I watched Bell's JV last year. They could beat some varsity teams I saw.

Glad to see Belfry with Somerset, Johnson Central, and Harlan County on the schedule as well as two tough out of state teams. Christian Academy of Knoxville were 14-1 state champs with a win over Alcoa in the title game last year.

I would have to agree the panthers have prob the 2nd or 3rd hardest schedule this year, with Harlan co with the hardest then it's real close with belfry for second.. This schedule should really get KC ready for the playoffs this year.

Solid schedule... the District slate certainly helps it out immensely with a good Whitley County and Russell County. Still think you have to put it ever so slightly behind Belfry's.

When comparing to Belfry:
-Southwestern and Harlan County are washes as both teams play them.

-Atherton is not very good whatsoever. Worst team on either schedule. They are comparable to Sheldon Clark on Belfry's although SC is a good bit better.

- Clay County is comparable to Pike Central. Call it a wash.

-Prestonsburg and Pikeville are very similar teams and a wash.

- Rockcastle County is comparable to Lawrence County. Call it a wash.

- Normally Bell County would be the headliner but they will be down a little it appears...we will call Johnson Central and Bell a wash.

- Somerset and Whitley County proved to be a wash last year and both have very experienced teams returning.

- Gallia Academy and Corbin you have to give the edge to Gallia Academy..though Corbin is starting to build their program back to where it needs to be.

- So this leaves Russell County and Knoxville Christian. This one really isn't close and where the main difference lies. Russell County is a good team, but Knox. Christian would be one of the Top 10 overall teams in the State of KY.

Another thing, by the end of last year Middlesboro, Prestonsburg and Hazard absolutely could not tackle anyone............

Prestonsburg was doing a lot better on defense the last few games of the year. I will agreee they could not tackle my grandmother the first 3/4 of the season.

I watched the Prestonsburg-Middlesboro game and the tackling was nonexistent on both sides. But my point is IMO Pikeville and Prestonsburg will both be better by the time the playoffs roll around so their game to start the season won't be a real good indicator of how far they can go in the playoffs.

Ive been impressed with the tough scheduling Whitley has done, but to be quite honest, they havent had the teams to compete with the schedules they hav produced.
Dont get me wrong, im not a fan of a cup cake schedule. No matter if one thinks it helps or hurts, I just dont like seeing a team play bad teams every week and getting big time wins. When playing a difficult schedule, you truly see how good your team really is. Even with a couple of bad losses on the year, it tells you where you need to go and what you need to do to compete. It can evolve a coaches thinking and ways he goes about coaching his team and what style of play he likes to use.
Theyve had two year contracts with Lex Cath, Belfry, Boyle, Russell County (in there best years ever) etc, and ive enjoyed watching good teams play, even if it meant a loss for Whitley. And those games were just over the past 4 or 5 years.

Ive said since the end of last year that this team has potential, but this schedule could be a major buzz kill. Whitley could easily start out 0-3. Morristown West, Madison Southern (with the QB eligible) and Bell County could be a bad way to start a year. BUT, on the other hand, Morristown West will be a good measuring stick to see where were at early. If Whitley doesnt even put up a fight, forget a good year and a challenge to Harlan County. However, if they play well against MW, I think they could start earning a lot of respect.
The Madison Southern and Bell County games are definitely winnable. Madison Southern, without that QB would be all about stopping Harris IMO, and if Whitley gets the defensive kinks worked out, which they didnt do last year, then that game could be a win, and as ive said before Bell County is not going to be the same Bell County this year. That will be a lot of new faces, and it is at home.

After that they will take on Clay and Knox, and Clay will be better. Average team, but always play Whitley tough. Knox just keeps on getting better and that program has got better. First time since the 03 and 04 seasons that these two have played, and if im not mistaken, Whitley outscored them 86-6 in those two years. That will NOT be the case this time, and there a great opponent that i hope continues to stay on the schedule. Its also at Knox.

Then you have the district slate followed by Boyle County on the road which is never easy, no matter who you are.
I would think anything better than 6-4 would have to be considered a good year. Im expecting around 6-4, but if Whitley was to real off 7 or 8 wins that means they have some real qulaity wins.

-Perry Central lost a lot, several question marks for the Commodores on this upcoming season. They have alot of shoes to fill from all those play makers they lost.

-I really like what Prestonsburg returns. I look for them to make some noise this year after a sort of disappointment last year.

-It is weird not mentioning Breathitt in a mountain top 10 but with Halcomb gone, I dont think they'll be the Breathitt we have grown to know over the last 20 years.

There are several good teams in the Knoxville, TN area. There is a Christian Academy of Knoxville which is a 3A school and won the state title last year. There is also a Knoxville Christian, which used to be Grace Christian they are 2A they made the play offs but got beat in the 2nd round.

I guess I can't argue the Whitley co. Games over the past two years although I believe officiating in year one and extreme weather conditions in year two affected the outcome. As far as Pulaski being better than Somerset this year you are sadly mistaken. The jumpers senior class is loaded with talent, most have been starting for 3 years on teams that have advanced deep into the playoffs. RIUTG you are an enigma, I can't stand you in some posts and in others you are neutral to the point of legitimacy. We will indeed relive this argument on August 23rd I guess, but in the mean time can you tell us what statistical evidence you have to back up this claim? It's been a long time since the maroons have bested the jumpers on the gridiron, and they certainly don't do it with any type of consistency when It does happen. This argument is held every year and it see a like somerset just goes out and does what they do... Win ball games.
