. WYMT seems to rank by record as well so that's what I went with.

WYMT does go by record, thats why nobody takes it seriously whatsoever.
If going by record, your probably correct. Going by who would beat who, its a whole other story.

Agreed on the who would beat who part. Like I said the main reason I rated it the way I did is because that gives the little schools a chance to be in there too. I guess you could say I rated by perceived success in each team's given class.

You guys that have Bell in the top 5 need to do some checking. I thought most of you knew some football. I will say this. If they are top 5 in the mountains then the mountaiuns will be weak as water. You rate them on past years...Dudley is gone. You rate the rest on up comming team they have???????????? Lucky to be #10.
Most are doing the same with Hazard. Lost too much, not in top 10.

Belfry should be very good on offense if the line play is good. Defensively they could really struggle though. JC returns their entire backfield and the game was a very close matchup last season.
With green (and perhaps less talented) lb'ers, Belfry may struggle to tackle the JC backs.

Because their skilled positions are very good. Much better than Belfry's, in my opinion. Especially since they were able to add Bryce Workman to the fold. Both JC and Belfry have some questions up front heading into the season. Just feel JC has a stronger set of skilled players.
