Williamsburg 2013
#31
E's Army Wrote:Cellking did Somerset drop Whitley so they could play 1A schools?

I think everyone reads to much into scheduling. The game was week 6 and both coaches wanted that week open before district play started. I just dont think any other date worked out.
#32
I have heard the Jackets will be playing Knoxville Halls in week 0, one of the laurel county schools in week 1, and Wayne County in week 3. I think all of the other weeks are open at this point. I agree that people look to much into schedules. Most people schedule people year after year. The problem for Williamsburg is it is very difficult to find games with teams that already have a great deal of their games scheduled. I think Williamsburg would love to get Corbin on the schedule every year just because it is such a big money game for the school. I do not see that happening though.

If true, Wayne County is a good pickup for Wburg.
Dont know anything about the Knoxville team though.

footballfever Wrote:Believe you got your teams confussed! Talked to Coach Herron and Somerset had week 10, Wburg already had a game week 10 so Coach Herron said "we have a game week 10". Now, Alcoa Tn did call and offer to come to Wburg and play week 2 and Coach Herron said "no thanks".
I wonder if Mcreary has any open dates?

Maybe Alcoa could come up to the next exit and play Whitley.
I would be fine with that. Talk about a good pickup for Whitley.

I dont blame Herron for turning that game down. That just isnt realistic.

I wonder who else Whitley might pick up. They have 3 or 4 openings, althought ive heard two of them are all but a done deal.

Much like Raceland, I look for Wbug to be much more cut throat and experienced next year. Both squads have had many chances to get that signature win, but have failed to make it over the hump. i think both teams make it over this year and quite possibly see eachother in the Semis. That would be an incredibly exciting and interesting match up. Hope it comes true.
#37
Raceland/Williamsburg would be a rematch of the 8th grade state championship two years ago. Pikeville, Fairview and Hazard must be conquered before this match up.
#38
I foresee Pikeville and Hazard being a much tougher out next year than Fairview. Though Fairview returns all but the three headed monster on offense and i believe 2 lineman, they will still be competitive. But they wont have the luxury of not needing a passing game. Soph running back Tanner Dolen will be their biggest weapon. Pikeville should have tallent all over the field as well, Hazard needs to get some sort of speed if they want any chance of beating Williamsburg, Pikeville, or Raceland. Defense wast what lost the game against Fairview. The score board was a bit missleading. Most of Fairviews pts came in the first quarter. After that it was simply the inability to get anything going offensively, that was the difference. I think the wuarter finals will be:

Raceland vs Pikeville
Williamsburg vs Hazard
Still way to far away to decifer nething further than that.fairview will be in the mix as well, but i think the rest of regions 1 and 2 arent nearly as solid as these 5 teams.

Don Marshall Bowl is week 6? Could you post rest of Somerset schedule on new thread?

Wburg will be a tough team, the only concern is the offensive and defensive line. Regardless of the athletic ability of the team, if the boys up front do not have experience or strength then it will be a different team. Not saying that's the case here, all I'm saying is losing lineman can be tough for any team. They are hard to replace. Great looking team for 2013, if I lived in the community I'd be very excited for this upcoming season

Shame that the Oneida series is ending. Don't know why those two schools don't play in every sport. Similar enrollments, programs, etc and it's a 45 minute drive. Oneida, Harlan, and Pineville for competitive and traditional reasons should always be on the schedule. As for the other three slots on the non-district schedule, I'd love to see those upgraded.
#43
From what I've heard, Somerset's schedule is the same except switch Whitley with bourbon county and the Jessamine Visnitch bowl with the Don Marshall bowl. Furthest thing from scheduling more 1a teams. Personally, I think those are both upgrades.

Didn't they also trade Perry County Central for Letcher County Central and Breathitt County for Belfry in the Pike County Bowl?

This is not true! They simply did not have corresponding dates.

Might be time to take you head of the dumpster....Whitley won both games in the two year series......I guess you would define an upgrade as a game you might win? ZERO creditablity with a statement like that.....:lame::lame:

This team seems to have all the keys to win. Young team with tons of talent. I can't wait to see them play!!!!!!! Watch out for this team, corbin, and middlesboro.

Didnt Knoxville Halls only win 1 game last year. If Williamsburg has as good a team as some say, then why are they not playing someone good.
