Madison Central 65 - Ballard 64
#67
Congrats to Madison Central on a great tournament! Beat Top 2 teams in the state and a top 10!! What is so impressive about Hawkins is his toughness. He is great rebounder for a 6'2" guard. He was absolutley gased at the end of the championship game!!!

I was seating about 12 rows back for this game!!!

Another thing that impressed me about Madison Central was there Free Throw Shooting!
I think they only missed 2 the entire game!!!

I am friends with a woman whose son played recently at Madison Central and who is very good friends with the parents of the players including Bosley and Hawkins. She came to work the other day after the first round of the tournament with no voice and hasn't missed a game. She's told me before that Cal came to the table VERY late on Hawkins and that Bosley really hasn't been recruited by any majors as well until recently. She said that now the boy Hawkins is well known that his mother said that the recruiters from all over are driving her crazy. The phone won't quit ringing. She said that all of the parents are saying the recruiters are going nuts wondering how this entire team could go through the cracks on the recruiting scene minus Hawkins who was hearing from Rick Pitino before the notariety for quite a while. Note what I said about Cal. Her thought on it is this.....why play for Cal and sit the bench for a bunch of out of state Prima Donnas to play when you can go to Louisville and get playing time immediately? I had to think about that myself and I'm no Louisville fan. Would these boys actually play if they went to Kentucky before their senior year over McDonald's All Americans? You have to think about what is in the best interest of the boys as this woman has. I hate to say it, but, I wonder if they wouldn't be better off elsewhere other than at Kentucky riding the pine. This is my biggest gripe about Kentucky anymore. You've got hardnosed local kids who play their guts out like the Polson boy from West Jess. does and he gets minimal playing time. The kids proud of playing for Kentucky and got extended time in the Florida game only because the McD All Americans were in foul trouble and when given the chance he showed up big. But, he still rides the pine to much in my opinion.

By the way....A BIG CONGRATS TO THE RICHMOND BOYS FROM CENTRAL!! I love a local school winning the state tourney.

But what if you come to Kentucky and beat out the Mcdonalds All-Americans for playing time! No one is garunteed any playing time. When Coach Cal recruits them! I think Kentucky seriously needs this kids heart, motor, and tuffness!!!

C'mon D-Hawk come to lexington next year! WE NEED YOU!!!!

jetpilot Wrote:Poppycock. You can argue that the Sweet 16 format shouldn't be changed, but to say class doesn't matter is just way off base. The Top Class A or AA team will beat the top Class 5 or 6A teams once in a great while. That Paintsville team was a once in a lifetime team with the players assembled. When was the last time a Class A school won it all before Paintsville? And none since and that was 17 years ago. Basketball is no different than any other sport. The big schools have a HUUUUGE advantage.

If you are worried about the size of the school then move. Life isn't fair. If some "3A" school had 4 guys 6'7 or taller would you want a class for teams with no one above 6'3 so they "have a chance?" Give me a break.

And to the poster who said Hawkins could go play at Louisville:
A. They offered him as a walk-on which he has stated he will not do
B. they have good guards now and good guards coming in.

I'm no Louisville fan but the chance of him playing big minutes next year at UL is the same as it is at UK. And what is best for each person is subjective. Polson could have gone to Liberty and played. It meant more to him to wear Kentucky across his chest even if it didn't equate to as much playing time. Some kids are like that. I, for one, love those kids.

Like I said small schools win every now and then but if I take Ballard every year and you take Shelby Valley it won't be very long at all until I own all your stuff.

Look at polson now he has had a great year for us. And he might not play a minute the rest of his career but he is living the dream of alot of kentucky boys right now.

Someone needs to brush up on their reading comprehension skills. I never complained or even said the Sweet 16 should be changed, I merely pointed out that the big schools have a big advantage over small schools and a big school will win the Sweet 16 most years.

I don't think you would get much disagreement there. Even if you didn't say it, many who want the tournament changed want it because of "unfair advantage." Alas, that is life for many of us.
